There is murder, investigations, the whole disturbing feeling, but meanwhile Kanako bets in a more physical form of violence, Traces of a Sin is something more psychological, there are some other similarities as well.

Both productions were directed by the same person, and also feature Tsumabuki Satoshi as a ML whose friend/relative is in prison for killing a person. Both have a similarly bleak vibe

They both share the psychological and abuse tags and are very dark on those themes, Silenced seems a bit darker since we are dealing with children abuse, Traces of Sin has child abuse as well, even if it is not as explicit, however there is abuse towards the intellectually impaired. Definitely worth the watch for those that enjoyed Silenced.

The male leads are very similar, they both are poor, they r nice but have dark personality , can flip anytime, they both handle things silently n smartly . The female lead in both the movies are crazy too.
What makes both the movies most similar is the direction, they r both slow paced, heavy n dark, the economic n social differences r very well portrayed, with a deep meaning n what they can result into, ambience n interaction with people to solve the things.

Both films are based on Japanese novels and feature journalists trying to re-investigate an old case; both movies have a hidden layer beneath the surface
