A Round Trip to Love (2016)

This movie is pretty basic BL nothing special. The main leads are very good-looking and the acting is okay but my major problem is the plot. It's pretty choppy and moves way to fast. I am like barely into the movie before they are already kissing and are in love. It's like you literally blink and it happens so sudden. I wish things would have slowed down some. I didn't have a chance to get an attachment to the characters so when anything bad happened to them I didn't care. There are some cute moments like a ton. If you're the type of person who just wants to see hot guys together doing cute stuff and don't want to be boggled down by a plot then this is for you but as for me this isn't my cup of tea. I enjoyed the cute moments and will probably watch a video with these moments complied together but I won't sit through this movie again.

It's super duper average and cliche it gets a 5.5 for me.

There were so many reasons why I thought I wouldn't like it. The description is not that great, and I'm not into movies. I had also only tried watching one Chinese film before, and I really didn't like it.

However, I am so glad I gave this a chance. It was easily one of the most romantic pieces of film I've seen. You can really tell the characters care about each other. The actors have a passion in their eyes, making me truly believe in their emotions. It's been so long since I've seen acting this good. The romance made me squirm inside, and I had to keep pausing because my heart was beating so quickly. I truly adored them!

I admit, the plot is not new. There are some cliches. I usually do not like such things, but they managed to pull it off well nevertheless. It also drove me crazy how the characters would get into these little fights, when all they had to do was talk it out. Despite this, I was able to melt into the joy of their reunions, and that made it worth it.

I'd highly recommend this for the romance chasers who enjoy a little bit of angst on the side, but not for those were are looking for a super-dramatic plot.

You probably won't read this review because of my low rating of a BL drama. But I really want to say somethings, so let's go...


I had so much expectations about how would be this movie when I read the synopis. I really don't like the chemistry of the couple, it's so confused and weird what they feel for each other. The same way of the couple, the conflicts are so messy that I think they producers put literally anything just to cause problems with the couple because it doesn't make sense some dialogues with the characters, some scenes are very exaggerated too. It made me so angry with the attitude of the characters sometimes.
This was a bad cliche for me, there are stories with good cliche because the feelings of someone that you love are understandable and respectable, but it isn't what A Round Trip to Love shows. Anyway, I just wanted to share my opinion as BL lover (or fujoshi maybe xP).

This BL drama just didn’t do it for me. I thought the story itself could have been great, but the way it was executed, it wasn’t. It seemed kind of choppy and all over the place. The acting was fair, and yes the 2 main leads are awesome looking, but that didn’t help the story. A good plot but poorly written. They fell in love when they were young, and were torn apart because of society and family. Met later in life, and the love was re-ignited. Ending was left hanging, now I’m on to part 2. Hopefully it will tie up loose ends left by part 1. I’ll review that after I watch it. Im hopeful...

When I first saw this movie, I did not know anything about. After it was done, I loved it ! The acting of the actors was great, they had an awesome chemistry. I seriously only made this account to give a review about this movie. I have rewatched this movie so many times because it’s captivating, you won’t get bored watching it. The plot line is a bit typical but Xiao does a great job portraying the emotions someone must feel facing homophobia. The story is carry too fast though, it should’ve been slowed . If you want to see fluff with a bit of angst see this movie, the sequel is something completely different from this one, it went to whole other direction I did not see coming. The soundtrack is amazing, it is one of the reason why i loved this movie.

The toxic ML destroys an otherwise emotional movie

I wish we could have gotten to see the growth of true Chinese BL screen adaptations so that this isn't the legacy they are left with. Look, even with the poor image quality of the version I found, you could tell these actors were doing a great job portraying their characters. You could hear everything in their voices. Glee. Reservation. Relief. And you can definitely feel bad for the plight they are in, but it's way too fast-paced to really connect with the characters and feel impacted by the story (without the associations and emotions lingering from other productions with similar plots that is, or without the personal experiences being attached to their plight). The pace very much feels like it belongs to a collection of short films, rather than one full-length one, or characteristic of multiple unannounced time skips.

Furthermore, it's just really really hard to root for Lu Feng. Their relationship is so incredibly toxic and harmful. He's headstrong, aggressive, authoritative, and immature. And grand gestures simply can't fix everything. And you'd think that, considering they know the plight they are in, that they would be more careful about their actions in public.

I absolutely adored the music though. And there were some really memorable scenes. Such as the custom couple rings done at the beginning of the movie - that I really wish we see more of in other productions. The surprisingly good amount of communication (not enough to even begin to contradict all that's wrong in their relationship, but it is there). And there were a couple of scenes that remind of my much beloved scenes from Skam and Semantic Error.

Honestly, it could have been a great movie (sequel events aside), if only Lu Feng wasn't so incredibly toxic. But alas, I do understand that it's probably MEANT to be toxic (from what I know about the sequel). I don't think we're supposed to think it's romantic.
