A Bittersweet Life (2005)

Both are about men who turn into "monsters" trying to seek revenge.

An unexpected new relationship lead the main characters to rethink their values and life choices. A Bittersweet Life has more action scenes while Breathless is more raw.

Gangs, underworld, crime, some romance and a cool main hero doing action stuff.

The settings are similar and they touch upon some similar themes, and funnily enough i would say they're somewhat equally masculine movies. They are stylistically and visually similar too and both have exceptional cinematography (though I much more prefer The Mission in this category)

Both are movies that depict the dirty world of mafia, but concentrate on trust between friends.

Both main lead were gangster. Very strong character. Good fighter, but fall for a pretty young woman. They became protective and flipped side

In both the movies the male leads are ordered to kill a woman by their boss, but they're unable to do so and so they do what they can to protect the woman.

Something to keep in mind is a bittersweet life focuses more on the masterful directing rather than plot, my name has amazing plot but not the best directing.
