I loved this movie! As soon as I got done watching it I downloaded the soundtrack! I loved all the piano music in the film. I thought the story was really good. I had heard it was a sad movie, but I was surprised at the turn of events, I hadn't expected it to turn out the way it did. I can't really express my thoughts about the film that way without spoiling anything. But I will say this movie is probably the best asian movie I've seen so far (although I've only seen a handful at the moment -_-). The music was wonderful, the characters/actors were great and I can honestly say I'll probably watch it again! Like the previous review, I did feel it started off a little slow in the beginning, but once it starts picking up you can't stop watching it. Especially towards the end! Definitely a must watch!!

i fell in love with this movie the first time I've seen it and I've watched it over and over again without getting tired of it.

The music in this film is outstanding. It has superb cinematography and has exceptional plot with appealing characters.

The story centers over two talented music students who are really good in playing the piano. Their love story will touch your heart but their relationship gets tangled because of secrets, misunderstanding and other events that will happen in the movie... the ending will make you crave for more...^_^

I really wanted to like this movie but I found myself disappointed at the outcome. The piano in it was fabulous, and it started off really good and sweet, but towards the end it just took a turn for the worst for me. The plot was very messy and it seemed like it was just rushed at the end, leaving me confused as to what just happened as well as contradicting itself. If things were better explained then I wouldn't have given this such a low rating, but unfortunately this movie just didn't do it for me.

Good actors, good music, and a good idea for a story but it needed to be wrapped up in a better way.

The movie is just so perfect! If it was a ride, it was certainly breathtaking.
The plot drives you mad with a well-taken picture, well-composed audio, and high-quality acting skill. You would feel the sincerity in the story. The sincerity of each character plus the mystery throughout the movie makes it somewhat enchanting. I would say that this movie is as romantic as rain but wrapped with the excitement of summer. Nostalgic mood represented in all of the aspects of the movie from the countryside setting to the music that they like and they play. Y'all better be ready for being over-emotional throughout the movie.

Now talking about music, you won't see they're faking it in the movie. Jay Chou plays the instrument very well and the song choice is remarkable. At this point, you'll wonder how can someone become so good at doing anything - yes he acts, sing, dance, play piano, compose songs, even write the move TT TT

Please do try to watch it even just for once. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

Months ago as I was looking for piano pieces, I found a video "Secret Piano Battle". A group of high school students come together watching two of their classmates competing in piano with some really difficult pieces to excel each other.
That scene is taken from this movie and I finally watched it last night.

First thing is I really wanted to study at a high school like this one where you can have piano battles with friends instead of bickering idly. -_-

That being said, I liked all the piano scenes especially the battle scene and the"Secret".
The film is a bit paranormal, there is a good twist which I wasn't expecting to happen so it did surprise me near the final.Other than music, it tells us a few things about friendship, being the "odd" one among the people, not being able to fit in...
The final scene left me a bit up in the air. I can't say I didn't like it but then I can't say I did either.
I just think they may have thought something better for the final scene.
Still, it may worth watching once if you like music.

secret..the title itself will make one wonder what's all the mystery is all about in this story but the mystery is not all that great

the acting is not the strong point in this movie.Mei Kwai Lun is pretty good but Jay Chou is robotic. He had to show all these emotions which he couldn't deliver.I agree he's the music composer and the director of this movie but sadly i wished someone else had acted instead of him since they had such good story to follow through. It comes out as a very sweet story with this romance which one experiences once in a lifetime.the romance definately had its moments and was pretty cute to watch

The cinematography is pretty good but it suffers or lacks in other departments which is such a dissapointment. It doesnt explain many things and leaves it to the viewers imagination which should be good but comes out pretty frustrating

The music i believe is its strongest point. Its speellbinding to the point that it almost manages to tranfer us there where our leads are walking together. The duel with the piano is among the best in the movie. The end scene especially.I cudn't glue my eyes away as he plays within that background.simply too awesome.By watching the end scene one would want to actually go there and do what he's doing.Giving no heed to the world and just playing.

Watch it for the sweet romance and the amazing music that flows through it..you'll enjoy it..:)

WoW!!!! I norally not write reviews, only if i really like the drama or the movie. I love this Movie!!!! this movie got me thinking and trying to solve it. Like what will happen next... why did this happen. overall love it. but the part that made me loved it the most what the end. what happen at the end made my mouth dropped. For three reasons. one: beacuse of what happen to the girl and the way she ended up. second: their story; that they beem apart for so long. end the last one: how the guy goes to play the music piece and... what happen to him :( but at the end they were togther. Another reason why i liked this movie is all the events that happen at first when you watch it, it might seen that the girl is as normal as everybody else but when finally at the end they tell the story and the guy knnows that not just anymore can see her.she doesnt seen that normal.

My Favorite Part:
* when the main guy has a challenge with " the prince of piano" i think thats what his nickname they give him. the way the characters play the piano, mostly beacuse i like playing the piano.

why i would recommened this movie: if you like classic music and like the piano and i very good good end you would like this movie!!!

Wow what to say about this movie that no one has already said. I guess nothing to those who loved secret we all agree that this movie was simply beautiful with magically beautiful music.

For one I had never heard of Jay Chou (well that until I check that I had watch one his movie before , see how unaffected I was,) before this but I can say with confidence that he's someone that I will keep on checking, When looking at him perform you can only tell yourself wow the man's brilliant.

But why am I babbling about him only, when there his a movie to talk about. Secret is just a sweet magical note that will take you on for a ride and when you finally think that you have gotten to the bottom of what the true is, BOOM you are sent on an opposite direction.

Secret is a simple romantic movie, with a splash of pang because you get to easily identify with the characters , even thought there's a fantasy twist to it.

So if you just need a easy little romantic movie, then it would be nice to pick up a nice seat and lose yourself in secret. And Well if you are a classical music lover than the better for the music in this movie is just simply perfect.

The first two thirds of this movie were magical. Jay Chou was brilliant in creating a romantic, suspenseful mood. The piano competition was fantastic and reminiscent of one of my favorites, the 1988 Belgium film, The Music Teacher, in which two opera singers spar off against each other.
If this movie had ended there, it would have been a perfect 10. Unfortunately, the movie took a turn for the worse went it went off in another direction for the last third. I won't reveal any "secret", but the "secret" ended the magic for me.
The credits state that Jay Chou acted, directed, and produced this movie. Is this possible at such a young age? Wow!

This is one of my very favorite films, actually....it is a close second to "Our Times" but not far behind. One of the most delightful films I have seen. As a fan of classical piano, this was just an added bonus because it is a wonderful love story and not only between the main character and his love interest but also between him and his father. Wonderfully written and acted. I have heard some criticism on the male acting but to that I do not agree at all. Jay Chou is fine and let's remember, he is playing a student. I mean, let's not compare this acting to Laurence Olivier in Hamlet.......he is fine and I thought his performance was spot on. As were the girls, they were both so good....and charming. I watch this film over and over and for good reason. Even 60 year old males like myself like romantic films and this is certainly one of them! Oh yes, how could I forget......how cool were those school uniforms that the girls wore? Wow, did they look beautiful!

A love story with a twist

Wow, just wow! This movie has been on my list forever and I only got around to it today. Why did I wait so long?

I want to talk about the movie but I am afraid I am going to spoil too much. So I'm going to go just with a few remarks.

The plot: a love story between two piano prodigies Jay and Rain, in a special music class. But the girl misunderstands an event and disappears instead of talking. Then she goes on to confide in a teacher who spills the beans to her classmates who ostracize her afterwards. Good teaching? I don't think so! And of course, who does demolition work in the middle of the night? Still, it did wonders for suspense and the scene was well choreographed: a dance between a piano and a wrecking ball! Still the plot was tightly woven and there were no holes so well done writers!

The music: classical and original piano music, variations on classical themes. Those actors are real musicians and Jay Chou is fabulously talented pianist, composer and actor. Piano battle scene is legendary.

The poster is perfect: the shadow a colonnade in school makes looks like piano keys.

Cinematography is top notch: everything was filmed in warm tones of brown, almost sepia, and combined with the music, leaving you feeling like wrapped in a soft cozy cocoon.

Acting: excellent. They have decent chemistry.

In short, a beautiful movie.

As a guy I will make this review with a guys perspective.

first IMO there are factors to make a romantic movie successful.

1. The guy should be likable, I should imagine myself as i am the guy in this movie

I must say that I already watched jay chou in some movies and those movies makes me think that he is a bad actor. I am talking about initial D(which IMO should not exist) and green hornet. So I hesitate watching this movie because this number 1 factor I think is impossible but i was wrong it is not difficult to sink to his character and made me think he is me. Tho I think jay chou suck at one scene....the first time she and the female lead met, His reaction is overacting as f*ck.

2. I should fall in love with the girls character

This #2 factor is what made me love this movie. The female lead is a simple girl that becomes really pretty when she smiles. I also like her cheerful character that appears somewhat weak. It makes me wanna protect her.

3. The setting should be realistic

Now this IMO the biggest weakness of the movie. Its hard to imagine their school exist in real life. In fact at first I thought it is a harry potter music school, their uniform, characters and event that happen is harry potter-ish even the ambiance.

The story at first I already get a hint that she is somewhat not part of that world. This might be because of the way they shot some scenes and she is always with the guys character...this is a give away. The concept is genius but they failed to execute it well. This concept is somewhat similar to beautiful mind starring russell crowe , where that movie execute that concept well and this movie secret didn't. The script is genius but also amateur-ish, like they didn't care about plot holes as long as the scene is dramatic...example is the chalk writing that appears in guys desk near the end of the movie. Yes that is a dramatic scene but also a huge plot hole in the movie not just a plot hole but also a somewhat misleading scene that made me think she is a ghost. Without that scene this might be a better movie. Also that ending picture at the end WTF another huge plot hole just to have a more dramatic ending.

Now for the things the I like about this film

Music..

"music can tell thousand stories, music can portrays different emotions"

The piano battle...that scene alone makes this movie worth watching, That one hand technique by that main guy is epic he totally owned the other guy in their battle. I don't care about the songs used in this film I just don't feel the essence, Its the background music the makes this film a nice film to watch specially that music played during the first time the girl time traveled.

Probably I will watch this again with my girlfriend and see what her reaction about this.
