Bias Review towards RUNYUUUUU!
Ashes of Love ended in the process almost everybody wants it to end. The unstoppable love between Xu Feng and Jin Mi, despite of all the challenges that comes their way, satisfied most of its viewers, making this program a high-rated one. This drama, however, gave me throbbing and torturesome second lead syndrome as it makes the Fish Fairy hostile and unsympathetic from being warm and friendly individual. You can hate me for siding with Runyu the way you hate him when he was filled with greed and revenge after extreme grief and misery, but I would strongly insist that in this drama, he's the best character yet was just given with the worst fate. He was able to endure his tragic fate during his childhood, the criticisms thrown to him when he became a prince and all the hate and conspiracies he received when he was appointed as heavenly emperor but seriously, you cannot blame him if he selfishly wanted to be with Jin Mi. He has been alone and lonely ever since he was young, always been wronged and condemned, betrayed and misunderstood, and in the end, punished and left behind. In this drama, however, He's the only one who made me cry. Thanks to the production who gave emphasis on all his excruciating agony, he gained my empathy and respect. I never find his character annoying (maybe because it's the sophisticated Luo Yunxi who played it). His acting was most amazing part. It's even more awesome when the cold Runyu became playful after Puchi pretended to be him. Though a villain, he deserve more love. Though the story is not so good for him, he still managed to encourage me in watching it. Thank you for not dying in the end.-

The cast of this show were amazing. Yang Zi is really good at playing the innocent playful roles. Deng Lun has an awesome voice modulation, wow! Not only does the lead pair have excellent chemistry, but all the actors have amazing chemistry. There is love, fun, heartbreak, anxiety, frustration, hurt, and disaster.I recently started watching Chinese Dramas and this one I really like and cannot wait for Ashes of Love 2. I am hoping same cast.
I would definitely watch this show again. I have actually re-watched a few of my fav epis already.
What I did not like is that the Chief of the Flower Realm did not tell Jin Mi's father about the perishing pellet considering that there was such a such arrangement made for marriage to the elder son of the heavenly emperor. Also, I did not like the fact that the relationship of the two bothers, Xu Feng and Run Yun were destroyed. I really liked their bond and chemistry.
The thing people would do for power, even ruin themselves without realizing it. Like what happened with Run Yun. Although after scheming, plotting, murdering, and obtaining the throne, he was still all alone. Base on his statement, the he got all that he wanted, but not what he demanded, seems like he truly never really loved or care for Jin Mi. His actions also did not illustrate that he loved or cared about Jin Mi as if it were all done, just for him to use Jin Mi, which is what he did.
Love Xu Feng and Jin Mi together. Their chemistry was definitely a wow factor.

I would call it a masterpiece!
My gratitude towards the cast/crew and amazing director for creating this phenomenal Xianxia fantasy C-Drama.
The main roles of AOL played it so well. Yang Zi, Deng Lun and Luo Yun Xi truly amazed your acting.
YZ and DL, the main characters have an amazing chemistry and strong connection. Their romance is amazing but heart wrenching.
The word -- love it and obsessed with it starting from the first episode. Great story, beautifully flow throughout each episode.
Humor and lighthearted are the essence of the story in the beginning towards the middle and it gradually takes a deep dive into an emotional roller coasters with numerous heartaches develop for each character for better or worst. You will develop mix of all emotions and heartaches/tears will be epicenter for the rest of the story from the middle so you will need tons of tissues near you.
Though watching it worth every tear drop because their love is so strong and truly heart breaking near the end!!! Love, humor, betrayal, jealousy revenge, and suspense all elements played well and so there is nothing to omit watching from the 63 episodes. The amazing cinematography, clear dialogue and costumes are so beautifully done.
OST - OMG don't have words for the full OST. All songs are so beautiful but the one that capture my ears/heart among all is -- Upwards to the Moon - by Sa Dingding. Amazing and mesmerizing to listen!!!
After watching drama, I started reading the novel - Heavy Sweetness Ash-Like Frost which is much shorter than the drama. I think drama have done perfectly and showing the true nature of all characters and the beautiful story with great connection.
Love this Drama! I would give my 10/10!!! Watching it for the second time since I do have some withdrawal effects.

although I dont know any Chinese language.
Ashes of love introduced me to many mixed feeling while watching movie.
I am always a happy-ending fans, but than I dont mind seeing all the heartbreak and the pain.
Well honestly, I skipped a few. I just cant bear to watch them.
Years ago I probably would have just stopped at Episode 35, cant stand the evil plot and the turnaround stories.
I tried asking my husband to watch this but I found that this is not quite his genre as there's more of Drama than action:))
what I like the most:
Xu Feng and JInMi's love stories
RunYu's stories with his mom
what I dont like:
watching the Emperor (XuFeng's mom) with all her evil plan.
most of the time I just fast forward her scenes. I know that she always up to no good.
Misunderstanding that happened.
I am watching this on RakutenViki.
Will definitely watch this again, but not anytime soon as there's still a few on my list!

well that escalated quickly
the story starts off light-hearted then moves into darker themes like betrayal, loss, and guilt. without spoiling, i can say that the plot is definitely intriguing. mystery is not one of the main genres, but the twists definitely keep you hooked. the development of the fl and ml are insane, from helplessly lost in love to maturing and understanding the weight of their words and actions. only reason story is not a 10 is because i feel heart palpitations when villains get too much screen time. 9.5/10the cast had insane chemistry, platonic and romantic relationships included. yang mi and deng lun both displayed a range of emotions that make the viewers feel the dramatic shift of moods in the show. from cute scenes that make your heart melt to tear-jerking scenes that make you hug your computer screen, they can do it all. the supporting cast, especially the villains, are honestly too perfect. you know an actor's done their job as a villain when you feel like skinning them alive <3. only reason cast is not a 10 is because one of the side characters was too mild (she only had like 5 mins of screen time). 9/10
music is just chef's kiss. it's been 4 years since my first watch and i listen to the playlist religiously on spotify. the playful background tracks set the mood of the first couple of episodes, and towards the end you realize the melodramatic music is bringing you to full on tears. the traditional instruments used were amazing as well. 10/10
rewatch value is lower than all the others because: P A I N. i love the first half because you get easily attached to the characters and get interested in their backstories. without spoiling much, all i can say is you immediately get shot down from fluff romance heaven to tragic betrayal mode. it's not a flaw or critique, it actually makes the show more memorable., but if you don't want to burst into tears randomly in the middle of the night, one watch is enough.
final notes: this review may be slightly mild and less picky because i only started watching historical dramas in 2017. nonetheless it's an unforgettable show where it makes you wanna search up all the behind the scenes shots.

OMG this was one of my favorite dramas; I rewatched it sooooo many times. First, to point out, I loved their main characters and I found that this drama had a lot of humor in it. I really fell for these characters, but there was a point that I got annoyed about the plot because of jin ming and how she didn't understand her emotions.
The music was amazing and it followed the plot very well
The plot was amazing and how all 63 episodes were not boring at all, except there was a lot of suspense and it took a while to get to the point.
Overall, 10/10 recommend and just to say, Fantastic and Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely love this drama. It took me a while to start it. Admittedly it took me 5 months to finish the whole thing, I stopped for ages around ep 41 then continued in one hit.
The acting is amazing. I didn't know much about the actors before starting and Yang Zi's character kind of irked me in the beginning. But I absolutely love the character growth in this and how she matures. Deng Lun is just so good. His character is so innately good and faithful, their story is so beautiful. My absolute favourite part I just rewatched after the end was the mortal arc. Bawled my eyes out again but it's so beautiful. Watching them fall in love was so incredibly touching.
Music - still have it on repeat for the last few months. I'm so sad the background music during the mortal arc isn't in the OST. The music is so appropriate for the series and so heartwrenching during certain scenes.
The only thing I didn't like so much about the series was the end. I also thought there was too much focus on Runyu. I wanted more closure and lovey dovey scenes with the main leads!!! Nooooo I felt there wasn't much closure at the end for the main pair.
Other than that, will definitely rewatch and totally recommend!

Ever since I started watching this drama it was often stuck in my head and since finishing it I feel that sinking feeling of sadness in my stomach and have thoughts about it constantly churning in my mind. Ashes of Love was a *good* drama. It wasn’t perfect and it certainly had its lackluster moments, but overall it was engaging, sweet, and heartbreaking.
A large majority of my interest here is due to Deng Lun. Fair warning: much gushing ahead.
Hot. Damn.
I had not seen him in anything before this and I found that he looks a lot like Park Seo Joon at times, whom I just adore so pair that up with the fact that his character Xu Feng is not only the God of War but a freakin’ Pheonix…*fans face*
Literally: smoking hot.
Xu Feng (aka Pheonix) has probably ruined me for all other lead guys…he was loyal, sweet, smart, determined, and a real bad ass. His devotion to Jin Mi was so absolutely heartwarming AND heartbreaking…THE LOOKS HE WOULD GIVE HER. My God.
There is one scene where he’s kinda trying to win Jin Mi over and she rushes away, taking deep breaths and muttering “That was close…he’s so hot.”
YAS GIRL, we know.
It was both wonderful and terrible to watch him fall so in love with Jin Mi and to see how she (unintentionally) broke his heart over and over, but he never gave up!
I will say there were times in this drama where I hated most of the characters, even Jin Mi. But I never hated Xu Feng. Even during his coldest moments later on, when we hear his commentary in the end about what he was thinking/feeling during that time O-M-G. He is just so damn perfect.
Xu Feng and Jin Mi’s journey together is obviously the driving factor in the plot here but while there are some other great characters and a few subplots that were interesting, the story did lag now and then and I really didn’t care all that much when either of the leads were not involved. I mean, with 60 episodes there is bound to be a little dragging, so I can’t hardly fault it for that.
I do take a lot of issue with the ending, however. With the 60 episodes mentioned above, I feel like they had ample time to flush out a fully satisfying conclusion but instead it felt really rushed to me and I did not get all that I wanted out of it, which is a huge part of the reason I feel this gaping hole in my heart now that it’s over.
Also, a few characters were just like…never mentioned again in the last two episodes? They were side characters, but still…come on!
There is apparently supposed to be a sequel, but I think it’s unconfirmed whether this will be a continuation of Xu Feng and Jin Mi’s story (doubtful) or if it will simply deal with other characters in this world. Either way, if we get some more time with these characters I think that will help bring me more closure with their story.
Combine feeling unsatisfied with the conclusion with missing these characters dearly and I’m left simply heartbroken with the ending. I just have to wait for time to heal this wound…
Phoenix….TT_TT
