This is real romance! First mature Korean show I've seen. This isn't a love story, a life story is more appropriate. It's a very beautiful-powerful representation of relations between people with awesome combination of lightness and seriousness; not only love but also friendship, siblings’ love etc. Overall mood of drama is light; often it’s L-O-L kind of funny without being idiotic and very heartwarming and sometimes it gives feeling of emptiness. I’m a guy and I’m not ashamed to admit that I shed many tears of happiness while watching Alone in Love. I felt like I was one of the members of their friend circle. I was attached emotionally with each character. I felt emotionally saturated after going through this lovely show!
Eun-ho (SYJ) and Dong-jin’s (KWS) views in narration on their life and love are inspiring and can be lessons for most people. Their views can be useful for any person-any age, those who are in love, those who were in love and especially those who yet to be in love!

Acting/cast:

Almost everyone was A+ in acting including guest roles!
Gong Hyung-Jin is brilliant and funny as an unconfident gynecologist and played an important role as best friend of main lead.

Son Ye-Jin: I don’t need to talk about her. She’s proven actress. She is flawless throughout whole show but her best performance was in the last two episodes.

Lee Ha-Na: I’m very very impressed by this actress! This was her first role in her career still she managed to perform it brilliantly. She was very natural, great expressions and dialogue delivery. Sometimes she was suppressed by the presence of Son Ye-Jin but still she outclassed SYJ in many scenes! She definitely deserved her New Star award.

Kam Woo Sung: Poor guy, every other actor in this drama got acknowledgement for their acting by getting either best actress; top excellence, New Star or supporting actor-actress awards but this poor man missed it! I think his acting was best in the whole cast! Clever dialogue delivery! BEST!

Music:

Music was mesmerizing. I couldn't find OST album yet so I don't know specific track names to point out but I loved the music!

Pros:

-Very realistic
-Romantic!
-No angst and typical Asian show riddles
-Excellent combination of all emotions
-Perfect casting & acting!
-Strong and likable characters
-No idols
-0% nonsense
-No annoying characters
-Stable pace

Cons:

None, still I couldn't find anything negative except this was highly addictive. It felt like a 16 hour long movie!

Who should watch this?

As I said it’s mature so it'll definitely suit mature audience but I think it’s more advisable to recommend it to younger audience (I'm also in this group!) to give slight idea about love! So in short everyone! Highly recommended for everyone!
If someone wants to watch a Korean show and wants to watch only one then I'd recommend Alone in Love. I'd easily sideline my previous joint #1 Salaryman and Evasive Inquiry Agency!

Who should avoid this?

-Those who want adrenaline rush in everything.
-Those who want to live in fantasy.
-Those who want to watch mushy, kiddo’s, ‘Love @ 1st sight’, “I love you…I love you too!”/”I can't live without you…” kind of romance.
-Those who want to watch kissing scenes should totally avoid this. There aren't any actual kissing scenes.

This is such a wonderful drama and thought the actors all display so much expression through their roles. I really like the poignancy of the drama and the storyline is much more like something that you could imagine in real life than I have seen in other dramas. I loved the development of the relationships between the characters too.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone. A beautiful drama that really made me think and contemplate for some time after completing it.

At first i was hesitant to watch this drama because of the male lead. Come on, how can they pair such beautiful actress like son ye jin to kam woo sung? I mean he's a good actor but they are not visually match atleast for me. So i started to see the first episode for only one reason - SYJ. But as the story goes by, I am blown away..
One of the most realistic slice of life plot I've ever seen. No doubt why this series were critically acclaimed. I love everything about the show. They are normal people with ordinary job and life issues. I adore their circle of friends, somehow they made me feel as if I am one of them As I watch episode by episode I was amaze by the portrayal of everyone. I started to appreciate the male lead because the lead couple ACTING chemistry were simply astounding.
The noble idiocy here is not that kind of annoying as you can genuinely feel and understand the sincerity and reasoning of the ex couple who let go of each other and both trying to find true happiness outside each other's lives. Their pain as they bickering and encouraging each other to move on but cant totally let go were palpable to watch. I especially enjoyed Lee ha na's character, shes witty and adorable. After i watched this, Son ye jin gained my respect. I was so mesmerized by her expression, not exaggerated nor lacking and yet can conveyed powerful emotions just by looking in her eyes i can feel her sentiment. I am so fascinated by her beauty and acting skills.
Its 2018 and I am still re-watching it sometimes. My no.1 all time fav.

A lighthearted and heatrwarming Melodrama

The main romance, which is the core of the drama was executed very well. It never drags as the writer constantly tries to introduce new characters which bring new story lines with them. It is also to be noted that all the characters introduced are fully fleshed out characters rather than being introduced just to create conflict between the main leads. The mystery aspect of the story was treated really well. The main couple had very good chemistry and Son ye Jin was brilliant in her role.

Main issue with this drama is that the secondary romance felt forced. I never felt any chemistry between them. I felt that it was introduced just to pad the runtime.
Final episode was a disappointment to say the least. Too much happens in just this one episode and I felt it was rushed.
Comedic elements felt a little repetitive (it follows the same pattern and usually revolves around the second couple)
Perormances were good overall although i felt Lee ha Na's performance to be awkward. I felt she was trying too hard to be naive and childish that it goes a little overboard.

Overall this drama was ligh hearted in its approach which was surprising.

Alone in Love is one of the most depressing dramas I’ve watched, an unusual distinction for a show that doesn’t end with a pile of dead bodies, or even a pile of irrevocably broken hearts. It’s not so much an issue of dark plot twists, though there are real tragedies in the characters’ histories, as of overall world view. If you ever wondered what a romantic comedy would look like refracted through the lithium-laced sensibility of a suicide here’s your chance. When I later read that the author of the Japanese novel the show is based on killed himself, a lot of pieces fell into place.

If you can stomach the underlying bleakness (and incessant donut shilling), the drama does feature outstanding performances by Son Ye Jin and Kam Woo Sung as a divorced couple struggling to move on. Their scenes are funny and heartbreaking, if a bit repetitive, as they try to reconcile old wounds with lingering desires. The rest of the cast is strong as well, keeping the show engaging when the meandering plot becomes too slice-of-life for its own good. However, even when things are going swimmingly for all concerned, an omnipresent haze of alienation lingers like stale cigarette smoke over the proceedings. The script may tell you that better days lie ahead, but it’s more convincing in its pain than in its joy.

Great love story.

What's love? This is a mature story about people falling out of love, searching for love and are afraid of love. Great character writing and smooth exchange of dialogue. The subtle comedy was done wonderfully. The drama had a unique sense of direction at times where it expands beyond the conventional realm of drama, it even steps into film territory briefly with film-like shot compositions and witty dialogue. This is the type of drama where whether the couple came back together or not is irrelevant, their love story is what made it worth it. The drama isn't perfect by any means, but it succeed in delivering a well made package. Although I wish if they merged Mi Yeon and Yoo Kyung into one character/story instead of giving each a section in the drama.

Lee Ha Na, this is her first acting role in drama or film and she absolutely nailed her performance. She even outshone Son Ye Jin every now and then. I find her, as an actress, is better fit in casual roles like this one over action ones like in "Voice". It would be nice if Voice would just end with season 5 and Lee Ha Na would move to bigger and better projects.

GREAT ACTING! GREAT STORY!

I’m years behind, in watching this show, as I’ve just discovered Viki and stumbled across this show. I loved Son Ye-jin in “Something in the Rain,” but the acting she does in the latter episodes of “Alone in Love,” is superb! I found the story to be reflective of ‘perceptive’ love, the responses to it, and the trails of pain we leave behind. The story was beautiful between the lead characters. There is a very obvious bond. The way the writer tells the stories, drew me in to each plight. All characters were relatable, and I thought behaviors were depicted as often seen in real life: females being helpless, conniving, oblivious, and confident; men, domineering, insecure, players, idiots, and supportive. The pace was fine. Would loved to have seen the ending flushed out just a little more. Overall, a great show!
