The Hero Gang is a nasty group of thugs terrorizing Hong Kong with their killer robots, Pioneers 1 and 2. While Pioneer 1 looks like an ordinary robot, Pioneer 2 has been modeled on Maria, the gang's #2 thug. When Pioneer 2 gets damaged during a mission to kill an outcast gang member, an inventor on the police force takes her and changes some of her programmings. This new code, plus a few injuries to her logic center, start causing Pioneer 2 to develop her own personality. Edit Translation

Frank Miller on drugs

I Love Maria is like if Frank Miller got stoned halfway through writing RoboCop 2, suffered an intense acid trip while watching Metropolis with Gundam playing in his mind and then got Tsui Hark to direct and star in it. Horrendously cheesy but entertaining from start to finish and of course, Tony Leung and a robotic Sally Yeh to top it all off.
