1) Rulan swears Ming Lan to secrecy regarding her secret relationship with Master Wei

2)Ming Lan makes it clear to her the He family that she cannot accept the cousin as a concubine because it blurs the line of power in the house and would be a huge mess--ultimately Master He refuses but Ming Lan is not convinced==

3) Ming Lan expresses anger to her grandmother that she is frustrated that other people expect her to yield to someone just because she is pitiful, and since Ming Lan chooses to reject this relationship because it is clear she cannot rely on Master He who is too easily persuaded by others, she chooses to keep looking.

4)Elsewhere we learn that the Duke of Ying will be taking another wife, and there are little crowds of people trying to marry Gu

5)We learn that Gu intends to propose to Rulan, and when the parents find out, they are so shocked they fall out of their chairs (so the pieces are being laid, Gu Ting Ye plans to propose to Rulan because he must, it would be rude not to, but he will wind up getting Ming Lan)

6)Rulan refuses outright and even accuses her mother of using her for her own vanity

7)Ming Lan tries to convince her to marry him and sings his praises
