When he was younger, Ko Yat Tai accepted a mission to infiltrate the triads as an undercover agent. The triad leader's daughter, Lou Man Na, fell in love with him at first sight. Although Ko Yat Tai already had his heart set on the simple Lee Ying Lan, he pretended to be with Lou Man Na in order to solve the case. As a result, he quickly rose through the ranks in the triad. One time, during a fight between triads, Ko Yat Tai eliminated Lou Man Na's triad rivals, but Lou Man Na's fate remained unclear. Ko Yat Tai's good friend, Nip Yu Hong, knows about his affair with Lou Man Na and their infant son Ko Ka Long. Ko Yat Tai brings Ko Ka Long home, and Lee Ying Lan also gives birth to a son Ko Ka Chu. Because of the sin that he represented, Ko Ka Long did not grow up with love from his father. But Ko Ka Chu also did not get spoiled by Ko Yat Tai and instead had to go through many hardships. The half-brothers accumulate a number of grudges growing up. Each of them also coincidentally develops a father-like mentor relationship with Nip Yu Hong. During a grand promotional ceremony, Ko Yat Tai, having achieved the rank of Superintendent, is happily preparing to receive this honour but unknowingly steps into a revenge plot that is thirty years in the making... Action filled drama with interesting characters
Aside from the action scenes, I think Flying Tiger's main strength was the characters. The characters were all very interesting. My favourite was Lo Man La. I loved that she was a complex villain who wasn't just straight up good or bad. You could see why she acted the way she did and sympathise with many of her actions. She definitely made the drama very interesting. The plot was okay overall. I was a bit confused with the main goal of the police officers- whether they were trying to overthrow gangs or stop the terrorists. They kept switching back and forth. Also, I thought some of the actions from the police force were kind of unrealistic. Some of the orders given by those in charge made no sense and looked like the script writers were just trying to create some drama. They kept having officers in missions involving their family members, when in real life that probably wouldn't happen.
The acting was pretty good. The only thing I didn't like was all the English speaking parts. A lot of the time it sounded kind of awkward, but this wasn't a big issue for me since it wasn't very often.
I was debating on rating this 7 or 8 stars, but decided on 8 since I liked the ending.
Its surprisingly good!
I somehow managed to watch the 飞虎 series backwards, which meant that I watched 壮志英雄 and 雷霆极战 before this show. Knowing how horrendous the latter was, I had no expectations whatsoever of the first series. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this drama very much despite it flaws.Plot:
I felt they may have gone a bit too far as it was unrealistic most of the time. It actually showed scenes of 飞虎队 (one of the many reasons why I hated the second season), the action scenes were very good and all in all the romance was done perfectly.
Now the flaws. The ending was very unsatisfactory especially since they hyped up the big villain 红狼 for so long, only for him to die in a mediocre fight scene. Some of the scenes were also, as mentioned. a little strange and lacked logic. Honestly I only kept watching because of the action.
Acting:
The cast was massive and the acting really delivered. Once again, Bosco and Ron were incredible plus the legendary Michael Miu did well as usual. The problems arose from the villains. I did not enjoy watching any of them.
Songs:
I mean, who doesn’t like Reunion? Its the perfect 飞虎 song. The sub theme I can’t say the same. Bosco just sounds so similar to Ron that the song lacked depth.
Rewatch:
I always love a good crime thriller and 飞虎之潜行极战 is almost exactly that.
I am not looking forward to reviewing 雷霆极战…
