Some may compare this movie to fast and the furious but it is closer to a Ron Howard movie Rush. The pacing is similar to that movie where the story develops after each leg and while Rush is about rivals it's also somewhat similar to brotherly love.
Though with its heartful theme, the highlight of the movie are still the race scenes. I would say those racing sequences are executed really well, the camera shots are nice, the car zoom, skid, aerial shots and adrenaline pumping car crashes are brilliant. Though the visuals are very pleasing, there still some unrealistic events in this movie, like after a massive car crash you would see one character shirtless without any blood or bruises, but who gives a damn right as long as the movie is enjoyable and thrilling I am fine with that.
The acting in this movie is very impressive especially Higashide, never thought he could act this way. He is very expressive and you could feel his intensity as he shouts while giving instruction to his team. Mackenyu as the angsty younger brother did a good job too, I've seen him in Fugitive Boys, Todome no kiss and JoJo Live action so I already knew he was capable to play this type of character, I love his versatility as well.
I enjoyed watching this movie; time flew fast without realizing it's about to end. I wouldn't say it's the best racing movie though but compared to mainstream Hollywood movies such as fast and the furious I enjoy this better. Lastly if you are a girl this movie would be a heaven for you, lots of Ikemen from leads to supporting leads and would you ignore a shirtless Mackenyu? As a guy seeing that body inspires me to work out.

I watched this because of Arata Mackenyu
When I decided to watch this movie, it was basically because im a hardcore fan of Macken. Generally this movie isn't the type that i would watch or enjoy... but i still watched it and gave it a shot. In short, i felt like it had a stagnant plot. I was constantly waiting for something to happen but nothing really did. I understand it was more of a brotherhood type of movie, but in my view it was just... cars. And to be frank the racing scenes were the most exciting- at least something was going on, and it had you anticipate something...I wouldn't watch it again., but one must praise the actors- they did a good job with portraying the frusrration and sadness, though it had no depth to it because of the story line...
Honestly it's a 5/10 but i added a 1.5 because macken :')

IG reels made me watched the movie BUT it's NOT worthy!
After Netflix released "One Piece" in 2023 Mackenyu aka Roronoa Zoro's popularity increased and my IG feed filled with his previous movie clips... As expected I searched for that movie everywhere and couldn't find it after a while found it & let me tell you so, you can decide whether to watch it or not.If you expected Fast & Furious kinda of action or any romance you're going to be highly disappointed! Actually, there is not a strong story it's a blend... Yes, there is only one actor in the movie & you know who.... other actors didn't have much impact on the story... it is only about Hiyama Naozumi aka Mackenyu.

the story is about two brothers' bond, their childhood a lost friend & unsaid things that haven't been addressed until he fulfills his Dream which is to become the best in the World Rally Championship. FYI it's a sports-based movie where sport isn't the highlight just the brothers' quarrel.
IMO, it's a good thing that they didn't add any more love angle in the movie with the promoter cuz that would be unnecessary.
Overall it's a one-time watch movie but don't get your hopes high. I don't know why it gets a 7.5 rating in MDL?
BUT if you expecting the thrill of racing, romance, or passion... you might be wasting your time. I am given 5.5 only and ONLY for Mackenyu.
Guess I'll be watching his other movies which have below-average ratings on IMDB but who cares about rating when you like the actors!

The story is mostly about racing. I didn't much understand about that world, but I love the driver (^o^) It's sad that those brother have a bad relationship because of jealousy, but I love the ending. The mechanic team was so cool when they're repair the drowning car. And in my opinion, Mackenyu really suitable to play the antagonist or cold role (^_^) As for Higashide Masahiro, he can be anything, he’s just too cool (^o^)

somewhat disappointing
The main problem with Over Drive was it had too much going on and too little time to cover all these areas and so it comes out mediocre. Backstories, storyline, characters development, character explorations are all not met because within just less than two hours, it was difficult to give all these aspects their equal share of screen times. I think I would've liked the movie better if it was made into an actual drama since it had a lot of potential and about the right amount of materials to. But it falls short. Side characters are not dived into well enough that they come off almost irrelevant or having no point in being in the story (especially Endo and Masuda). There's hints of romance but there's no chemistry and the relationship growth is not realistic or explored enough so it kind of just makes you feel nothing. I could tell that the story was rushed and so was everything else. Quite disappointing because it had such a promising casts.Was this review helpful to you?

I really liked this movie. At first i thought there was a romance between the boy and the girl because of some tik tok edits but not at all. When i realised it was actually a movie centered in sport competition and the relationship between the two brothers I wasn’t disappointed by that. Because i think this type of movies don’t necessarily need a romance. And i was really interested during the whole movie, it wasn’t boring to watch. I think they knew how to make things interesting and how to make a catchy movie by developping the relationship between the brothers (SPOILER: for exemple why they seem to have some anger in their relationship etc… ) The storyline was good. But i also can understand why people would be frustrated by the fact that there was no romance. Because when we see the girl character i think we would like her to change the situation, maybe to play a role in the current situation. But she seems to just be an observer of what is happening, so it might be frustrating at some moments. But i think this is a chill movie to watch if you like sport movies and siblings relationship. If i have to find one negative point, I would probably say the development of the girl character. I think they could have done something better with her character! Great watch.
If you like car, this movie definitely for you. If you not much into car or don’t know anything about car engine, like me, this is a very enjoyable movie.The OST was so good. The first song st the beginning and the last song really fit the movie well.
The scenery was so beautiful. The high tech filming was unbelievable. The high angle down, the speed, the lightning, the editing was definitely the top notch.
I have only watch two race car movie that were really good. “Rush” F1 Formula. That was legend. Recently watch “Ford vs Ferrari”. When people talk about race cars, they think about Ferrari. This movie doesn’t have Ferrari, it has Japanese make cars. It has the same enthusiastic mechanics, the sponsors, the fans, the talents and style.
Now, lets talk about the acting. Mckenyu was the perfect choice for this role. He is the driving force for this movie. His eyes focus, bright, and full of desires. He looks good when he was angry, when he smile, when he was desperate, sad etc. he has they style, the energy, the charm and charismatic. I am dying looking at his muscular body. Then Takumi Kitamura, love his youth, his natural looking, gentle and pleasant look. Mashahiro playing big brother. Veteran actor. That film but soft facial tone portrait his role really well. Then young Keita, he probably not too famous back then. So four powerhouse Japanese actors in one movie. That was not to be miss. To be honest, McKenyu stole the show. That beautiful clear eyes and the body language was precious.
Overall, must watch. Love the 2 brothers downhill bicycles scenery. Among the Asian countries that can make professional race car movie well worth watching, it has to be Japan.

Go for it
I like the movie . Starting g to end ,movie just went in one flow .No boredom not at all . Misunderstanding among brothers alive at the end had been shown in the movie .But one thing I think is lack in the movie is that they didn't put much role of the girl who became attender of car racer . I knew it was her supporting g role bit still they put her role in the movie in the way that she put too much influenced among the brother and this time older brother expressed his feeling towards her and younger brother didn't lie to her .
I think it become complete story if they complete the movie with the love story.
