All I want to say is can someone explain the ending to me?

The only things that keep me watching this series until the end are the acting and I want to know how it ends. however, the ending confused the h*ll out of me. I have tried to watch it the second time for the last 6 episodes but they still confused me.

Story:
First half of the series is pretty okay, well paced, and managed to make me intrigued the behind story of Mo Qing. However, the second half is plot is just messy, and focusing on unimportant things. Such as, we do not need to know that much scene of the villains missing and lamenting their other half over and over and over again. We also do not need to watch the same scene over and over again but with no new information at all (the scene of Mo Qing with the demons). It all unravels in like the last 1/3 of the series but oh God help me, I can't even make sense of it due to the editing of the scene which keep jumping everywhere without order and any sense. This keep happening until the end of the series which is the worst of it all. I can't even make any sense on the last episode due to the poor editing and planning of it. It feels like I just wasted my time watching all 56 episodes and it ended up with that kind of ending that I just can't make sense out of it due to the editing of the scene. IMO, It is much better for The director and scriptwriter to make the ending as sad and tragic as possible with chronological order ending than gave us this kind of jumpy order happy (????? seriously I am confused, what the h*ll happened) ending which makes no sense.

I can continue to rant on this but I will spare you from it.

Acting:
One of the reasons I managed to watch it till the end.

Music:
Gotta say I love the ending OST.

Rewatch Value:
I rated it 6 for the sake of rewatching it to try to makes this drama more sense maybe we can find something that we miss that can make us understand the ending. But i highly doubt it due to the biggest problem is with the editing.

My score would have been higher if it were not for episodes 30-ish and above. This drama is pretty good, with a good story and action. As this is a drama from 2019, the episodes are still more than 40 and there's a lot of filler from episode 30 onwards. I lost interest after that. I really like Bai Lu in this drama. She plays a badass character and does that so well and suits her well. The rest of the cast are good too but Bai Lu is especially good in this drama. Songs from the OST are also nice. Overall, this is quite a good drama.

FL is through and through a tough one. I really liked that about the story. One who does not shy away from loving and hating. Goes all in. ML here is kind and does not show that tough image though he speaks less words and speaks more through his gaze, who has unconditional love for FL. Enjoyed their screen time! I came here after watching AMA, yes Xu Kai role is different, he is thoughtful and has foresight, this was still entertaining to see their love grows from one sided to hate to mutual admiration. Both are bad ass leads and yet considerate.

An excellent drama, remarkable for the beauty of its images!

Great high-budget Xianxia story, telling the war between the immortal (but twisted and devious) sects and the so-called evil sects (but they're the good guys). The Wan Yu sect is led by a devil woman & the son of the Demon King (Xu Kaï, very handsome with blue hair, as always)!!!!).
=> Perpetual struggles between the sects, with the appearances of an overpowering "inner demon".

⊕ Excellent cast (all the actors, but especially the 2 leads who give a remarkable performance and develop a great chemistry).
⊕ Dynamic production
⊕ High quality action scenes and stunts
⊕ Magnificent costumes and sets, all is very aesthetically pleasing.
⊕ Excellent (even if not memorable) OSTs perfectly suited to amplify emotions.

⊝ complex storyline, even confusing at times (How twisted do writers have to be to imagine such narrative arcs???) with a less exciting story halfway through the series.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Had potential to be a great drama but a lot of sloppy editing

It's a long review. I put a comment with spoiler with how the ending is not clear. There's so many endings you can take out of it.
FRUSTRATING ISSUES of the drama: Don't watch on Youtube. Subs are missing sometimes. Had to go to Viki for missing subs but the pacing is different from Youtube and I had to go back an episode on Viki.
The part that frustrated me was that I became too committed to this drama. I really wanted to make sure that I do not miss a single scene, so I watched the drama on both Youtube and Viki at the same time (since YT has 56 eps and Viki 55)
SCENES ISSUE- While watching both the YouTube and Viki version, I noticed that one site had the same scene in dark while the other was in daylight. After reading other reviews, it made sense. The editing team for this drama did a bad job on distinguishing day & night. Some scenes required night filters while others did not. It also made me understand why I was confused as to how some people saw Zhao Yao in broad daylight when she was supposed to be invisible.
The WORST part the editing team did to this drama is Episodes 51-end. The scenes were all over the place and not in sequential order. One episode's content was split amongst these 5 episodes. 51-55 is near the end and it was a critical point for the drama since that's when things are finally wrapping up and coming to an end, & their editing messed it up.
For Episodes 51-55, I watched APrincessofMars re-edit 50-55 and then Viki's 51-55. I see the ending they both aimed for.
As for the names issue some may have, I have no issue with it. This seems to be a pattern with Chinese historical fantasy/xianxia/wuxia genre. I've only watched TMOPB before this and it had the same issue. Characters name suddenly change and you're like confused for a bit till you understand who it is.

GOOD PARTS of the drama:
-The Acting. Especially Xu Kai and Bai Lu. I came to watch this drama after finishing AMA which made me come here for more. Xu Kai is not just a pretty face with a cute smile as some have said; his acting pulled off Chen Lan's devotion, sadness, sacrifice, and so on (you could see the emotion in his eyes). I find myself less attached to characters in general and whenever I do become emotionally attached, that's a sign that the character had an impact on me. When watching the last episode (of the fan edit), I was crying when he made his last sacrifice and what his last words were. Bai Lu did a wonderful job of showing the development of Zhao Yao's character. Shane Xiao also did a nice job by pulling off multiple characters. She had to act like Zhao Yao's demoness character and her own character of a shy, weak girl.
(Regarding Zhao Yao's character, I don't think they diminished her character. When she saved Mo Qing, she was strong, but was clear about her ambition. After becoming a demoness, while she helped people, she didn't do it in the way she originally envisioned, because she lost trust. While she was not in her full strength when looking like Zhi Yan, she still had her great martial art& sword skills. Chen Lan did save her a few times, but during that time they were building romance and try to clear Zhao Yao's misunderstanding of him and rebuilding her trust. They also had to make her realize that Chen Lan was making her original dream come true. Even though her character wasn't the same as the time she was a demoness, she was still strong. And also, when she regained her powers, she had her own battles. Chen Lan let her deal with Ming Xuan on her own and dealt with the phoenix instead. And when Chen Lan was abducted, she went to fight Ming Xuan again. She may have been helped a little, but she did most of the battle. Also strength of a character doesn't depend entirely on physical elements alone. You could see with how she saw through most of the traps set for Zhi Yan that Zhao Yao isn't a completely clueless character as the way Zhi Yan was painted. Zhao Yao also didn't fall for blackmail threats either.
- The Romance. The chemistry between the main couple is hooking. It was the main part of the drama that just kept me going despite there being so many issues with the editing.
- Some of the side characters and their stories (Qin Qian Xian & Shi Qi, Gu Han Guang & Shen Qian Jin, Sima Rong specifically)

What I DISLIKED about the drama:
- Crashing weddings. I didn't care so much about Zhao Yao sealing off Luo Ming Xuan on his wedding day cause he was such a hypocritical being and wanted to kill and killed innocent people. They did a thorough job of making you hate Su Ruo completely so you never felt sorry for her, even though she did evil things out of love and sexual frustration (literally what she expressed about regretting not being able to have sex on their marriage night). But what I was pissed about was our main couple. When they were discussing marriage proposal, I already predicted their wedding would crash, was hoping it wouldn't, but it did.
- How they tried to change Jiang Wu's character last minute and attempt to redeem him. Initially, I had no problems with Jiang Wu, but then he got on my nerves. At one point, Zhao Yao made it clear she likes Chen Lan, but he is still crazily obsessed over her. He crashes her wedding which was the start of me being pissed at this character. But then they try to make him to a good guy who saved Zhao Yao with his heart. BUT THEN he stabs Chen Lan with the Liutenhiayi Sword causing Chen Lan problems. THEN he tries to provoke Chen Lan KNOWING that he has an inner demon and cannot control it. He PURPOSELY made him jealous and causes his own friend's death. But he blames it entirely on Chen Lan and asks for a life in return and kills Ah Da. And they try to redeem him by showing him "sacrificing" himself and then being Zhao Yao's sword against Ming Xuan. If they wanted to redeem him, then they should have made his character less irritating. But his crimes are on the same level of Su Ruo.
- Lin Zi Yu. Her character is worthless in the drama. Should have been deleted.Or they could have just made her the male character from novel.
- Repetition of Chen Lan riding the dragon with his eyes closed. Repetition of same flashbacks.
- Killing off people that are in relationships. I felt like this drama had this repetitive theme. While Zhao Yao & Mo Qing don't start off officially as a couple, they kill her off for 5 years leaving Mo Qing heartbroken and then develop their romance. Then you see Rong's lover Yue Zhu getting killed. Then when Gu Hanguang and Shen Qian Jin come into the story, I was expecting to see Qian Jin to die when she has the Cold Poison taken over her. And at this point, I theorized the drama is killing off all the women in the couples. But nope! They kill off Gu Han Guang. They crush your hopes of a Qin Qian Xian & Shi Qi couple. Why even bother trying to develop romance between them if you're just going to kill them off?
- The ending. Even if I understood both fan re-edit and Viki's ending.. Viki version.. they couldn't do a proper job making it continuous. And make the costumes match. But this is the drama's team fault.
- UNEXPLAINED events in the story which also led to plotholes
- Zhi Yan's weak character. She acted it nice, but sometimes I was annoyed at how clueless and weak they made her look at the start.

Overall, even though it seems like I have more complaints, I still can't say I hated the drama. I did find somewhere about the differences between the novel and drama. I'd say the novel cut down unnecessary love triangles and fillers. Better explanations. Had a better and happy ending that the drama failed to deliver. I think some parts of the drama that weren't in the novel were fine while I also wished they included some parts of the novel such as the ending and less killing of relationships.
If I were to re-watch, it would just be for the romance of the main couple and scenes with my favorite side characters. Everything else I'd skip.

Came to watch this as I loved Bai Lu and Xu Kai in military academy.

I loved Bai Lu's sassy character and Xu Kai's mysterious and devoted love for Zhaoyao, I don't think I've ever seen an onscreen couple with such good chemistry, I almost thought they're for real!

I hated that theres so much unnecesasry storylines with too many side characters, I pretty much skipped all of that and only wachted the 2 leads, and its still totally easy to follow, I'm after the romance and I think if they cut out 10 episodes of crap and just focused on the main characters it will be a lot better, maybe also use that money to invest in better CGI.

As everyone has already pointed out, not sure what went on in the last few episodes, but it was a complete mess, its almost as if the person piecing the clips togther got really confused, nothing made sense. It's a shame that it finished on such a low as the actors were great

It's been a while since I wrote a review on a show and I make it a habit to write reviews on shows I think are either TERRIBLE and should be avoided or are UNDERRATED or MISUNDERSTOOD. This is one of the Misunderstood shows.

STORY: So I've seen a lot of people saying the story is dumb and there's too many time skips but may I say the time skips make the development. In the first five or so episodes, the story is developed poorly and we get two Five year time skips. At first I was so pissed and like confused because those episodes literally contained the plot. LITERALLY. This shouldn't stop you from watching it as it's gradually explained in painful but needed flashbacks. I gave the story a 9 because it's unique. The Idea that what you see or hear are most likely not true. .The Idea that though Demons mean a cruel/ evil spirit or person, the people we call demons might actually be angels that went through terrible things and the people we call angels might be the demons in disguise. In other words, do not judge a book by it's cover nor a person by the front they put on as most are just people hurting. This made me fall in love with the story. Oh and yes it is a love story, a story of love of different people who went through shit. Not just romantic, the familial love and loyalty. The tragic love of some. Love that was bound to be tragic and love that was bound to survive the tragedies thrown at them. IT IS A GOOD SHOW!

ACTING/CAST: Can I give a rating higher than 10? WOW Xu Kai and Bai lu, can I please get another romance show with both of you as leads? The acting...what can I say? I was mind blown by all the casts. The evil, the good, the demons, the angels. (Metaphorical). My favorite characters apart from our leads would be seventeen (Lu Shi Qi), Jiang Wu (Though got on my nerves a billion times) and our savage doctor (Han Guang). They were the comic relief of the show, the beauty in the show and the most loyal. Worst character? THE ENTIRE IMMORTAL SECT OF MINGXUAN. Any character that liked Mingxuan automatically, I hated. Favorite couple? of course our main leads. Demoness and Demon kings son. Their love went through so many trials and tribulations but stood strong.

MUSIC: Beauty.

ENDING: This is my main reason for this review. Now it seems a lot of people were confused by the ending. It was a happy ending. The two at the end were not them but their kids playing them. Understood? Yes. Okay. Yes it pissed me off to not see them together at the end too but we gotta take what we can get right?

Rewatch: Yes, sometime in the future.

Let me round it off by telling y'all...the kiss scenes...the wait was worthy. If you're looking for some angst, romance, strong af female leads, amazing character developments, loyalty, laugh your ass off moments, cry your eyes out moments, go right in.

Boring

Drama name is the Legends but all the time lead female's actor role shown powerful as looked like she was centric character of the drama . But so many persons had the power in the drama so I thought at the end all legends would come together and fight with the evil and among this male lead actor would be the hero as he had so many power ,with the starting of the drama his character hide devil inside him about which he didn't know and gradually his inside power made him achieved two powerful sword .so basically he would be the powerful but most of the time his character shown the weak one and his heroine save him . Actually I felt that there is a fault in the direction of the drama as well the story line ,if we see at the last episode ,so fast they complete the story which was not clear especially the very last part of the last episode and gave so many love stories a heartbreak. This part I really don't like .
Starting of the drama was very good and it was okay till he found her identity then got boring .
I chose this drama to watch because of lead male ,I like his acting especially in the drama related to some historical one .

Mixed feelings...

It's hard for me to write something without spoiler it. I have terribly mixed feelings about the story.

Great drama until episode 41. Episode 40 was probably the funniest of all.
There was one big mess at the end. I had the feeling that they spoiled something with the sequence of scenes in the penultimate episodes and they probably overlooked the fact that LZ was without a sword for a long time at one point. An even stranger last scene, where we see a scene played by siblings. WTF ??? The number of flashbacks since the second half was also annoying.

It has to be admitted that the team from the sect is amazing, especially the doctor and Sima. I do not understand why they killed Doc with such a hopeless death (and he was brilliant and his bites to little Monster was funny) Another character that I felt sorry for and which I couldn't dislike was the Little Monster. Lovely smiles and blinds ... I was constant in what I felt and in my entrances. He had as much oil on his mind as the Lords of the Hills, and it was no wonder the sect had thrived under his rule. They were handed over to the previous ruler and it is strange that so many years under his rule by no one with other sects, that in WL ordinary people are given prosperous and good. LZ did not care about him ... Especially since she had never treated him like a dog before ... any henchman made without any status in the cult, although he was at her side from the very beginning. She stood in front of the gate, just kept hitting deeply in her ass.

Overall, the story is cool, instead pleasant, at times funny, with a smokey potential, the effect of which is rewarding and Xu Kai's ideas ... More handsome ... Or rather prettier than the main character :)

whats with these english titles?

there's not really anything wrong with the drama but honestly, these English titles need to be put more effort in. I've come across more dramas than I expected that have "legend/legend of," so these titles don't appeal to me as much. It is a good thing I chose to watch this drama because it led me to the introduction of actress Bai Lu and actor Xu Kai.

Storyline: It was definitely different from other xianxia/wuxia dramas I have watched. I have nothing else to say about the storyline except that it got a little messy and fact-pacing towards the end. Some scenes were probably unnecessary and could be cut without affecting the storyline.

Cast/Acting: Bai Lu's character astonished me deeply. Although I love all the other characters Bai Lu played, Lu Zhaoyao never seems to disappoint me. I really enjoy dramas with strong female leads and this drama did it. Either walk like you're the queen or you don't care who the queen is, is how I would describe Lu Zhaoyao's personality. I would really consider Bai Lu one of the few actresses who is 倾国倾城 meaning desperately beautiful, this is because of her crying scenes in many other dramas. I also really love Lu Zhaoyao and Qin Zhiyan's interactions throughout the drama, the sisterly love. Xu Kai's character isn't bad but personally, Bai Lu's character was a bigger eye candy than his, AND OMG CAN WE TALK ABOUT JIANG WU?!! He literally brought the comedy to this show and I just absolutely love this character.

Music: I ain't complaining but one of the songs apart of this drama sounds kinda of sad when I heard the lyrics and beat but it sounds really good. These songs are really a hit in my opinion and when I had completed this show I went to find the songs and add them to my playlist.

I loved this drama! I read the beginning of the original novel and was so excited to see it finally become a drama. I was completely drawn in by the first episode. Zhao Yao was kicking ass so early on!

Bai Lu was a phenomenal Demon Sect Leader who didn’t care to be good. I loved that! She wasn’t a goody-two shoes, meek little Young Miss. But she still had heart. Such a well written character with flaws and struggles. Bai Lu portrayed Zhao Yao perfectly. I was hesitant about Xu Kai because I never watched his works before. I was blown away! People thought he was boring, but he wasn’t acting in extravagant actions. His eyes and demeanor showed so much longing and was much more detailed than what meets the eye. He always fought side by side with his lover, never for her. I definitely became a fan of Xu Kai’s after this drama.

There wasn’t only romance but friendship. Like actual FEMALE friendships! Move over, bromance! I always hated it when the other main female character hates the female lead and is the enemy. That happens all the time in C-Dramas. Xiao Yan played a great supporting character doubling as Zhao Yao and Zhi Yan. She comes to care for the Demon Zhao Yao, and Zhao Yao herself becomes soft-hearted for this innocent girl. They become good friends who help each other out when needed.

I really did like this Jiang Wu character until he got too proud and basically overpowers Zhao Yao and Mo Qing. In the later half, Zhao Yao does suffer from injuries which made her physically limited. I didn’t mind that as much as her tolerance for Jiang Wu, who annoyingly ruined her wedding, tried to harass her, and literally imprisoned her man. It was a bit out of character for her to still be laughing and enjoying his teasing. It doesn’t last long, but I still thought it was weird because Zhao Yao is ruthless towards others who hurt the people she cares about. I also found it weird when Zhao Yao had such an emotional response to his character getting hurt, like girl he was the worst!

I’m not giving the drama a full 10 because there was so much filler. The same scene with supporting characters discussing the same thing over and over. Characters who I did not care for getting 20 minutes of screen time. There were side characters I liked watching and they were mainly the friends of the main couple. The editing was annoying at most, but I didn’t mind it. The costumes and production value seems high to me so I don’t know what people are saying about it being low quality. It’s not some small web drama with poor costume designs or bad lighting.

The ending was confusing and it did make me frustrated that they edited it to be so tasteless. My all time favorite drama could have been so good. I can say it was still a good watch and worth it. OST has some good ones, but not many songs. They added a cuter and livelier song in the last episode, which I love.

Rewatch value is high for me. Give it a try if you want more female characters supporting each other, loyal male lead, strong female characters, and a bit of angst but also a bit of fluff.
