Both have this otaku-culturish thing with otaku characters solving their problems...

Both dramas have the "loser" male lead/successful female lead trope.

Similar story of male lead who's never been in a relationship finally get into one and discovers it's not all fun and games.

Fifteen-year-old Sei Saotome is the type of person who tends to fail at the most crucial times. After nearly becoming a high school drop-out, she enrolls into a school that is overambitious for her. There she meets the bold and popular Taiyou Udagawa; and the dreamy and stars obsessed, Mizuki Ootaka. After being asked by Mizuki to join the two guys in the Astronomy Club, it turns out high school life isn't as bad as she had expected.

Although Densha Otoko is more comedic, Takane no Hana is more serious, due to the overall plot of her family's story of succession and inheritance.

Both feature a rich / popular girl and unpopular unattractive guy, and both have a up beat happy ending.
