HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
I've read the novel and I have to say! the live action adaptation is PERFECT! The actors and actresses really embodies the characters into flesh, I was not expecting it at all and those subtle details are on point. Whoever did that casting THANK YOU SO MUCH!Although there are some parts in the novel that was censored in the adaptation, they did great on how to express it and show it to the public which is really amazing.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! For those who read the novel and those who doesn't.

An unforgettable experience.
If there's one BL (ok, bromance because the country is home of phobic) I would always recommend, it's this one. It's everything and more.First, the characters are perfectly cast. Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo embodied their characters so well. They became their characters. The same goes to the supporting cast.
Second, as with most danmeis, the story is extremely complex and creative. It's very interesting and you're always at the edge of your seat.
Third, the chemistry is palpable. There is absolutely zero explicit scenes but it's still romantic. Their gazes, hand touches, and their obvious attraction can't be subdued by all the censorship in the world.
Next, the music. The songs are unforgettable. WUJI is legendary. The mere first 3 notes of the opening song bring me to tears. Hell, the mere sight of that lotus brings me to tears.
Overall, it's a masterpiece. The only criticism I have is the CGI. Some scenes were rough.
Please watch this, everyone. Bear with the names, bear with the confusion. Trust me. By ep 5, you would want to binge all 50 episodes.

definitely worth the watch
this show is absolutely amazing. honestly, i was a bit iffy before starting it as i hadnt ever really taken much interest in chinese dramas previously but THE STORY IS INCREDIBLE. it is so hard to dislike any character as they are so well written. every single character has depth and flaws and i count that as a win its own. the two main leads wei wuxian and lan wangji were played by xiao zhan and wang yibo who did an amazing job bringing these characters to life.i will say however, the only faults i had with the show was that since they had a low budget the special effects were not as good as they could have been. the first two episodes start off a bit confusing but the story starts coming together around ep 3. after that, its just a rollercoaster of emotions.
the overall concept does raise interesting societal questions too. 'what is black? what is white? who is right? who is wrong?' it highlights societal judgement and views. and makes you really ponder, people might not always be as simple as they seem. there is a lot we dont know about the thoughts and morality of the people we choose to judge. people who are outcasts and looked down upon, may unexpectedly have the sweetest hearts.
after finishing the show, i even read the book to get an even better in depth idea of the characters. which is something that has never happened before. overall, if you have time and are looking for a heart wrenching story filled with plot twists, this is a must watch. i became quite a fan of this show.

A GEM
It is one of the best drama that I have ever seen! The storyline and the relationship between the characters is just phenomenal. From great casting to acting to character development to cinematography to the soundtracks, everything was on point. Each character has really played its role well in all honesty to the storyline. I never realized that it was 50 episodes long. Each episode keeps you on hook. This has really done all the justice to the novel, regardless the restrictions on showing BL scenes in China. I promise that you will never regret watching it. I hope there will be a season 2. This drama deserves all the love.

a masterpiece.
Honestly, all the symbolism the screenwriters came up with to go around the fact they can't explicitly show them together is just genius. The acting is simply outstanding, the feelings showing in the eyes even with Wangji's blank expression was one of the best actings I've ever seen. The casting was simply amazing and everyone portrayed their characters so well!
Watching it even after reading the novel did not disappoint in any ways.
Would definitely recommend it to anyone that hasn't watched it yet.

THE BEST DRAMA I'VE EVER WATCHED (not much of a spoiler here)
this is hands down the best drama i've ever watched. i actually already watched it twice LOLthe storyline is amazing, the actors are attractive asf too.
i actually listened to the ost today bro it was emotional.
this drama allowed me to find the world of wuxia bl dramas, and i am so thankful because that is now my favorite genre of c dramas ever!!
this isnt really a spoiler, but the ending made me cry (think what you will think with that information but it's probably not what you think)
if you haven't watched this, you're missing out!!
edit after like what. two years?
i've rewatched this three times already, still so so so good. the chemistry between them??? hello??? i'm still getting behind the scenes clips on my 抖音 and 小红书, alskdjfasldkfj it's a shame they probably will never have a collab again. i didn't think that the fans were being genuine when they said that they think they're more than friends, but after seeing the behind the scenes clips and comparing them to other situations that each of the actors are in... they're completely different people when they're with one another. yi bo never purposely touches someone (like grabs someone by their hand or puts his arm on someone else's shoulder or anything) but the amount of times he's had physical contact with xiao zhan on purpose or on accident during filming, interviews, etc. is like not countable. he's also usually really cold to everyone and doesn't really talk but he always had so much to say to xiao zhan in the clips i saw. also everytime that they went on stage together, yi bo would always have his head turned to look at xiao zhan, LIKE TELL ME IT ISN'T REAL. and as for xiao zhan, he's usually super polite and would like bow or shake hands with everyone he sees, but in the clips i saw behind the scenes, the two would always play fight like little kids, chase eachother around set, and they would even curse at each other (jokingly). there's also scenes of them on shows being jealous when the other is talking or having physical contact with another person (idk if it's real or not, could be edited) but it seems very real to me. SO YEAH. i'm officially also a part of 博君一肖 cp 粉。
also i still hate the ending i need a better one like right now i can't accept this one. they literally get married in the novel so can china like take the bans off lmao

“I used to think of you as my soulmate.” “I still am.” - Lan Wang Ji and Wei Wu Xian
Firstly, I would like to start my review by saying I'm not very good at English so please excuse any errors I make.I first watched The Untamed around a year ago and I absolutely enjoyed it. I re-watched it this week and I have to say, even though I've already watched it, it felt like it was my first time watching it! Even though I know what is going to happen, I still got very excited.
I absolutely love poetry, foreshadowing and ironic phrases, and this had all of it. I am currently reading the novel and I must say, the writing makes my excited to read new chapters!
Wei Ying- I will start by saying, this man is amazing! Like he could be so evil but not so evil at the same time. Wei Ying's character was written so well. His trauma and how he uses humor as a way to hide his trauma was all written so well. Hats off to the Xiao Zhan who was able to portray his character really well.
Lan Zhan- I am not really a big fan of his character but I must say, I love how Wang Yibo was able to portray the characters emotion just through his eyes. One of the things I admire about Lan Zhan is how he never gave up in finding his soulmate. He stood by Wei Ying's side even though he might be hated by a whole lot of people.
I don't think I have anything else to say. I can't find the right words to tell how much I adore this series. In short i just want to say, if you are hesitant to watch this drama, don't be! This is a great drama! But, if you don't like gore and bloodshed, I do not think this is for you.
Thank You loves!

I get it, I TOTALLY GET IT
First off, the story is so engaging, I would have never thought that I would pick up a 50 episode drama and finish it as quickly as I did with this and even feel empty after doing so. At no point did the show feel draggy or boring, each episode was loaded with quality content. It might take you the first 4-6 episodes to understand what’s fully going on in the show but once you’re hooked there’s no getting out! (Also, in spite of scenes with questionable CGI, how can the show be so full of picturesque shots? I can only think of giving this drama a 10).The show has a great story but it doesn’t depend on just the events of the story, but the actions and emotions of well-fleshed out characters in bringing its brilliance into play- not just the main but even the support cast. What helps is the great acting of the cast and Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan ofcourse deserve a special mention. While the latter has to depict a lot of emotions with passion (which he nails) as his character goes through a lot, the former has to follow the road of depicting his pain and happiness through an excellent understated performance.
Talking about the 2 main characters, their chemistry was explosive! Endearing glances, minor touches, body language and loving smiles toward one another were enough for the viewers to understand they are not just ‘friends’. I have no idea how they passed censorship (especially after seeing ep 14) but their subtle affection for one another comes full circle by the end.
I never thought I’d write a review for this show since it has a collection of positive reviews, a great rating on this site and general praises all around. However if you have been scared to begin watching this due to the hype or the censorship- don’t be! Just blindly take a step and watch it!

I confirm the hype!
I saw this drama on a lot of top recommended lists and was a bit weary of the idea of a censored gay love story. The first time I tried watching this series a year or two ago, I couldn’t get into it. I watched the first episode and was like, “huh?”But hey, 2022 came and I saw this was still high on the rankings so I gave it another try and MAN. The love for this drama is so well deserved.
I lost sleep on weeknights when I had to work the next morning because I wanted to power through these 50 episodes. I have never been a true fanatic of anything - re-watching dramas is not something I do normally.
But after finishing the series in a matter of days, I went back to rewatch the first episodes and the most emotional and touching moments of this drama. Going back, the first episodes were so easy to watch. I found myself watching fan videos on YouTube, reading the comments of people saying they kept coming back to this drama. I found myself checking the Twitter tag for witty tweets about the characters. I even stayed up until 6 am one day because I wanted to read parts of the novel. I am still needing to recover from sleep deprivation.
This drama was BEAUTIFUL. The music is stunning - I’ve found myself humming it while I stroll through the park. I definitely teared up a few times. The characters had multiple layers so I even could empathize with the some of the villains. It was a ride of emotions for me - from feeling giddy over a glance, shocked from the deaths, vindicated with the revenge, angered by the injustice. I loved it. The chemistry between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji was 100% there. I am not someone who specifically seeks out BL stories and I don’t ever recall strongly shipping a BL couple but Wangxian is amazing.
This was a welcome escape from reality. 10/10, probably one of my favorites of all time.
