It is a modern adult comedy wrapped in an historical legend, and a stageplay wrapped in a screenplay. The scenes are presented like a stage play, complete with musical numbers and solo dances. The actors are fantastic but the stageplay presentation style may seem 'overdone' on the small screen. Viewers familiar with theater (or even Bollywood movies) will understand and appreciate the theatrical presentation, which adds an otherworldly quality befitting of a legendary tale.

The comedy is laugh-out-loud funny, perfectly over the top and delightfully ridiculous. Lots of in-your-face adult humor but it is delivered well with perfect timing - never seeming trashy or juvenile.

The heart-warming moments are a bit lukewarm, unfortunately. We understand what they 'getting at' but it always falls just short of its goal. This minor problem leaves an obvious hole in the film, which probably explains its poor reception.

I would not recommend watching this movie. The plot and a lot of the scenes are crazy. Its maybe good for a cheap laugh. I was curious about this movie because of Bong Tae Gyu who is a host for Incarnation and it was as bad as they said it was on the talk show.

The things I was surprised about and liked were the dancing and 'synchronized swimming'. Those scenes were pretty amazing but was sort of out of place in such a bad movie. The music was not too bad either.

Final words: Niagara Falls > Hydrant > Garden Hose
(You will totally get it if you watch the movie)

Hilarious!

That was hilarious! It totally feels like a folk story, a legend of those whispered around the village fire when the children have gone to sleep. It could also be a daydream of a Korean living in a foreign country who has been taunted by locals for his... ehm... size.
The costumes, the behaviour, everything... don't expect historical accuracy. People, it's fantasy, let's not forget that. So don't wonder why skirts are short and why a Joseon-time girl dances classical ballet half-naked near a village pond, or why the village men perform an Esther Williams number in the said pond. Yes, it's over-the-top, but that was its whole point! And yet it still manages to celebrate empathy and solidarity and even romantic love.
Thoroughly recommended if you want to chase away any stress or sadness. But not to people who take satire seriously, who get offended easily and who are champions of political correctness.

Again watched this to fulfill the Joseon requirement on the 2018 watch challenge. It is straight up comedy Mel Brooks style (for those who are familiar) with the sight gags coming hard and fast (no pun intended ...really). There is also lessons that are learned in hindsight. I am sure there were villages that something similar happen when all the good men got sent to war.

If sex makes you squeamish do not watch this. If you hate middle school boy humor, you may not like this.

Acting: Being able to pull off this script w/o busting out laughing every scene gives them props in my book.

Music: there is singing, but traditional chant singing. And dancing.

I give this an 8 because I thought i would play it in the background and do something else and found myself glued to the screen instead.
