I decided to watch this in May due to the fact that I had to write a research paper about Japanese-American history. Being said, this short tv special was a great inside to what it was like to be Japanese-American from the start of the 20th century. Each episode tells a different story and though it may seem educational it was really extremely interesting. I loved how they showed things that really happened back during World War 2. Gave me an idea of what my family went through back then.

Human drama, war and historical.
99 years of love (Japanese-Americans) is a story about a man who migrated long ago to the land of opportunities and peace and love (America) where he finds love and a steady job, everyone's dream.
There you see the bigotry and injustice he faces in a land not his own BEFORE the world war 2 and as soon as the war starts, the Japanese Americans are sent to isolation camps (dark part of American history that no one even talks about for some reason).
A good educational drama with a lot of heart, but still makes you feel very uneasy, how Americans of Japanese descents were treated, before the war it was not good, but after the war started it became pure oppression, this drama is an eye opener on this subject.
Cons: the story is told only from the Japanese people point of view, I would have liked more on the Americans point of view. I wouldn't say this drama is epic or perfect but it's damnnnn good.
This is one of the family human dramas that have to be seen by many people.

Since I've watched movie "Come See the Paradise" as a child, I found subject of Japanese-Americans during II WW interesting and I'm glad finally watched drama about this topic.

I've found story of 99-nen no Ai - as said before - interesting. Maybe only minus would be that whole history was showed only from Japanese point of view, but on the other hand it make sense as it was family saga of Japanese family, who emigrated to USA.

Can't say much about acting or music, as I didn't much attention to them. Also from my personal point of view the whole series was way too long (2h for each episode) and was bored at times. Rewatch Value for me is very low - coz 1) I don't like to rewatch and 2) episodes are too long for my taste.

Overall, if you are interested in the topic and want to watch family saga (pretending to be documentary ) - it will be a good watch.
