Wonderful slow burning romance with characters that stay true to their personalities

I looooooved this show. The love story and romance is all developed through actions and that made watching all the more powerful. I also found it refreshing how well the characters were delineated, and neither the ML or the FL suddenly changed their personalities for the romance. They were both very stubborn, both incredibly intelligent, and unapologetically straightforward. I loved how made mistakes, both hurt one another, both redeemed themselves and went to great lengths to save one another. The love is very clearly present, even if neither (especially the FL) says it outright or admits it. It's in the actions. So much love. I was rooting for Xian Song the whole way, and finished the show satisfied. Definitely recommend!!!

Cases where the most itersting part of the story

The story centers on a female coroner named Ran Yan. She is saved in the first episode by an assassin named Su Fu. While trying to make money she offers to help investigate the body of a murder victim for the local magistrate Xiao Song, The story takes the two of them through a series of cases with Su Fu coming in and out. The cases involve the real cause of Ran Yan's mother's death all leading to a conspiracy to take over the throne. Along the way Ran Yan sometimes likes Su Fu and sometimes likes Xiao Sung,The character of Ran Yan is interesting as a strong female. She is at her best working with Xiao Song who immediately respects her talent and intelligence, The two characters play off of one another so well. My concern with the character is that while she is very smart as a coroner, she is a little too naive, How many times can one person be kidnapped and have to be saved,Su Fu is the typical stoic assassin, bad boy character. He really is using Ran Yan for a lot of the the time, but he also truly cares about her and wants to save her (constantly)Xiao Song is an extremely intelligent, honest, hard-working and noble person. He respects Ran Yan for her brain and really loves everything about her, even the less flattering shrew she can be,In general the acting was good. The actress playing Ran Yan was fine, not spectacular, but she was fine. I wonder if her acting made it hard to like the character at some points in the story or if that was really the intention. The actor playing Su Fu is stoic and that is about all he does. I have been stoic done better (watch Bloody Romance!) By far the best actor and the person carrying the show was Xiao Song. The actor was great in every scene - whether it was him mentally figuring out the case, playfully fighting with Ran Yan, suffering, or any of the emotions he want through loving a person that openly was hostile to him and rejecting him regularly, Any scene with Xiao Song was well acted. That may be another reason why the character of Ran Yan could be annoying, cause she should clearly pick the one that makes you feel the most,I have to give a special kudos to Sang Chen the scholar how loves Ran Yan and is basically clueless but in a nice way, and Bai Yi who is Xiao Song's very loyal assistant and bodyguard. The two stole a lot of the scenes that they were in. I do not want to give spoilers, but the one scene between Xiao Song and Bai Yi is very touching (and funny). I found them more likable the 2 of the 3 leads.Would I watch it again, maybe because it is only 36 episodes but it is not at the top of my re-watch list.
