This is not Romeo and Juliet!

Firstly this is not your usual love story drama, so if you're not okay with more realistic movies, you shouldnt watch it.
People nowdays are so used to dramas with the perfect ending, with all the "They Lived Happily Ever After" that they forget real life is not always that easy.
This is one of the good things about this movie, they tried to be more REALISTIC.
I got a lot more to say but don't want to spoil anything.
All i gotta say is: watch it if you're okay with realism.

I do think all the "fantasy" scenes were kinda too funny to be taken seriously, they could have done something better about that tbh

A girls love dorama. But again, does it worth?

This was pretty much average. It started okay but soon turned out to be 'meh'.
There was no chemistry between the characters (except maybe between the pair of friends: the main heroine and the short-haired girl. Sorry, I am writing this review right after watching this dorama but I don´t even remember their names anymore).

The tomboy-like senior was lifeless (was I watching a human or a doll?). I understand they chose her because of the Romeo role she would take, but her character kinda of spoiled the whole experience, which is a shame cause otherwise this dorama had potential for a bit more.

As for the ending, it was not happy nor sad; maybe bittersweet? But in general I would say the ending was kinda of okay-ish - you know when you finished watching something and then "oh, is that it? Well, okay". It was in general an "empty" dorama? If I can put it like that.

The scenes I could say I enjoyed most were those of the girl taking the role of the director. We don´t know what was on her mind (although we could have an overall idea), so those scenes were bringing a bit of suspense/tension to the dorama.

I don´t think this dorama is 'The Realistic Dorama'. In my opinion it´s nothing special. The "Romeo and Juliet" idea is not new, and it´s used here and then as an excuse for girls love / shoujo-ai. I believe the charm of this dorama is the setting, which is in (middle/high)school.

CONCLUSION: If you are just looking for a simple girls love / shoujo-ai to enjoy without having to think much and don´t minding the lack of story/plot, then this might please you. Otherwise this dorama is 'skippable'.

PS.: I might sound a bit harsh/crude here, but this is just a straightforward way of conveying my opinion without beating around the bush xD
PS2.: Please, consider just the overall score. Although story and music weren´t memorable at all, so instead of choosing a low random score, I decided to choose 1.

An attempt was made, but unfortunately falls flat.

Imagine if, after Rosaline scorned Romeo, she suddenly decided that she was jealous of Romeo's new love affair with Juliet and went out of her way to pick on the poor girl instead of just talking about her feelings... You still wouldn't have the plot of this movie, but it's the closest you're going to get!

Instead, this is a collection of melancholy moments that use Romeo & Juliet as set dressing to convey a high school story about love and loneliness. Typically with media centered on high school kids putting on a Shakespeare play, I end up wishing that the entire story could have just been the play because the final act production tends to be far more interesting than the character interactions leading up to it - and, while the version presented in this movie is no great shakes, it brought forth a lot more entertainment than anything else the writing had to offer.

The pacing is deader than Romeo and Juliet, but at least I can appreciate that the characters are allowed to be awkward kids. There were more than a few moments that didn't feel properly explained either through subtext or exposition, but the second the movie suddenly broke into a stop-motion segment it officially lost me.

Admittedly, the story clearly tries to take Shakespeare's dialogue and juxtapose it with the feelings of present day teenagers in an effort to show that the more things change the more they stay the same. It's unfortunate that the movie doesn't seem to show any deep understanding of the play's themes, but evidently that wasn't the point. Just like Seon Hwa, the audience is expected to float along in a haze for the nearly two-hour runtime as the characters contemplate what it means to be in love.

Whether a tragedy or a comedy, I just wish I had been allowed to see an interesting love story unfold, but there was so little romantic chemistry anywhere to be found. The main friend group had the most believable chemistry and were more enjoyable to watch whenever they were casually hanging out.

Overall, the cinematography tries its best to be pretty and sometimes succeeds. It just couldn't make up for the rest of the elements not coming together despite everyone's best efforts.

Decent.

I liked this more than some of the other reviews I saw on this movie.

First of all, I didn't find out that it was Roh Jeong Eui till after, but??? I love her acting and didn't know she was in a girl-love movie, so that was a pleasant surprise.

Onto the actual review, I like that this movie has some different elements than the usual K-romance. I also like that this movie was realistic; everything ending happily and perfectly gets old sometimes. This movie was also lowkey sad, but I like sad, so I didn't mind that. I like the emotion portrayed, and the plot was good too.

Overall, the movie was not bad; I liked it, an okay watch. Watch if you like the trope of unrequited girl love or realistic media.

Very meh

Okay so. Before I get in, just keep in mind I just dropped the movie and I even gave it so many chances to the point I couldn't stand it anymore.

First of all, the characters were just so 'non-human'. Let me put it better : I felt like I was watching dolls moving. I don't know why especially when the cast is composed of well-known actors that I also love...
The 'tomboy-poker face senior everyone seems to be smitten for' (already forgot their names...) was just roaming around, playing with the girls' hearts knowing damn well the 'power' she has on their feelings... After that, she would do : Nothing throughout the whole movie...
The girl she is in love with (apparently lol) is a character I just hate. She litteraly skipped her friend (who she knew had an obvious crush on the 'juliet girl'/tomboy) after getting close to her... Like even if I don't really like the idea of her dating her friend's crush, I would have respected her choice if she had at least kept in touch with her friend and not be sticking ALWAYS with the other girl like she's doing.

Then let's talk about the chemistry. Of course, it's a romance movie so obviously there would be chemistry huh ? Well not here.
I litteraly don't undestand how they ended up loving each other when all they do is stare at each other most of the time with the 'juliet girl' showing no emotions and the other girl always smiling. It felt both so odd and plain to watch these scenes. Plus from what I saw (I stopped at 1:02:38), the plot was really lacking...
Even Youtube low budgets-series do better atp. I was very disappointed since GLs are really rare and sadly, often low budgets if there are any but I decided to give it a chance. I now regret my decision.
I mean the 'juliet girl' has even more chemistry with her male friend (my fav character in all this) than she has with Ha-nam (the tomboy girl, I think it's her name...?).

To end this, I really felt like I wasted my time on this. It was a 'plot-less' movie imo.
Btw shoutout to this scene where the 'shy girl/romeo girl ?' was laying on a bench, her face litteraly covered by her friend's skirt. It got me like 'wth?'.

Also I haven't seen that much of the character of that girl directing the musical but I don't know, I like her. She seems to like the 'shy girl' but I might be wrong.
I don't know what happened between 'shy girl's sister and the female director but they seem to have a background together now that I think of it

Plz I wanna know about what the two things I made hypothesies on below so feel free to spoil me lmao. Also I didn't intended to be cruel, if you think I was, in my review. i'm just writing about my feelings right after my watching session.
