It's Caesar Wu, so it's always a 10+ drama for me
It is my second Caesar Wu'd drama after General's Lady. I guess I am very much bias to CW, so without any doubt I score almost 10+, it just a music wasn't as impressive as the General's Lady's songs that he sung. (By the say, he is a great singer too.).He is as handsome as usual and his clam and mature acting really attract me in this drama as same as General's Lady. And chemistry with female main roll, Wang Yuw En, is great, but it wasn't as good as with Tang Min in General's Lady. But it is still one of my favorite drama by Caesar Wu.

Not much of a content, but otherwise a sweet, short drama
The plot is pretty much the same as hundreds of c-drama shows out there, so you know exactly what will happen along the way. There isn't much of a surprise or twist, but the story flowed effortlessly. The chemistry of both leads are also very good, and the friendship is heartwarming. I love the ost too, especially 'Proud of me'. It did have a Sungkyunkwan Scandal vibe as well. The only flaw I saw was the emotional scenes that were acted over the top. It made me cringe a little, but overall, it was a nice watch when you are bored and got nothing else to do.Was this review helpful to you?
Great drama
I think this drama is similar with the old korean drama Shngkyunkwan Scandal. Because the female lead cast is almost similar with the korean one.The story, the casts, the cinematography, the music, all of them are awesome.
This drama is worth it to watch. And the casts, especially all men cast are totally fit and georgous. Love this drama anyway♥️💜

Good to pass time
If you are looking for a series to pass time, this is a good one. Personally I don’t think the chosen actress for the female lead fit the role. It could be her facial expression or brashness when she’s talking but I believe this series would have been a lot better with a different actress.The story is typical but I enjoyed that it highlighted that the success of the female lead is through her friends’ support.
Ending is alright.
It’s not anything exceptional or unforgettable. It’s a good watch. I did fast forward a few times.

The actors deserved better!
I really like the plot "girl disguised as a boy to enter a single-sex academy", but I'm disappointed with this series.The very, very exaggerated "comedy" tone, especially to ridicule the FL (questionable view of women) of the early episodes, is meant to be funny, but it quickly becomes unbearable. The FL character is silly, inconsistent, unrealistic!!

The tone becomes more serious then, but the events are badly brought, and the talent of the actors is not sufficient to compensate for the badly written story and the very clumsy realization. Damage !!

J'aime beaucoup le plot "fille déguisée en garçon pour entrer dans une académie non mixte" mais je suis déçue de cette série. Le ton "comédie" très très exagéré, spécialement pour tourner la FL en ridicule (vision des femmes questionnable) des premiers épisodes, est censé être drôle, mais il devient vite insupportable. Le personnage de la FL est idiot, non cohérent, non réaliste !!

Le ton devient plus sérieux ensuite, mais les évènements sont mal amenés, et le talent des acteurs n'est pas suffisant pour compenser la story mal écrite et la réalisation très maladroite. Dommage !!

JUST GIVE IT A WATCH
So, typically I don't write any review but for this I am going for it. Just one word "INCREDIBLE".Literally, this is the best thing I have ever watched. This is the first drama that gave me goosebumps in the last 3 episodes. I started this drama for caeser wu but the fact that I fell in love with every single character. They have amazing direction and I really want to raise my hands to who wrote this. This drama not only tells about a group of students but also the fact that despite of having different personalities they coup-up with each other so well. Their bickering fights and their kind nature can overwhelm every single one. It is really worth watching. Its worth your time.
I loved liu yi chang and caeser wu as despite of having cold personality at first their warm heart will make you fall in love with them. Uvin Wang ..... the only thing I loved about her is her never giving up character. Xie Bin Bin and Qi Pei Xing are the sweetest one in this drama. Overall I love how they support each other through the drama.
Lastly, kudos to the production team.

This drama start good, middle ok, but dive down in the end. One drama that start the drama with 1 plot, but through out the series like loosing it's grip to original story & just grab anything to hold the story. Ok. Let me explainedThe story begin with Shen Yi Yi (YY) that replace her friend, Shen Die Yi (DY), as the bride, with the hidden purpose of looking for DY real identity. The marriage itself between DY & Tang Jiu Hua (JH) not really typical arrange marriage, they have feeling for each other & because YY don't want to take DY place in JH family, she tried to escape several times & failed. After arrived at JH house, JH said he already register YY to Shangyi Guan (academy) & that they also can do the investigation regard DY identity in the academy. So to delay the marriage between YY & JH, YY agreed to enroll to the academy. In the academy she found friend & companion & their story begin. With time role, they found out each of their companion has story & secret to tell.
From the summary I wrote above do you found the problem to begin with...? Haha...
1. They seems completely forgot that YY want to uncover the identity of DY in the first place. Through out the story they really rarely discuss about this. YY never really seriously investigate about the pendant that DY leave behind. She just seems to enjoy her day at the academy & all the problem that raise within the academy itself. Yeah some of you can argue that it's hard to find because the secret is in the palace, etc... But if that the problem they can short the story, so they don't really need to tell the story of her academy days & just jump to graduation & her station in the palace, etc...
2. The student (or you can say YY & her companion) really involve in the politic issue & many strange case which should not be for consumption of student. Haha...
But at the same time ironically, the days in the academy is really fit with the title, The Chang'an Youth. Yeah so this drama really about the young people in Chang'an.
Overall just like Apple Eye, me too also lost interest midway the series. And in the end I just don't know wish this drama to be longer so it can be more clear or not, cause I feel if this longer I might drop this

The Chang'An Youth ended so suddenly. I'm gonna miss them so much especially the Crown Prince who stayed single at the end of the show.. (I'm not going to miss Uwen because I believe she's preparing for another drama and I'm going to see her soon, Jiayou!!)
Story..
- Though the story ended happily for the Five Scholars of Shangyi School, it honestly doesn't give me complete satisfaction. In the beginning, I was preparing myself for a very deep and intense storyline since they are all scholars and I'm pretty sure, there will be a lot of investigations against the bad men who tries to make conspirancies. There are like that, in fact, but it's not too dramatic and detailed. The thrill is also not there since the 5 didn't experience so much hardship that can make the viewers cry outta hell (though Zian's experience in losing his father is a hard fate, but still, the storyline is light). It's like they are always successful and bright and amazing. They don't have flaws, only secrets, but it's not really convincing. The antagonists also died so easily. They didn't even make a successful plan against the empire, they're a failure, and it's making me hang. Though I want the protagonist to succeed in the end, as a viewer, I also want thrill. I also want to see how brilliant and evil other characters are. LOL!!! (My bad). The friendship and romance part, is sweet and inspiring, somehow.
Acting/Cast..
- Of course, Uvin Wang is definitely perfect for the role. She's been awesome and amazing in Superstar Academy and Novoland, The Castle in the Sky 2, and she's really impressive in the Chang'An Youth. (She can't make me her fangirl if she's not). She's so cool when in guise-as-a-man; her gorgeousness as a lady is given. She's the first one who encouraged me to watch this show.
-My 2nd favorite cast is Lin Xin Yuan. As a fanatic of "The Untamed", I'm really happy to see its cast on other show, the same happiness seeing Qi Pei Xin in 'The Chang'An Youth'. Though the attitude he carried on the 2 mentioned shows are different, he's really cute. Cute to the point that I cannot see him as a contender of ZiAn in Yiyi's love but I found him as a cute little brother. He and Yiyi seriously don't have a chemistry and I really find him cute again as a crown prince. I'm not used for his sterness, but because I find him cute, I'm going to consider hihihi.
-Caesar Wu, Xie Bin Bin and Liu Yi Chang also played their respective roles perfectly. I'm kinda accustomed in Caesar Wu's being stiff and careful in the show since I've watched Meteor Garden 2018 and Zian and Ximen is somehow the same in behaviour (I think), while it's my first time seeing Bin Bin and Liu Yi Chang. Bin Bin is fitted in being funny and entertaining, he's so good with it. That's why when I first time saw him on Beautiful Flower Reborn as an angry guy, I was kinda amazed. He's really good.. Yi Chang's soft and sweet face, on the other hand, also fits the character of being indestructible and carefree. I just don't like his obsession with Rou Rou (or is it Rou Rou that I don't like). I think Rou Rou is too old for him, hihihi. Whatever
-ANyway, the cast played their roles well. Kudos also to Han Junyi, he made my heart boil everytime he plots something heinous but he's pitiful when he died. He also made me moved when he's recalling his life with the late emperor, when he became fond of Yiyi and when he's with his daughter. I feel sad for his destiny. Huhuhuhu!!!!!!!
Music..
I'm fond of Yi Chang's "Proud of Me" and Caesar's "A Dream Out Of A Reach". Salute!
Rewatch Value...
- The story is light-weight and the actors playing it are fabulous. They are honestly the reasons why I'm fond of it. It's not boring, I swear. It's laughable and cute. There's also a part where I screamed so loud when Xiao Bai witnessed something, twice. Twas insane! It's a drama worth relieving of stress, especially during this pandemic.

Sungkyunkwan Scandal Knock off
I started watching this for caesar wu and it began pretty good and I was interested! However after the first couple eps it got boring . This drama gave off Sungkyunkwan Scandal vibes and was very similar in the characters and how they were showcased. Personally, I didn’t even like Sungkyunkwan Scandal so this drama was even worse cause it felt like a knock off lmao specifically the role of the sword guy who couldn’t compare to yoo ah in’s protrayal In Sungkyunkwan Scandal. The drama also centred around the school mainly rather than the story of her dead friend’s backstory which made it lag cause I didn’t really care. However, It was decently funny. If you liked Sungkyunkwan Scandal maybe you’ll like this?Was this review helpful to you?
Top hilights for me:
* The actors and actresses are super attractive. I'm so enamored with Zi'An and Dugu Muxue. Both are ridiculously attractive IMO and I love their expressions.
* Laugh out loud funny. I like how lighthearted the show is, and I it makes me laugh pretty much every episode.
* Uplifiting. I find the drama really cheerful, since there are a bunch of mini arcs and each one wraps up fairly nicely.
Lowlights
* I didn't love the first episode 1. I found the whole premise a little wonky and hard to digest, but once the actual story began of testing into the school and the friendship between the 5 main characters, I was hooked.
