So I’m confused...why are we hating on this drama? I had to create a whole reddit post to ask people if I should watch this. Most people told me to save my time, but, against everyone’s better judgement, I went and watched it anyway. And I loved it? I’ve heard so many people say it’s a trainwreck, advertisement-saturated, no-charisma, rushed-romance, plot-holes-galore, confusing mess of a drama, but I must have missed something, because I didn’t really encounter any of those things when I was watching it. I may be a tad biased because Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun are some of my most favorite actors (Still can’t get over Goblin and Legend of the Blue Sea *sigh*) but I thought this drama was actually incredibly high quality. While I do admit that the romance could have been paced better, I understand that the author was just trying to allow for their affection to develop quicker for the sake of the plot. Because the main story was not about them falling in love; it was about their relationship across two separate worlds and their fight against a power hungry lunatic. It’s kind of hard to pull off that type of story unless the leads fall in love quicker than what we are used to. As for product placement, I honestly found it extremely entertaining. To be honest, I didn’t even really notice it at first until it dawned on me that usually kdramas blur out logos that they are not sponsored by. Nonetheless, I thought their chicken dates were absolutely adorable and helped move the plot forward rather than provide an unnecessary distraction from the main story. The charisma between the leads was off the charts, so I have no idea what y’all are talking about. This is one of my favorite kdrama couples ever, and I rarely give a 10 star rating to a drama, so color me impressed. I definitely hopped on that Woo Do Hwan bandwagon and loved him in every single scene that he was in. The man is a genius. To be honest, there’s so many things I want to say about this drama that made it amazing for me, but I just can’t put it into words. The character development was some of the best I had seen in a while. I expected the ending to be horrible judging by the reviews, but it was actually very easy to understand and accept. As I said in another review, science fiction dramas are bound to have some plot holes, and while I felt that there were some things that weren’t entirely explained to me, I’m content enough with the ending, and I don’t feel that the discrepancies actually matter as much as some people think they do. I thought the ending was absolutely perfect, and I appreciated how the drama spent the last 30 minutes tying up loose ends and showing us what happened after the leads finally reunited. Overall, if you don’t think too deeply about any of the science-fiction aspects of the drama, you have a wonderful drama on your hands. I loved every single character (Yes, even the Prime Minister. I thought she was freaking badass) and I definitely plan on rewatching this drama in the future because of the wonderful blend of romance, action, and science fiction that it had. Unique 2020
I don't know why a lot of people criticizing this drama.For ad?! After reading their reviews only I got, what they're telling ad's that it's used here. And those are not really relevant in the story line.
First of all I get a Hollywood style vibe from this Drama. It was actually perfect in it's every aspect. Acting, OST, Story, Production and Plot. It was really a unique story so far.
The OST are really good and especially, Gravity (I'm using this one as my caller tune) and Maze.
In Acting aspect I've seen a lot of reviews criticizing Lee Min-ho I don't get this why?! He's perfect for his role as both wise and spoiled King. Hats off to those are performing double roles. I was wondering how they choose the cast?!! Bcz each and everyone got perfect role and they did their best.

Top class drama
This drama used Korea's leading script writer. The production values are at cinema movie standard throughout. The monetary cost of some of the scenes is way beyond almost all other dramas. The plot is tangled and can be taken at different levels. Mathematics is a theme and Einstein's theories are referred to in the set up of the story and this is a clue to understanding the plot. Better educated audience members will appreciate this drama more fully than those who are not. But it doesn't matter, because the show has a strong fun element, frequently poking fun at itself, so if like me you are not strong on Einsteinian spacetime math, it is still enjoyable and you can get the gist. However, this is hardly your average k-drama TV. That is why it did less well when it aired than expected. It is too high order for the average TV audience.The casting is perfect. Lee Min Ho's screen presence in every shot for the whole series is strong. The director used Minho's beautiful smooth deep voice like a sound track throughout. His voice becomes almost mesmerizing as it is seldom out of one's ears for long. This is a unique and unprecedented feature in a k-drama and it is a strong point giving a fairly subliminal aural continuity throughout the episodes. It was very soothing too. This drama is a truimphant showcase of Minho's acting talent and it is impossible to imagine any other Korean actor able to perform so naturally and commandingly and with that voice.
Goeun has a very difficult job. First she is Minho's love interest when as i have just said his brilliance is shining and any co-star is likely to look second-rate or worse against him. Goeun also has to play a tough cop at the same time as a girl Minho, a King, would fall for, plus she has to play a part in 2 timezones and a double of herself in both timezones. Most Korean actresses couldn't get near acting this part. She gets better with each episode. She deserves an award for her achievement. She is the emotional epicentre of the series and her diverse part compliments and off-sets Minho's needing to stay magisterial all the way through. Although, hilariously, Goeun knocks him of his perch quite a few times!
This is the most postmodern hybridized drama ever made. It is a historical, political, romance, melodrama, comedy, farce, action, pychological drama all at mixed up, sometimes doing two or even three genres simultaneously. For an audience that can see and appreciate this it is easily the best k-drama ever made. But also, the intelligence of the drama was its weakness and why it wasn't able to retain a wide audience despite the large sums spent on the hype and marketing before and after it started airing, and why it's not a drama that the average viewer is going to like, because its going to be over their head.

Masterpiece!
Everything is great...Ignore what you heard about this drama...just give a chance until ep 5 and I am sure you will enjoy...If you want to make your brain work, HERE YOU GO....
And romance:
Great chemistry between this two....they are adult and you should expect adult behaviors...and it was not rush because Lee Gon was looking for her for 25 years and about tae eul, falling in love with him took almost for months...
Writing, acting, editing and cinematography are awesome!!!!
After all, if you want watch a different kdrama and use you brain, WATCH AND ENJOY!!!!

The idea of the plot is brilliant, i can guarantee that she totally did a great research before makin this drama. The casts selection is also good, i cant imagine another male actor taking this role as Lee Gon instead of Lee Minho (it applies to other roles too). It looks like they were born for those roles.Well, for some people, the plot might be confusing. But if youre smart enough, i think it wont be a problem, you'll like it! Kim Eunsook wrapped this drama so neatly. She gives us the clear and clean closure (+ beautiful ending for everyone). Ah, and for some people the PPL (product placement for ads) are a bit annoying, but it's not a big deal for me since it doesnt affect the plot of the story. Overall, i really love this drama no matter what!! Great job, Kim Eunsook writernim!

Beautiful Star Crossed Love Story
Guys, this show absolutely, completely, and totally wrecked me. WRECKED ME. It is sure to satisfy the most die hard romantic with dynamic leads, stunning cinematography, and angsty romance. Let me count all the ways this show had me falling in love.❤ I wasn’t 100% invested in the romance between charming Lee Gon and pragmatic Jeong Tae Eul initially. Their chemistry increased the more time they spent together, each of their moments one more step toward building an epic romance. I felt their ending fit with the overall narrative of the story.
❤ I loved Lee Gon so much. He was smart, charming, and incredibly nerdy. It never felt like he looked down on anyone despite him being pretty much the smartest person in the room.
❤ The visuals and cinematography are breathtaking. The production set a romantic and intriguing tone with beautiful twinkling lights, seductive fog, an endlessly array of cozy sweaters. Like, seriously, I just need the catalog they used to buy all those sweaters. The CGI wasn’t always great, but it was probably the best I’ve seen in a long time.
❤ The supporting cast gave me all the feels. I could not be happier with the secondary characters in this series, particularly Kang Shin Jae and Jo Yeong. Honestly, Jo Yeon was MVP for this series. While all of the actors did some sort of double duty as characters existing in multiple universes, Woo Do-hwan’s performance was phenomenal no matter his character.
❤ I couldn’t resist the story. Typically, I hate time travel and parallel universe stories. Trying to keep track of all the threads over multiple universes and time lines can be a bit exhausting. I found this story to be utterly fascinating as it threaded together elements of mystery, science fiction, and romance.

Loved it!
This is one of the best shows I have seen this year. A very good sci-fi drama with wonderful acting by the cast. I do understand some character development has not been done in a proper manner but overall you will surely enjoy it.If we watch carefully there are small hints depicted by the director which took the story ahead beautifully. I loved the closed ending and not leaving it to the public.
This is definitely not for people who do not enjoy such genre or such concepts or want more chemistry to be shown.
Personally I loved it alot. And I do understand people have different tastes and choices. So that's alright.

The acting by every single person in this show is amazing. From Goblin we already know that Kim Go Eun is a fantastic actress but she is absolutely brilliant as Jeong Tae Eul in King.
As Lee Min Ho's come back drama after being in the military, this was a great show to showcase his acting skills, in the heartbreaking moments, you cry with him and in the more light-hearted scenes you laugh and just want nothing but happiness for his character Lee Gon.
Woo Do Hwan as both Jo Yeong and Jo Eun Sop, was amazing, before this, I had only seen him in The Great Seducer, in which he was amazing but he truly shines in the double role here. Absolutely deserves all the praise he is getting and I am now going to look into more of his dramas.

Honestly if I had to recommend a kdrama for someone who had never watched one before, this would be it. A high budget, well-casted, well-written, exciting show that keeps you on the edge of your seat eager for more. It’s too good, too good!!
The romance was top tier. I'm aware it's been a topic of controversialness, but for me - Jung Tae Eul x Lee Gon are one of my new favourite couples. Especially the scene at the end of Ep 11. Had me on the edge of my seat!! That scene >>> any boring love scene ever made

One of the highlights in the beginning? When we're in the Kingdom of Corea and people were just shocked cause no one is allowed to touch the king but he lets Tae Eul touch him HAHAHAHA
Considering his well-known 'I don’t like being touched by people', he is certainly shouting out loud here to everybody around him 'I'm crazy about this woman and I just want to touch her all the time!!!!'
I loved all the characters in this drama. Especially Jo Young & Eun Sup, their scenes were always a highlight. Woo Do Hwan has the range, give him all the awards
And his bromance with Lee Gon!! Love them sm
I will admit my brain started to hurt with all that time travel, multiple universes and that place where time doesn't flow. It is a lot to get your head around but just don't think about it too hard is my advice lol
Otherwise, this drama deserves all the praise. I could rave about it forever, please give it a shot!

Well laid out intriguing story line, pay attention From episode 1
Started this drama without much expectation of it being better than Goblin and i wasn't disappointed at all, its actally totally different and better, The story wasn't told the typical kdrama way, so a lot of patience is needed for unveiling its sci/fi plot plot hence its not predictive , also the romance in this drama isn't your regular girl runs foolishly after a boy for 75% of its episodes, no its pretty straight forward and matured and certainly realistic in line with the characterization of the leads, above all you will experience the most amazing chemistry ever seen in kdrama land with pure sincere romance , the story progressed with a chemistry jackpot as i have never ever seen two kdrama characters so comfortable with each other as the leads of this drama by episodes 15 .Please do not drop this drama because of some silly unsubstantiated reviews from people who had already decided to review this drama negatively because their favorite actress wasn't paired with Lee Min ho and the fact that Lee min ho was going to become more popular than their favorite internationally , their backlash and anger started upon the news of the pairing and worsened when they were shocked at how well the two leads synced with each other as the episodes progressed, these outrageous people complained about everything plus typical product placements like the drama is supposed to fund itself and they are sorely dissapointed that despite their back lash the drama retained its spot and yet they didnt drop it,that tells you how amazing and addictive this drama is and of course it has retained number 1 position in so many countries on netflix and its been number 1 on wavee a streaming platform which like Netflix in south korea, people actually prefer to watch on this platforms than via the national tv called SBS so as to rewatch it again. This drama is the only drama that is now on number 6 most watched shows on netflix in the world, and its a drama in korean language, that speaks for itself.
Re watch value is 10/10 if you loved it once you will always go back to find more clues of what you may have missed.
The story is centered around a protagonist Lee min Ho a king in the Kingdom of Corea, who is trying to restore balance that his antagonist uncle disrupted by committing treason to steal a wooden flute that has mysterious powers, he was almost murdered on the night of the treason and he was saved by someone who left an ID card of a Lieutenant played by Kim Go eun , he held on to this ID for 25 years waiting to meet his savior only to find himself mysteriously led by the flute through a maze to Republic of Korea where he meets the woman who is supposed to be his savior and falls instantly for her and she thought he was nuts because he was rambling on about how he was a king.
The story progressed deeper as we understand in a time loop by episode 15 why the king had Tae eul ID card all his life and why she fell so fast for him and how their long distance relationship across parallel universe became a sad love story for them so they always have to live in the moment when they get to see each other, and Gosh their chemistry together is sizzling as their hugs and stares alone burns the screen not to talk of the beheading kiss, this is one drama that delivers real romance progression, from being shy and awkward and blushing to plenty of clingy skinship and you will certainly think you are watching real life romance oncsreen, there stares, tears an longing gazes will tug at your heart.
Waiting for the final episode this Friday and i sincerely hope everyone gets their happy ending because the millions of this fans of this drama are clearly going to revolt as i have never seen a drama where people are so heavily invested in as The King Eternal Monarch

As the most anticipated drama of the year, this one disappoints BIG TIME!
Story: Writer probably thinks when you throw scientific BS in the story, it'd make the drama looks like highly intellectual. Parallel universe, doppelganger, time travel, mathematical computations/formulas thrown as part of a story, is a brilliant idea ONLY if you know what you are doing, if not leave it to the experts. Writer thinks she can get away with it, but she made a big mess and doesn't know how to solve it! Those people who think this is a masterpiece is either a LMH or writer's die hard fans.
Acting casts: Thank goodness to Maximus, WDH's character and SJ. The villains are just decorations, PPL appeared more than them. Writer probably lose interest and just throw some fillers and whatever she thinks will work with the fanatics. I am not even a WDH fan but he stands out in this drama, totally overshadowed the ML. The 3 stars is for WDH, KKN and Maximus.
Music: Good thing, I liked 2 of the OST's, if not I would give this 1 star!
Rewatch value: Probably just watch WDH's scenes OR maybe just go to youtube and look for clips instead. Not gonna waste my time fast forwarding a lot of awful and cringey scenes.
Overall, this drama is for the fangirls only, nothing more nothing less.

WOO DOHWAN
the star of the show is easily woo dohwan. only his character was done some level of justice, his acting and his chemistry and bromance with himself is honestly the only thing keeping me through the episodes. everything else is just below par and not enjoyable. i don't know whats happening, and at ep 14 I've given up all hope at understanding the plot/characters/etc. i had so many hopes for this, but the under-done plot and absolute zero development of the characters and overdone romance is just. ew. I was actually jo yeong whenever something romanc-y happened, and this is coming from someone who LOVES romcoms and romances. i wish i knew what went wrong with the script and the plot for it to turn out this way. the romance is too much and too bland, like one second she absolutely hates him and as soon as she finds out hes a king shes suddenly in love with him??? what??? i dont understand the magic of the worlds, or the science of them and no effort has been made to try and make m e understand. we started out solving a mystery, a case but that is lost now?the characters are so bland. they know nothing about each other and neither do we??? lee gon is justa king with a pasion for math, and a weird obsession with tae eul, and what? the two dimensionality is ridiculous. jang tae eul is just a rude, unlikeable cop and i just ont understand what makes her that great and no one has even tried making her great?? prime minister koo could have been such a powerful, strong female lead but she was only dislikable. not the good kind either.
the only saving grace is jo yeong/jo eun sub. id give my life for these two, absolute cuties.
i absolutely love all the actors, and theyre what made me watch this in the first place. but this was just not it. not worth it at ALL (except ya kno, dohwan. he won)
the good thing about this was the production. a+. beautifully shot and post produced, loved it. the rest however just isnt worth it.
