This drama is a real disappointment compared to all of the other remakes of the Taiwanese original story “The Prince Who Turns into a Frog” with Chao Zhang as Shan Jun Hao/Dang Ou and Joe Chen as Ye Tian Yu. This drama should not be considered a remake but a spin-off. The writer and director turned a nice romantic comedy into a Slap-Kiss lakorn with no redeeming qualities since, after recovering his memory, the male lead becomes a tyrant toward the female lead all the way to almost the end of the drama. Overall, the drama lacks progressive character development, the resolutions came too fast and, even with a happy ending, it doesn't leave a satisfying feeling. If the viewer wants to see better versions of “The Prince Who Turns into a Frog”, skip this one and watch:

I finally finished the series and here is my honest review of it.

Story:
I think almost everyone can agree that this drama began with potential, but it started going downhill.

The plot started where Lookpat was running a small resort and she uses a made-up legend if you see a frog with your significant other, you are destined to be together (I honestly don't remember the whole accuracy of the legend). Kin visits the village in order to make a luxury resort because he actually has a mortgage on the land. There is an incident where Kin forgets his memories and Lookpat and her family use this as an opportunity to stop him from building the resort. Lookpat and Kin fall in love, but Kin, later on, regains his memories but claims he doesn't remember what happened in the village (which was a total lie). He treats Lookpat as a servant afterwards.

The main plot was honestly a mess. I would've given the story a lower rating, but I liked the first few episodes before Kin was all mean. The last 2-4 episodes were so rushed. Those last-minute solutions (I guess ), just felt so weird.

I also really just enjoyed watching Lookhin and Hansa, they honestly carried the series for me and I would pretty much only look forward to their parts. Hansa seemed very entitled, but she is actually very caring and had character development. Lookhin also just funny and cute going along with Hansa's antics. They were the reason why I kept with the series (besides the OST, but I will get into that).

Acting:
Acting on the other hand was good. I think anyone can say that you didn't like Kin at all and I think that was the point in a way. Son was so convincing as Kin I just wanted to scream at him. Vill also did well with the whole head of the house thing. Her character did act pretty dumb at times that it felt unnatural, but I blame that on the story rather than her acting.

Ciize was amazing like always. Her performance never disappoints. She always fits whatever character really well and almost perfectly. Pond as well did an amazing. Whenever I watch the stuff he's in, there's a charm and goofiness to his characters. I can't see anyone else playing Lookhin other than him.

The rest of the cast was good/alright, but I think because of their characters, they didn't stand out too much for me.

Music:
Honestly, my favorite part (other then Lookhin and Hansa's part) was the OST. I literally let the intro play because it's so good and so fun to listen to. I enjoyed it so much that I even added it to my Thai music playlist. This is the link to the official MV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDR4CyPWQec. There are maybe 1 or 2 more OSTs, but this is the one I listen to all the time.

Overall:
Did I hate it? No. But did I really like it? No. I think this is one of those dramas that I only like certain parts of the series. The series could make more sense if they didn't rush everything in the last few episodes and if they didn't drag on the whole bullying plotline. I really just lost count on the number of plots that were dragged on. I am surprised that I kept up with this series every week without pushing it onto the side. Do I recommend it? Not really. Is it watchable? Yes, just don't blame me if you don't like it one bit even if I said it's watchable. I honestly don't know what to rate it overall, but probably a 7.5 (mainly bc of Lookhin/Hansa and the OST).

Annoying FL

So, this remake is the worst of all and here is why:
The ML character is cruel, like really cruel (the acting was great!)
The FL character is really dumb, annoying and over the top.
VWS was casted perfectly for that role, since she can not act without overacting - or it was the other way around and she displayed the FL character in that way, because she can not act any other way....? A bit less screeching, a bit less overacting, a bit more depth and real, honest and normal conversations and this could have been good.
If you like the story watch the taiwanese original or the chinese remake waking love up.
Both are so much better: better acting, better script (the story is the same, but it does not drag that much and the FLds are actually more mature than this one that only knows how to stomp her feet, throw temper tantrums and scream) and both have a nicer happy ending.

A good watch

This drama has it all! It is deep in some parts with strong love lines between the leads, but there is also a depth of character building for the other characters. The family and hotel staff are hilarious they become comic relief towards the end. But there were times that the female leads younger brother became quiet annoying.

The male lead was annoying at times when he was arrogant but you see him show character development. This makes the ending even nicer to see. I will have to say though there was so many times he ‘lost’ his memory and that kind of became annoying.

There are many tropes I enjoy in this for example poor girl and rich man, rags to riches, enemies to lovers. It’s really a good combination and there is no episode which feels like a filler!

In terms of music there was nothing really memorable I just remember the constant music they’d put if something was funny. So there could have been some better tracks of atleast include more piano as this was a key part of the story.

Yeah, at least i still wanted to finish it.

A bit below average drama to me. Why?
-the leads is good, i also need romance, but they dont fulfill it. Those sweet moments when Kin being Tonnam isnt enough to me to make them fall in love each other bcz after that Kin gets revenge at Pat. I needed moments of them taking care of each other after Kin get back his memory, but almost nothing makes their love believable, to me.
-the villagers can't make me respect them. They do everything (in this case, lie) to make a living. They lie & use Tonnam. I can understand that the writer wanna makes it a comedy. But... yeah, i just cant accept their behaviour, includes Pat's mom.
-that's why to me Kin isnt that cruel to Pat, considering what villagers & Pat have done to him. It's just a pity seeing Pat have to face that punishment alone.
-actually Sebra & Nicha's love story has potential in the beginning. But later becomes flat bcz Nicha keep forcing herself to pursue Kin. And the ending of them is flat. Yeah they're just 2nd couple after all.

I wanted to give it 6. But i give 6.5 for:
-Lookhin visit Kin to make everything clear & explained to Sa "i know p'Pat has crossed the line to love Kin. But i also know she doesn't love the wrong person." Wow, a thoughtful & wonderful mind of that village guy.
-They make the villain Kurabri be that clever, not kinda annoying yet idiot bad guy.

Lots and lots of dragging situations...but good story with not-so-sweet-but-sweet romance

++THE PRINCE WHO TURNS INTO A FROG++

***SPOILERS: I WRITE THINGS THAT HAPPENS BUT DON'T SAY NAMES, EXCEPT AT 2.***

1. Idk about others, but I personnally DO NOT like those damn scenes where they do flashbacks over flashbacks! And let met tell you this drama has A LOT of those! It's not really necessary and just adds more useless length to the episodes...

2. Now, about the plot...it's overall a great plot, BUT what could've been done in 1 episode extands to 2-3-4 episodes...which is annoying at some point... And I say I like the plot because if I deduce those scenes and keep in mind the main storyline, it's pretty good! ...Also, I liked how the plot went: guy looses memory and gains it back...at first I thought it would be only at the end that Kin would get his memory back but he got it before. After getting it back he was the biggest assh*ole of the planet though and that's something I think wasn't thaaaaaaaaat necessary...for more than 5 episodes it's all about the jerk moves while Luba tries to survive being treated like sh*t!

3. The actors and actresses. They were all overall really great! They portrayed their characters really well! Some expressions and gestures were too much, but it still worked well with the story and all. Also, even though they were all great for their characters, some scenes lacked emotions...not the romantic scenes (sad or happy) but the tragedies like deaths...one second someone dies and the next it goes "it's okay I'll get over it" and BOOM! they are over it and we never hear about the dead person(s) ever again...

OVERALL, I would recommand this drama to whomever likes a not-so-sweet-but-sweet romance...I say that since the guy is really a jerk when getting his memory back but then after all that sh*t all is well and they end up together...I mean alright cool, the main FL and ML are a couple, but the way he treated her was too much and they still protrayed it as if it was nothing...I would also recommand having some patience since the plot is dragged to fit 25 episodes when it could've been ≈15 episodes...(keep in mind I binge-watched it in 3 days so maybe that's why I feel it's too long for no reason...)...and I say "but sweet" because the kiss at the end was still worth the wait ??

****Note for the english subs people: if you decide to watch it on Viki, the sentences are a bit weird and not well written...like it says Auntie Kin instead of Uncle Kin....or they use "I" instead of "he/she"...it's a but confusing....it's still possible to watch it, but you have to phrase a lot to make sense of the scene!

To whomever decides to give it a shot: enjoyyyy!! ☺️
