Kishi Minetaro is a skilled and serious-minded plastic surgeon. He looks down on doctors earning money through cosmetic surgeries as well as on women asking for such medical procedures. However, having to repay his father's debt, Minetaro chooses lucrative work at a clinic specializing in aesthetic plastic surgery. The clinic is full of beautiful women, including the director Yukawa Mari, who is well known for her skills in breast reconstruction, a highly-trusted doctor Ichii Mutsumi, and a cheerful nurse Kishitani Aoi. But most of them have already had some work done to their faces, and they strongly believe that “faces are for lives.” Various types of patients visit this clinic. As Minetaro needs to keep this job to continue paying off the debt, he has no choice but to respond to the patients' selfish requests, such as, “I need my previous face back because my husband suspects that I may cheat on him now that I have a surgically-altered, young-looking face,” or “I want to change my face and look different from my twin sister.” But their wishes makes him wonder...If they change their appearances, will their futures become brighter? Will their worries disappear? “Beauty” is the keyword set in this human drama, depicting the true feelings of women through the eyes of a surgeon who isn't attuned to reading a woman's mind. Reviews
The story was somewhat episodic, but kept a nice balance with the long term plot arcs. The different clients visiting the clinic all had different stories and reasons for pursuing body modification, and the story did a good job addressing associated issues. One of my favorite parts was at the end of each episode, they included short interviews with people on the street. Each week was a different question about beauty, or self-confidence, or what makes a person shine, all questions brought up and dealt with during the drama.
The characters were pretty convincing, and I especially enjoyed watching the interactions between Mine-sensei, his father, and his roommate, as well as everyone at the office and all their drama. The music wasn't much to speak of, but it was ok. This has a good rewatch value in my opinion. The mood was light-hearted, yet the drama had a lot of content that was seriously addressed, and I think I could get more out of it by watching it again.
The acting was great, here I compliment Ayano Go and Kitano Kii especially. I also liked their characters the most.
I think this drama has a storyline for everyone. They managed to fit quite a few different characters into it, even if it is only 8 episodes long. They could have just as well made it longer, I wouldn't have minded.
I really liked the theme song, but apart from that there's not much to say.
Also, the little "interviews" with people on the streets at the end of every episode were very cute.
I'm just saying that everyone should give this a try, even though I know that it's not everyone's taste.
And you should especially watch it if you like bromance. I mean, that's what made me start it. ;)
