The second issue I have with the story is the notion of ugliness that conveys this drama. Although they can't be completely blamed, they could have convey a more positive message.
Actors was great even if the main actress seemed awkward with skin closeness/kiss. But she is 19, and age gap between the two actors can be a factor.
This kind of story with the same pace and more maturity would be a great romantic drama.
OST : not memorable but not annoying
Re-watch value: I rarely re-watch a drama.

This is a super fast-paced romance in true Japanese fashion. From meeting to getting married, it only took about 4 episodes and these are short episodes. However, Osahima Miyuki (FL) has a sunny and optimistic disposition. This makes the drama enjoyable as we don’t have someone who is always crying or acts as a victim. And due to her personality, she attracts the attention of Suzuki Osamu (ML). Miyuki brings out the best in Osamu, believes in his talents and supports him in any way possible (a little too submissive for my personal taste). Their romance is decent to me. Everything is just too fast, too soon.
Most of the criticisms of this drama would probably be the portrayal of the female lead as the ‘ugly’ girl. Miyuki is really not ugly but she’s overweight. I guess overweight = ugly in many Asian dramas. Not only is she called ugly and is bullied, the writing of all the second-hand embarrassment is overkill for such a short drama. How many times is she going to trip and fall? Do overweight people fall all the time? I don’t think I do! You get all the usual stereotypes - clumsy, easily picked on/bullied, naive, eats a lot, etc. This is definitely not a drama about body image and self-esteem.
If you are very sensitive about body image or people being picked on due to their outward appearances, I would not recommend you to watch this. This is a simple and easy watch and it’s interesting to see a drama about voice actors. But I would not go out of my way to watch.
Completed: 11/30/2022

Cute but awkward
More proof that I won't skip a drama or movie that Miu plays a bigger role in regardless of my worries for her being typecast for her appearance in a negative light. While I absolutely enjoy and respect both actors in their own right, this combination was strange. The story is definitely adorable, a genuine change of pace for Japan's craze for a certain beuaty standard, the choice of casting the main characters with such an age gap made it awkward though.
I was also disappointed whenever they hammered in that she did not in fact match Japans beauty standard which yes, on one side it is realistic that she gets that thrown at her a lot by society, but on the other side I'm not a fan of using someones looks as comedic relief. I felt as though her character was rarely taken serious by the writers unless it was about her talent. It especially felt out of place in a drama that was meant to question those norms if not deem them unimportant. It was just too much sometimes and counterproductive really.
Overall the acting was fine, the story was fun and while I cringed a few times I also equally had some chuckles. A short, sweet drama that i dont regret watching and has becone a faint but fond memory.

Sweet story
Very wholesome show about following your dreams. The main couple was very cute together. I liked how he liked her right away because she saw him for who he really was. One thing about Asian dramas that I don't like is how it seems like everyone wants to tear one another down and they bad-mouth a character right in front of her face, like she can't hear them or something. Bullying at its worst. I liked her character, she felt comfortable in her own skin, knew her own mind, and her optimistic outlook was contagious. Was this review helpful to you?
sweet love story
I really enjoyed this drama! I can understand why people might not like it as much but I think it depends on what you look for in a specific drama. The protagonists here are so cute together, they rely on each other and communicate their feelings - and that's all I ask for, that's why I enjoyed it so much. It doesn't focus on trying to be an uplifting story about loving yourself, it's just about two people loving each other for who they really are (and that's even more uplifting honestly). It was refreshing to see a plus-sized actress play the female lead. Like others, I didn't like the negative people around her who seemed mostly jealous that a person they consider ugly could find love before them, but that's how reality is - especially in a society like Japan's where skinny = beauty. Now in terms of kissing and whatnot (I add this cuz I would personally want to know) - there aren't many kisses but at least they didn't feel awkward since they wouldn't be too long (you know how dramas sometimes have a whole minute of two people kissing and the girl has that shocked look on her face - that's not the case here thankfully ahahah)
I never rewatch dramas, but since their relationship was so wholesome and fresh, I will probably watch it again soon.
Lastly, take my review with a grain of salt. My interpretation of the story might vary from yours but hey I hope that what I wrote might at least entice you to give this drama a try.

DISAPPOINTING SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
The show wasn't a bad watch. I was actually looking forward to watching this show. I'm a bigger girl, so I always enjoy shows where the 'underdog' AKA the fat girl gets the guy. However, I don't like the premise that this series falls on... it fell short in so many ways. The series started out with Miyuki having absolutely no self confidence and it ended with her still having no self confidence. All her life, everyone around her told her that she was ugly so she grew to be a subservient, submissive person who has learnt to grin through all her challenges, hoping that everything will work out ok. Never willing to fight back.
Her father didn't come out and say she was ugly, but it was always implied. Her husband who fell in love with her, never once said that she was beautiful, or complimented her looks in any way. He also never once stood up for his wife when everyone around her kept bullying and disrespecting her. He was just a silent bystander who watched it all happen and then telling her sorry.
His boss and the secretary kept insulting Miyuki about her looks and the fact that she was fat, how she wasn't good enough for him, how she would damage his career... and it seemed that it was ok, as if it was expected... like it's the norm to speak to someone this way. When they went out furniture shopping, the boss and the secretary said that she wasn't good enough to be seen by Osamu's side in any other capacity than a manager, and he actually went along with it. she was his WIFE and he let them belittle her like that. This all helped to cement in Miyuki's mind that she was never good enough for her husband and that she should be grateful that he married her.
Osamu didn't try to reassure her of his feeling. He didn't show that he loved her or deeply cared for her. The only way he sowed some resemblance of a backbone was when he announced that they were married, which to me was a stupid move. Most Asian celebrities, when they marry a non-celebrity, often time keep this person's identify a secret because they know the backlash he/she will get.
I also hated how Miyuki kept bowing and being so submissive to her husband. She never thought that she would ever marry anyone, talk less of marring this famous, handsome celebrity who just happens to be her idol. She seemed so grateful that he married her that she was always looking for ways to please him, always giving in to every demand he may have. This grated on my nerves. It sends out a message to other young girls out there that are fat or so called ugly, won't get a good looking partner and if they do, they should be eternally grateful... bowing and worshiping the ground that this man walks on.
There was ABSOLUTELY NO chemistry between the main couple. The husband wasn't vocal about his adoration for his wife and he didn't show it physically either. Their kiss scenes had no feeling to it... it seemed rehearsed or like it was just part of the script (which it was) which shouldn't be the case.
I didn't regret watching this series but it was so disappointing. If you're going to write a series about a fat girl overcoming obstacles and finding true love, at least try to be convincing with the love part and let their be something learnt from the story.

Busu no Hitomi ni Koishiteru
Busu no Hitomi ni Koishiteru is a 2019 Japanese drama about a man with a seemingly perfect life and a woman chased by misfortune. With a high salary and a beautiful girlfriend, one would expect Osamu to be the envy of all around him. Yet there is something missing in his life. On the complete other end of the spectrum, 25-year-old Ota Miyuki works part-time at a Ramen restaurant while trying to fulfill her dreams of becoming an actress. Though her parents may have named her Miyuki with the intention of her being beautiful and happy, the reality is she is ugly. Ugly enough for her parents to worry over her future. Miyuki herself, though she hates it, is also quite aware of this fact. This is where Osamu and Miyuki meet. Shocked by Miyuki's pure and fresh personality, he is drawn to her, but...[1]Was this review helpful to you?
