A film of two halves
The good bit is the first half:So this film is amazing at the beginning - a brilliant "get the team together and do amazing things, nice guys finish first, rise over prejudice and have fantastic adventures" romp.
It looks excellent, the characters are really well realised, the dynamics between them are believable and for a change the writers show, don't tell, us who the characters are and what they are doing.
Then they kill off every single substantial female part one by one until we are left with a pretty naff mystic who disappears... and like it's 1973 the members of the team with a uterus die so the men have a reason to keep adventuring...
I just can't even...I loved it and then *sigh*
If you want to watch this, watch it until they get to the Mystic Forest then bug out of there and make up a better ending in your head.

I WANT A SEQUEL
This is the first ever chinese movie I watched. I didn't plan on it, but i really loved it. The storyline left me satisfied but feeling like there is more to come. All the actors did a really great job. The CGI was also not fake looking. It was really interesting and captired my attention from beginning to end. I dont want to write any more because I'll be tempted to spoil it. I recommend you check out this movie because it's action packed, with just enough emotional drama. I also peeped Henry's butt-cheek, lol...Was this review helpful to you?

Liked the characters, not so much the story
This movie has some interesting characters in it--especially the Northern Yan slave who I don't believe was ever given a name but who was interesting to watch, and Dong Yilong. It also had some fun actions scenes and a lot of cool ideas in it (the secret of Dong Yilong's birth, Grant Tutor Guan's scheming, the various revenge plots, etc). What I didn't like was that these various ideas didn't tie together very coherently, and some of them weren't given much of a satisfying resolution. Additionally, the level of violence was higher than I expected, and both major female characters ended up dying while both major male characters survived, which pissed me off.
Overall, it wasn't a bad way to pass a few hours, but I don't think I'd recommend it either.

Disappointing: Rushed plot leads to underdeveloped characters
Double World was a highly anticipated movie for me for 2 reasons: Henry Lau and the OST MV "Don't Go" (also by Henry Lau). Both these aspects had me looking forward to the movie - it looked intense and interesting!Unfortunately, while the cinematography and set/costumes quality were great, the story really suffered from rushed execution of plot and poor character development. Due to the extremely rushed story, we do not get a chance to really get to know the main characters nor really capture the character dynamics between MCs. This was super disappointing because each of the MCs had so much potential to be interesting, but their stories were wasted due to their poor character development and rushed telling of the story. It felt like the writers were trying to fit a bunch into the movie, but to compensate for the amount they wanted to fit in, they rushed every plot point to fit everything in, sacrificing adequate development of both characters and plot. This was devastating to my overall enjoyment of the movie because in the end, when tragedy hit, I felt nothing. I wasn't sitting on the edge of my seat with anticipation/worry; rather, I was sitting back, kind of shrugging at the new development, unmoved.
*sigh* Overall, Double World is a serious letdown. It wasn't bad, but it severely missed the mark of "awesome" since you could taste the potential of the characters (and plot) but they were never given the opportunity to grow and shine. I would not recommend Double World, nor will I be watching it again.

Omg. What a great movie
Wow wow wow.. I was blown away with all the excitement going on.. Love the story plot and the cast was just perfect and the scenery and animals. There should be a part2,I would love to see It continued on, it was a great endings but has more history to be told. It is graphic at times so you can cover your eyes lol. This story started as revenge for chu hun and finding his past and who his father was dongli and then we have jing jing who just wanted to be part of a family. They work together to be someone who could speak for the people with the king, but there is always a villian involved. This should have been made into a drama with compleing the future of the. So. Zhao and no. yan County.A must see 10++++++

Wasn't bad, but needs a sequal
This was a good movie, though it did seem to drag out in some places. It also set up a few story points, such as the main character's identity and his, supposed, big destiny. But this never really goes anywhere. I also felt like the main evil’s story and downfall was very anticlimactic, almost like it was a setup for a bigger bad waiting in the wings. The story wasn’t bad, but it felt very much like the build-up for a sequel, and the conclusion leaves things very open-ended. I’m hoping this means there will be a second part, if not, well then be ready to have questions once you’re done watching.

The first half of the movie is amazing. I like the characters and slight changes they make when meeting new characters. As the movie went on though, it seemed to progress faster and faster. The last 15 to 20 minutes seemed super rushed! It felt like they had too much story and too little time.
Maybe this should have been a series rather than one movie.
Even with that being said, I'd love for there to be a second movie. There is definitely more story to tell!
Side note: I love that Henry Lau sang one of the songs for the movie!

I found the plot interesting until the introduction of the monster, after which the movie went downhill. The story relied heavily on clichés such as a young superhero saving innocents, a lovable orphan who was murdered by villains, and a man who gets his revenge.
The ending felt rushed and unfulfilling, leaving too many questions unanswered. Although the visuals and acting were impressive, I prefer movies with more depth and a fleshed-out plot. Therefore, I will stick to dramas and avoid this type of movie in the future, unless it receives a rating of 9+ stars..

Really want a second movie!!!
I really liked this film, it just came out onto netflix and the moment I saw Henry Lau was in it I had to give it a go. I often find many action movies quite boring at times then interesting the next, as they have to incorporate storytelling into it as well. However with this film I was hooked the entire time, there wasn't a part I wanted to skip or found myself zoning out of. I found it paced quite well up until the end, I found the ending was quite quick in regards to the fact they revealed so much important information but never acted on it. I'm not sure if they are making another movie, or simply left some things unrevealed due to the fact it is based off of a game and they might want to increase the interest in playing it. (SPOILER) I didn't like the fact that they killed off so many characters at the end of the film as it kind of felt very anti climactic. However overall I really enjoyed the movie and I will most likely watch it again. I recommend for those who enjoy more action packed movies with less large dialogue scenes and more fighting. The CGI was quite good, and majority of the time felt realistic. Was this review helpful to you?

Highly Entertaining Though Rushed...
Never heard of this film before, but its title card on Netflix with the image of a good-looking Asian warrior piqued my interest. My interest was further piqued when I saw that the film starred Henry Lau, who I was first introduced to when I saw a thumbnail of him in a Buzzfeed YouTube video.Highly entertaining and engaging, I was completely invested in the story and the characters. However, the film felt very rushed. It was like pedal to the metal right from the start. The film tried to cram the content of a series into a 2 hour film. Within the first 15 minutes, the main characters are already on their trek for a warrior competition and one person has already died. And there were a few questionable plot points such as the Martial Combat, which though exciting, doesn't make any sense at all. Why would you send your best fighters to die just so that one of them can lead an army? Like what?
This story would have been better suited as a series to be honest. There is still way too much material to unpack and so many story threads that still need to be explored. I truly hope that there will be several sequels, which will help flesh out the story and the background of its characters, bringing justice to this fascinating story.
On a side note, Henry Lau's so hot! I loved how the producers/director pandered to the audience by serving us some Henry Lau shirtless scenes! Bless them! His acting could've been better though. To be honest, the acting all across the board could have been better, but that could be a script/genre issue where overacting is the norm/expected. Still highly entertaining though.
