Don't think too much about it and enjoy the drama for what it is
So... let me start off by saying that I did do a lot of skipping through this drama. Its your typical contract marriage romcom, without the added headache that usually comes with it. Admittedly there's some major plot holes but if you just go with it you will thoroughly enjoy the ride. The drama starts off with the typical will-they-won't-they push and pull, but once the pair gets together they are solid. Never once was i afraid something was going to keep them apart. The drama quickly became a more slice of life drama. What I appreciated most was that the couple always had each other's backs. They worked together to set wrongs right. They were each other's ride or die. I truly believed they loved each other. However that's probably more attributed to the two leads having great chemistry. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the couple's unwavering trust in each other; so much so that they are always honest with each other. I find it so frustrating when couples allow misunderstandings to occur because they don't say how they truly feel. Not this couple tho! They are so cute together.
But of course every historical drama always has to have a political subplot (thats the part i skipped through). We've seen it, we know how it will end, don't need to watch it again.
As I've said, the main couple has amazing chemistry. For newbies I thought Tang Min and Caesar did great in their roles. I really don't think for the simplicity of the drama that the acting could have been done better.

Bored Near the End…
At first I thought this was a pretty nice drama; the storyline being the OG “contract marriage”, and the funny/clumsy character of Shen Jin. However, as I got near the end, the plot began to feel boring to me as the “climax” of the drama had mostly passed. Shen Jin opened her fabric shop, and Chu Xiuming defeated his enemies in court. After that, I felt that the rest of the drama wasn’t really worth watching anymore, and I had to force myself to finish “General’s Lady”. However, I think that with some changes in the plot and script, the end of the drama could’ve been more interesting. I still recommend this drama if you’re looking for a humorous yet utterly romantic historical drama. Was this review helpful to you?

Good Palate Cleanser Drama!
STORY: I felt like there were parts of the plot that were kind of all over the place. Like the mystery that the ML is trying to solve about the 8th Prince kind of gets left in the dust until the end of the drama. For a good portion of the middle of the drama, it's not really talked about. Another instance is when they visited the Falcon Tribe. I thought that the characters they met there would resurface later, but that didn't really happen. There's a girl and her brother that they meet and the girl likes the SML Chu Xiuyan, but nothing comes of it so I'm not sure the reason it was added.ACTING/CAST: Overall, it was pretty decent. I felt at times the acting was overdone. Especially, with the SFL, Rou Rou. I read in the comments that people thought she was annoying (this was before watching the drama) and I thought people were just overreacting. After watching the drama I completely see what they mean. I thought her character was overdone. For example, the FL and ML's romance was halted because the FL didn't want to make the SFL sad since the SFL couldn't be with her love at the time. So the FL and ML basically couldn't spend time together. I thought this was unnecessary and dumb.
As for the FL, her character was sometimes childish and she sometimes lacked the grace and etiquette of a general's wife/ a lady from her time at times. For example, when the princess of the Falcon Tribe comes to stay at her manor. Despite being childish at times, I feel her character was very brave, quick-witted, and emotionally and socially intelligent. Firstly, the love for her mother is very strong. She volunteers to marry the general in place of her sister to protect her mother. Secondly, we see her stall an attack on her manor, holding off the enemy for long enough for the general to come back and help out. She is creative and quick-witted, by putting the general's armor on and telling the others to make it appear as if more people are there protecting the manor. Although it's the general who technically comes to the rescue, she states to his right-hand man that without the general they are all dead. We also see her social and emotional intelligence when dealing with her sisters. She knows exactly what they're up to and the words to say to shut them down.
In terms of the ML, I felt his character was meant to seem too perfect, when in fact he was far from it. In the middle of the drama, the two end up in an argument over the future of the general's aide (SML). This eventually leads to the FL returning to stay with her mother for a bit. His character becomes overbearing, controlling, and rude, and not in a sexy way. When it's found out that the FL is pregnant, the ML says to the physician, "I'm not asking how she's doing, I'm asking how the baby is." I felt this line deviated from how the audience is supposed to view his character....loving and warm. I think he has a few of those moments where he deviates in that way, where you expect him to console his wife or be more loving, but he just isn't. When the FL lead returns home because of the argument between her and the general, the general comes to her home and says to her mother that it's his fault. But to me, I felt he was just sort of saving face and he wasn't 100% sincere. Otherwise, he cares for the FL and loves her. Perhaps he's a bit socially awkward in terms of confrontation in his relationship.
There are definitely misunderstandings between the main couple due to lack of communication, but nothing that really really irritated me. In general, I felt the drama could be slow at times, but I think this is a good drama if you need something light to cleanse your palate between intense dramas.

The best historical drama ever
First of all, both the lead actors has chemistry and their acting is very touching. Adding on to that, the OST by Ye Xuan Qing was so good it adds on impact to the scenes. Would recommend watching this drama! From a fierce general to a loyal husband. This is the best historical drama I have watched! All of the episodes are not boring and it is definitely worth the watch. Both the actors do not disappoint and I really hope to see them act in another drama again. In my opinion, this drama is much better than yun xi palace. It deserves more hype!

Fluffy romcom that had potential
It started off great! The FL was smart and crafty while the ML was cool but not completely blind to the FL's devotion. There were lots of cute fluffy scenes, pretty costumes and the story was progressing nicely. But around episode 15, the plot just started to get dull. If you can handle the "sometimes people in love do dumb things" trope then this drama might be watchable for you. The FL and ML created tons of misunderstandings on their own and it felt like the plot got sloppy. Problems were usually resolved in 1-2 episodes and didn't really have an impact on character development of the main cast....so I found myself skipping through the episodes up until the last episode. Yes it is a happy ending. Was this review helpful to you?
Misunderstanding galore
8/9/2021Let me preface this review by saying I am not a young (in age) viewer and have watched over 100 C-dramas. This might just not be the right fit for me. I enjoy romance, rom-com and historical dramas, so I thought I might like this. Unfortunately, I have to drop it. I watched 12 episodes and these episodes are filled with misunderstandings between the leads over and over again. It's one plot after another. The romance could have been good but it got too cheesy and immature. I've watched FL in "Chef Hua" and liked her OK, but I do not like her character here at all. She's supposed to be smart yet how can she not know the way she behaved in the army is going to cause all kinds of serious trouble? Being persistent in chasing ML is fine, but the way she's doing it is not OK at all. It's disappointing because I like the general plot of the drama and is a fan of forced-marriage-turn-love trope.

Fantastic ML
Overall this drama did not failed me. Till now (ep9) the storyline, acting skills and overall production never failed me. There are a few Historical drama half way it derailed and i dropped it, but so far not this General's Lady. ML and FL have a very good chemistry to portrait their character. Especially the ML, very very good in his acting as a cold but warm hearted General. Caesar Wu well done. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. This is the first time I watch Caesar Wu's project, will definitely look back for his previous project. He is still young and can potrait a General character in such a manly, firm way. Very good future in his acting career.FL, Tang Min, very cute. She has the right aura when she portrait as The General's wife. Her acting skill is superb. There are plenty good acting actress nowsaday but to have a right aura for a specific character only a handful. I might be wrong but this is just my opinion. I am a fan of Korean drama but lately i switched to Cdrama and an eye opening for me. There are plenty of nice and well rated drama. Conclusion, this drama is superb.

average low-budget drama
Story and production:A poor girl is forced to marry an "ugly and monstrous" general, but the marriage turned out to be a blessing. It sounds and is a very typical teen aimed drama imo.
It's a very average and low-budget comedy love historical drama. There's not much substance to review. Neither the love story or the comedy scenes have left an impression to me.
Acting: Average. Nither ML or FL have stood out to me.
There's really not much to tell imo. If you want to watch something without a lot of expectations or thoughts and you are a fan of historical drama, you might have a try.

What a steaming pile of horseshit it was ...
We come across a lot of bad dramas.. but if you find the one that has everything that you possibly hate then a ranking or even 1 star feels very extra ...Okay let's begin instead of writing boring paragraph I will put the entire review in points ..
1) below average/ average looking ML ... Say he is not bad looking but not very impressive either ... Flat face .. aloof expressions and annoyed ng character these are the things I can't tolerate in leads especially ML ..
2) the story is old fashioned ... There was absolutely nothing new about this story ..even the punches were old ... I expect scriptwriter/storywriter to atleast put something original or of their own ...but to my disappointment the dramas looks like someone wrote it by copying multiple drama script ..
3) unnecessary misunderstandings in leads and showing ML as Sigma FL as some annoying silly villager ... In my opinion this is the biggest turn off ...these days intelligent smart and independent FL are more in trend ... This story tried to deliver such FL character in the beginning after 2-3 episode she just turned some pushover ... Who has absolutely no self respect ...who forgives ML too easily ... Who has no regards for her dignity ...who keeps throwing herself on ML even when he clearly rejects her hints ... I HANDS DOWN CAN NEVER SUGGEST A DRAMA WHERE ML OR FL CHARACTER DONT DISPLAY A STRONG AND VALUABLE CHARACTER.
4)the flow of the plot which was very abrupt ... Like they are fighting like crazy in the one scene and they act all normal having dinner with each other in the next scene. Build up to connect the dots was very much missing and quite clearly visible
5) there was a lot of unnecessary screentime wasted on stupid scene. : you can literally sit on the skip button while watching it there were so much nonsense in between.
6) No SML : this story highly demands SML as the FML has a very introvert and secretive character to establish his character there is always a need to add a contrasting character that helps build a lot of sense to the story ... For example it help highlight the chemistry between FL ML
7) I slept like 4 times in between
8) no chemistry in lead

Must have been one of those Grade C Cdramas
I was scrolling when this title came up. The synopsis looks promising, as it depicted how an unfavored noble daughter gets bethrothed to a seemingly evil general, fell in love at first sight and tries real hard to help her husband in solving problems her husband faces. Sounds like a strong FL who may not know any kungfu but bright in the head. I immediately imagined Ming Lan (from story of Ming Lan) type of character. I needed a breather after the fast paced and breathtaking ride of Legend of Shen Li which i just finished watching twice back to back. So I thought, 30 episodes, I can finish this quick, must have been fast paced too.Boy did I get fooled. Instead I was met with one draggy episode after another, with an FL who is immature, stupid, childish, lack serious foresight, incredibly insecure and jealous girl who has no chemistry with the ML. The only strong point that she has is her skill of lock picking. Other than that she’s useless. I seriously pity the general character to have that unfortunate fate of falling in love with this stupid girl. I find it really stupid that she immediately thought that tribal princess wants to steal her husband, and when it’s all over, all misunderstandings settled, suddenly there’s another princess coming in and she immediately thought she was out to steal her husband too. My god i just had to drop the series when she shamelessly met with the princess in secret before her official arrival to the mansion. Immature, stupid, shameless. That’s all I see of this pathetic FL. Not her fault I guess as she was only going with the script. It’s lazy writing. I hated it. It could’ve been much better story. That’s what happens when You hire grade C scriptwriters I guess. I’m just mad cuz it could’ve been good and now I have to continue my search for a good series. Wasted almost 11 hours of my life. What a bummer.

ML is on my list of fave character!
Ghad! ML was so so so mwah! His character was so interesting. Like how he treats the situations and that phrase "I have a plan" shep! He has both sides which is why I freakin love his character. FL was not annoying. She understood the ML but still did not agree that he was right. Maybe not everyone likes that. That's why, some may not like it. Her resourcefulness and wit were underrated because of how she approached the situations but we can't deny that her wit saved them in things that were trivial and essential. I kinda like how compatible her attitude to the ML. AND DEFINITELY, how they handle each other! I was satisfied with how fast the pace was and it elaborated the topic like "After they fall in love, what's next?". The fast pace gave way to that plot and the confession was smooth... not much annoyance. For a light plot, I love this one. Smooth ride yet there's still a twist or thrill here and there. Was this review helpful to you?
