Both the dramas have good and evil sides that keep on plotting against each other. The MC's belonging to good side get involved with the evil side. There's romance among leads from good and evil which faces continuous opposition. And there's swordplay involved in both.

Both are adaptations of the same novel by Jin Young. Laughing in the wind is the best version and sticks to the original story more than all other adaptations. Swordsman tries to change up some things which keeps it interesting for a while but concludes in a mess that frustrates viewers. If anything, Swordsman became the sluttier version cause Ling Shan is depicted even sluttier and Ling Hu Chong changes his "true love" 3 freaking times smh. Swordsman also relies heavily on crappy cgi effects and oversaturating everything (which can be a hit/miss and in the case of Swordsman, a bit of both).
