No logic to the story but the sweet moments are worth watching

I haven't watched the original Full House so I don't compare this to anything. The story has a lot, I meant, A LOT of flaws in the plot. Things don't add up and illogical. How could Luo Tian Ran act like nothing happened to her BFF who just sold her house? How could the crepe maker easily walk into Tiffany's office without anyone stopping him (Tiffany's office is full of A-Listers!) Anyway, the illogical things are endless and it's painful to watch. The should have checked all the gaps in the stories more carefully.
HOWEVER, the series are good in creating sweet moments between LTR and JZY. Zhou Zhou is an amazing actor (#xuweizhou I hope you will read this one day!) with very impeccable micro-expressions. I think he has saved this series from total fail. The OST and the cinematography are also strong. Overall, this is not the best series but Zhou Zhou rescued them!

cutest bickering contract couple ever!!!

I can't emphasize how 24 episodes is the perfect amount of episodes!! This drama is totally worth your time. Although is kinda cliche. Male and female get into a contract relationship, from bickering couple they fall in love.

Male lead- a idol/star. In the summary it said he is childish, but i don't really get that vibe , lol only when he is with the female lead.
Female lead- is a tone deaf , but wants to fulfill her dream of writing music/composing.

They get into this contracted marriage because to minimize the gossip of the male lead because he is a star while the female lead wants to keep her house because its from her late dad.

Their chemistry is really really good, its off the charts. They are such a cute bickering couple definitely cute moments together. This was one drama that didn't have as much kissing scenes , but which i felt they being together is cute and sweet enough. They had a lot of scenes actually together like spending time and you can see their relationship develops.

She also helps male lead to resolve the issue between him and his dad.

Although she has a friend who , who did something messed up like wth ? why would she do something like that, her character is bearable.. and doesn't become worst. Another evil character later but it doesn't take away from the show.

This drama is definitely better than count your lucky star!!! You won't be disappointed.

BEST ADAPTATION!

SPOILER ALERT!

I love this adaptation of Full House. It's the best! I liked this one better than the original.
And i love that they did not just COPY - it has its own feels to it. and its sooo good! better!

The chemistry between the two main leads are on point. It's so balanced, you really feel the love push and pull between the characters. That you want to see them more.

I wished there were more kissing scenes!!! hahaha.

That ending tho - feels hanging. Maybe because - i watched it in chinese without the subs. haha. It means I'm that excited. <3 <3 And i dont want it to end! I hope to see more collaboration from the two actors. <3

BINGE-WATCH WORTHY! The best of 2020!

SO DONE

Jesus fucking Christ. I want death. The manager? Fuck her. The best friend? Fuck her. The doctor? Fuck him. Every character in this is either bratty, stupid, annoying, or fucking horrible. Except Tai. Tai is literally the best character. THE BEST... Until they just HAD to ruin him in the final episode by pairing him up with the best friend. Fuck.

They literally get together in the last 85% and then break up like THE NEXT EPISODE. AND THEN A FUCKING TIME SKIP. I’m so fucking done. He literally left the industry... and she just bounced? Can we solve this miscommunication? That breakup was literally unnecessary.

The doctor... wow, he is super punchable. His face. His attitude. I just hate him. It's like he just asks for pity.

The best friend... wow, she's a real piece of work. She sells our main chick's house. She tries to blackmail the main chick and the main dude for her own benefit. Wow. And then she tries to make THEM look like the bad guys.

The manager... wow, she needs to stay in her lane. That's it.

The main chick... it really felt like she was leading on the doctor. I mean, it was clear she knew exactly what she was doing with him because no one is THAT clueless.

I didn't really want to watch this. I only did it because of Timmy Xu. I wanted to see him after Addicted. His character was irritating.

Watch this series only if you like Timmy Xu

I cannot believe I wasted almost 25 hours to finish this drama!!!!

Only saving grace was Timmy Xu. He single handedly saved this show .....hmmm...I wouldn't say save, he made it bearable. This is my first show with the FL, my god!!!! this female is brick faced. Throughout the show she was just pouting. 95% of the time i didn't know whether she was happy, sad, angry, annoyed etc. In one of the scenes she tells Zeyi that I am very happy today....I was like " really girl, thanks for letting me know" . I got angry whenever she sang "red elephant, small elephant" song. I felt like hitting her with something.

Now let's get down to the story of the show......

The show begins with FL's friend selling the house (which is not hers) to the hero "Zeyi". I mean its the house where you grew up with your dad. Your dad designed it in memory of your mom. But trust me she was not at all angry. In opposite she blamed the hero for buying the house ( I mean, i really laughed like anything for her common sense). Audacity of the FL's friend is also admirable. I really thought you both deserve each other. Throughout the show I saw her go to the Cafe where she works only thrice, I really don't understand how she supported herself before marrying Zeyi (I know its just a show, but at some point audiences common sense kicks in, then you start questioning every loop holes, trust me there are many loop holes). She explains she loves to hear nature's sound, so she records sound. You can see this in only one episode.
Now about SL, he is someone who cannot feel pain. If you are a drama fan (Korean or Chinese) , you might have seen many leads with this syndrome and nailing it. But this guy, my god!! Bland. There is no connection at all when he says he likes FL.

I saw other reviews saying it's the best adaptation or good chemistry. I really don't understand what chemistry people saw. There is no skinship b/n the leads whatsoever. I mean they lived in a single house for a year, trust me nothing, not even holding hands. Even after they confess their love, no skinship. So really felt the feelings were forced.

I cannot emphasize enough, only if you love Timmy Xu then only watch this show.

alright but could of been better

it’s a sweet watch, cute storyline & couple and also beautiful cinematography! Honestly there was a lot of ANNOYING characters but there were no real villains or angst, and if there were any misunderstandings between the leads then that was cos of their own poor communication skills not anyone’s else fault rlly.

However at the same time personally the drama was rlly *flat* and although the acting felt natural, there was no chemistry despite it being the love-hate trope. I feel like usually dramas with the love-hate trope would have a lot of chemistry but not this one :/

LOL is all I could say, a sweet cliché

I binge-watch this show, breaking them down into 2 parts.
Firstly, I watched this without much expectation because I didn't know that it was a full house remake until I started seeing the similarities and checking it up on this website after binge-watching the first part.

Really cute moments actually but some don't make sense in real life tbh. Harming a celeb when you are a nobody?? Err... I don't think that is possible. And staying in the same house?? Er... Another question.

And when you have a messed up friend like that, how could you not hate her. She was annoying but towards the end it was alright. LMAO, the way she fulfilled her quest towards the end is really hilarious. I bet the writer was like 'Oh wait we need to establish a moment where she can finish her wants at the start.. There seems to be a hole here.. lets just do it with this one' (I'm referring to her mask)

Cute chemistry between the both of them, maybe its because its CYC.

Ending - LOL really kinda rushed and not explainable. Where did the girl from the second ML came from? How he found her? LMAO. The ending was what was expected after watching little hints but is definitely not the kind of ending I want but ok, not bad, at least they didn't spend the whole ep chasing after a blank and mysteriously solve it. Tiffany's case is also like a WTF moment because her love towards ML was ???? suddnely solved.

Overall, I would watch it cause its cute.

As everyone know, this drama is a remake. BUT! I think it has it's own uniqueness. The story is not just a copy paste, but there's another story and lesson we can gain from it. I think the story is simple and light, so it's suitable for anyone who wants to watch drama which is not to heavy or making us think to much. This drama is just right for happiness, comedy, family and so on. Even though it's a remake but I'm really enthusiastic when watching this drama. I really like the chemistry of all cast! I really love the design of the full house to be honest. This drama really can make me happy when watching it.

Watered-down rendition of a classic

Ever watched full house?

This show is essentially a diluted and bland version of the original, with a few questionable tweaks to the plot.

The relationship between the ML and FL was so forced, and there was barely any development in their relationship worth noting. The original version gave reasons as to how and why their contractual marriage proceeded as it did, while this version simply rams it into your face and forces you to accept it.

Every single one of the characters lack depth. The FL's friends were supposed to evoke immense hatred and wrath from the viewer, but this chinese version merely sprinkles confetti over their socially unacceptable deeds. Also, this version of the ML reminds me of a toothless lion cub - adorable but unrealistic and too harmless for its own good. (Strange analogy I know, I'm still scratching my head over it)

Overall, watch the original, and only watch this if you are desperate for another drama with the same premise.

Don't waste your time with this melodramatic nonsense.

Do not bother with this one. It is just a compilation of overused plot lines; for example, she gets amnesia after falling on a bike...These triangle relationships always have such a double standard. The guy always makes the relationship clear and draws a line with the side girl, but the girl always flirts and leads the side guy on. It is starting to get annoying. They make the FL lead appear oblivious, like oh he's just a friend and take no responsibility for making their significant other feel like shit. Throughout the story, it is literally the ML that takes all the suffering, while the FL is the cause of all of it and she is completely oblivious. She did not apologize once and the ML keeps taking the blame and is the bigger person because if he doesn't the FL will just leave him; and it is kind of pathetic. Even when her friend tells her straight up that the ML sacrificed a lot to be with her and the ML explicitly tells her he is very jealous and does not want her to be alone with the side guy, she keeps doing it. She literally treats the SML better and is way more considerate of his feelings, but when it comes to her husband she has no clue and does nothing for him. The ML is so hurt by the FL literally going on dates with the SML while they are married and he still does not blame her. One moment when the ML confronts the FL while she ran away to live with the SML and says I'm sorry, the SML tells him to fuck off in front of the FL and she takes the SML's side. It is absolutely ridiculous. The FL's character is absolutely terribly written; although she is cute. I really feel bad for the ML here as he is just a punching bag. No one cares about him at all. I do not think the FL actually acknowledged any of the pain the ML was going through once. Like does the SML not have any other friends? why is she spending a romantic candlelight dinner with the SML on his birthday when she is married? And then the SML walks her home and first thing she says to ML is "you're not mad". If you knew it would upset him, why do it? make it make sense. But the FL makes the ML the bad guy for feeling jealous. You are literally going on a date with the SML...The FL is actually terrible. When the ML goes to the hospital to take care of the SFL, the FL asks to go with him cause she is jealous. Why can't the ML feel the same. The ML and SML are childhood friends can he not go with her when she meets the SML? She does not understand this once...it is infuriating to me. I do not know why people like this stuff.

At the end the ML sacrifices everything for the FL, and then she RUNS AWAY and boom 1 year time skip. Then the ML finally finds her after 1 year and almost no convo happens; he just proposes and she accepts then queue happily ever after. The ML comes back from retirement after marriage by singing the FL's composed song. They do not show any moments of this and just queue happy ending. It would have been nice if they focused the plot on the leads actually loving each other. One wants to be a composer and the other is a famous singer. They could have made such good moments of them working together but nope, lets just do melodramatic garbage.

They had cute moments between the leads, but those were rare and most of it was just a lot of melodramatic garbage that i had to skip through. I could not imagine actually watching the whole thing.

Enjoyed this much more than I thought I would

My initial impression of Midsummer is Full of Hearts was not a good one. I sincerely believe that if I had ANY expectations whatsoever about this series, I would not have given it such a high score. It was because I had so few expectations from this drama that I had such a good time watching it. After watching the very first episode of Midsummer is Full of Hearts, I was fairly convinced that I would not like it. It seemed to have a childish air to it that I did not necessarily find charismatic, and it didn't help that I had never been that fond of Xu Weizhou (it's not him, it's me). However, as a subber for it on Viki, I had made a commitment to deal with the drama and wasn't planning to skip out on it just because it didn't fit with my taste. Though I didn't know it then, that was a blessing in disguise. After skipping through episodes 1-10, I found that the story started to get interesting.

I will start by highlighting the many wonderful things about this drama. The first thing that caught my eye was Yang Chaoyue. As a fan of the girl group she was formerly in, Rocket Girls 101, I was somewhat interested in following her individual work now that the group disbanded. I had skipped out on her other dramas because they were not of interest to me, and I am not the type to sit through something I have no liking for just because I'm a fan of whoever is in it. As a person who really, really likes romantic comedies with some aspect of fame and the media in them, I was quite intrigued by Midsummer is Full of Hearts. I had no gauge on Yang Chaoyue's acting ability, but I have to admit that my expectations for her weren't very high. I was relieved to find that she was very in character at all times. She played the character Luo Tianran so effortlessly, it was as if she were made for the role. I loved the childish, bubbly energy that she gave the character, and it was so much fun to watch her act. I sincerely hope that she will continue down the path as an actress. It seems to suit her. As for Xu Weizhou, I admit that I started out somewhat wary of him. I was never able to get through any of his dramas before, and at first, I wasn't sure if he would pair well with Yang Chaoyue since they seem so different. I was glad that Xu Weizhou seemed to have done a lot better in this drama than he did in the other dramas I saw him in. His character is a man child, arrogant and somewhat bad tempered because of his career as a celebrity. I loved the way Weizhou was able to give off the type of energy the character needed to come alive. The plot was childish and silly without any kind of actual grounding or substance, but even so, it slowly began to become endearing and cute. As I mentioned briefly before, I love dramas that have some aspect of fame and the media in them. It's very interesting to watch relationships develop when one or both of the characters are famous, and it's really interesting to watch what the media in the story cooks up and how the relationship continues as annoying fans get in the way of things. This drama did well to satisfy my love for these types of plots. Some misunderstandings were caused because of the media, but they did not drag out forever and instead added a lot of interesting situations. After just finishing a drama that had a very boring misunderstanding of multiple episodes, I appreciated that so much. The main couple did not have very many kiss scenes or intimate acts, but there were many really cute moments and lots of bickering that was fun to watch. I am unashamed to declare that I also loved the second couple. Yes, Lin Che probably deserved better, but I always love watching relationships where the sunshiney man pursues the aloof, cold woman. That scene where he gave her the keychain frog, silly as it sounds, is my favorite scene from the whole drama.

I only had one big problem that I wasn't able to ignore. Even though the script was not very well written, that wasn't the big problem I had with it. My main grievance with this drama was that EVERY side character is a plot device that kept the story going. Most of them do not have actual personalities, character development, or clear motives. I feel like many of the characters either very flat and had no depth or were a huge puzzle to figure out. The two second leads, Tiffany and Yun Shu, were extremely weird, and it was so, so hard to understand their intentions. One of my biggest WTF moments was with Cheng Shasha, Jin Zeyi's junior. The writers made it clear that she was in love with him, but that is her literally her ONLY personality trait. In the drama, she had a total of probably less than 30 minutes of screen-time and was completely irrelevant for 99% of the drama. However, one episode, completely out of the blue, she plays the role of a jealous second lead. She does something that hurts the relationship between the leads with pretty much no warning for just one episode and then almost completely vanishes from the rest of the drama. It was just so unbelievable and left me completely shocked. The character was clearly used to keep the plot going and then discarded when her purpose was served. There was also a very one-dimensional antagonist named Lin Xiquan who was quite annoying for about two episodes. After that, he completely dropped off the face of the earth but came back completely unannounced a few episodes later to wreak more havoc. He was so unsatisfying as a villain that I almost completely forgot he existed until right before publishing the review. There are like 15 other examples of terribly written characters, but my instinct tells me that I shouldn't turn this review into a full blown rant, so I'll stop here. I get that this isn't the type of drama that delves deep on side character development, and it's impossible for writers to care about every single character and make sure that they are fleshed out enough, but way too many characters in this drama were treated like tools that got dragged in and pulled out whenever the writer deemed it necessary. Besides those problems, there was nothing majorly inexcusable and was overall pretty good.

One more thing is the OST. Though I felt that the beginning and ending OST were both a little bit too heavy and sad sounding than I thought fit (they were both good, just didn't fit as well with the vibe of the show), the middle song sung by Gu Landi was so enjoyable and great to listen to. There really wasn't that much music in the drama, sadly, and there were lots of moments when I thought "wow, a cute song would be so fitting here" However, they did well with what they had.

I think the MDL rating on this show is pretty accurate (7.9 as I write this). I can definitely understand why people would rate it this way. It's not a terrible drama, but people might not necessarily be able to get over the empty plot and groundless characters. Since I went in with low expectations, I had already expected such things to happen, so I wasn't too disturbed by them and learned to build up an immunity to plot flaws and things like that. I was able to enjoy the hilarious scenes, playful bickering, chemistry, and acting of the cast and highly recommend this drama to anybody who likes to watch fluffy dramas to pass time. I would also suggest keeping low expectations in order to be able to ignore all of the flaws of the drama. Overall, there was a lot to love about it, and I hope you give it a chance :)

Dropped

I'm sorry that this is really below my expectation of Full House remake.
At first, I was kinda looking forward since I really like the tone of this drama.
Really fits your summer drama.
But, I must say this kind of story they've develop / change in this drama is BAD.
The leads mostly bickering and I can't even see their spark. I skipped to the last episode to see how they'd warp this drama. It is happy ending, but they likely rushed the ending even tho it is already have more episodes the original episodes of Full House.
It was an okay that they added "amnesia" part, but not really make the story gets better. Still all over places. So messy.
They didn't even bother to changed the interior when Ze Yi's started to move in LMAO.

I also hate the fact that like they made Tianran is so dumb. I can't believe she can befriend the so-called-friend that sold her house so easily. For me, the friend is more annoying than Tiffany. She shows no remorse at all. I feel sick of her character, who keep manipulating Tianran and even dare to blackmailed her after what she's done to Tianran?
Omg, they better focused to develop the main relationship than let the friend have more screentime and even ended up with the cute bodyguard.

Alright, enough with ranting.
For everyone who haven't try the original Full House or Full House Thailand, you may like this series since the leads are cute together.
But if you already watch the two other Full House, you better not waste your time to watch this one and expect for the leads upcoming dramas to follow.
