This show focusses on Akira who doesn't have any reason/will/skill to be a detective but she's still going with the flow. Usually we get quick-witted leads in detective drama but contrary to that here we have a mysterious lady who doesn't show any kind of emotions and seems like a normal person on street. She have a troubled past but she's past the age to cry over that.
This is an incomplete drama since many questions were left unanswered but what I understood was that it's basically a series telling us the daily life stories of a detective whose cases always turn into something disastrous.
It's quirky and fun, I think every mystery lover should give it a try since it excels in the aesthetic setting of dark criminal world. Last three episodes are titled " Worst 10 days of akira's life" And trust me I didn't expected the finale to be so thrilling.

Simple but very entertaining small dorama

What a great little dorama this was!
My first time seeing Shishido Kavka acting and what a treat! I hope to see more of her, specially in a complete opposite character as Akira.
Speaking of the main character, she is definitely different from other shows, but not as much from other serious detectives, although I only have watched Cold Case for comparison.
I hope this get another season in the future.
If you enjoy detective thriller but wants something less dramatic this one might be it. And basically all the character love Agatha Christie, so that is a huge plus in my books.

..AKIRA HAMURA | FEMALE | JAPANESE..

..the first two episode for me is kinda long for me, I thought it always start with those clients of her where the investigations end in just a couple of days and later on a serious case come..
.
..and yes, a very unlucky detective just getting into trouble, not even solved a crime on the first episode, with a little fun scenes yet a full credibility detective knowing if the case is worth it to choose even if the offer of money is too high..
.
..the series just only a few episodes, where the last case covers 3 episodes..
.
..the investigating procedures are too slow-paced no wonder each episode took almost an hour an yet the case solved during the chatting between Akira and Okada - though there are some parts (for me), that I can't get along, knowing just some information were said without being watch on the entire episode..
.
..still a worth it series for me - I just can't take my eyes on Shishido Kavka, her face, her voice, her acting are too impressive..

The World's Most Unfortunate Private Investigator doesn't realize her luck some times

What a delightful watch! I kept postponing it because somehow I misunderstood the synopsis when it said "The World's Most Unfortunate Private Investigator" to be dumb but that wasn't it AT ALL. She was just unlucky in that things always seemed to go the more difficult path for her. Yet as the story goes on, she seems more lucky than she realizes, just not in the predictable way.

The character of Akira herself is interesting to follow, as is her thought process and attitude. The people at the bookstore who work with her are likable but, except for the female, don't get time to get fleshed out as characters besides being some sort of information gatherers. The characters of the cases get much more attention in understanding their resolve, even if not all get clarified.

Another great seller of the drama is Mamiya Shotaro. Though he doesn't show up often in most episodes, when he does, he has such a strong presence and IMMEDIATE chemistry with Shishido Kavka who plays Hamura Akira from the first time they meet. It's hard to describe it, especially when their relationship is pretty formal but like they can't ignore each other's presence. It's also interesting that halfway through the drama you start doubting Detective Okada's intentions which makes their interaction even more interesting.

My only complaint is that the drama isn't a full-length drama. It is true the story doesn't answer all the questions it poses, but it's not some glaring open ending. They are just answers that weren't found by the detective. In any case, while this drama is not for all I highly recommend it if you like Japanese quirky dramas with a bit of a SPEC element.
