Both dramas have the same premise. The protagonists never met their fathers and have strained relationship with their mothers. Mysterious force sent them back to a time before their birth when they would meet their younger moms and become friends with them.

Both the dramas have time travel and fantasy as the main theme. They talk about family realtionships, about friends, about youth, school, and also about romance. Both the characters have regrets which make them to have time travel. Both of them try to alter their future to have a better ending.

In both, the FLs have complicated, troublesome relationships with their mothers. Somehow they both accidentally go back in time to when their mothers are teenagers in high school. They befriend them and try to prevent their mom from falling in love with their dad.

They are both set in university/college but I don't want to be friends with you started in high school whereas mountains and oceans started in university/college.

Both are heartwarming stories about a group of friends who go through days of high school together. They both take place around similar times (When we were young 1996 and I don't want to be friends with you - early 2000s) and have very similar vibes.

I don’t want to be friends with you is much more complex than this lovely us but they both have similar themes — growing up, friendships, family, love stories that last a life time. They are both dramas that leave you feeling warm inside. I don’t want to he friends with you surely makes you cry a lot more tho but don’t worry it ends well <3

Plots seems similar with the daughter traveling to the past when the time her parents were students. In Linking Love her parents have been together but breaking up but in IDWTBFWY, her mother is a single woman.

Both FL traveled back in time and met the younger version of their mothers. They later became best friends.
