Occult is another documentary style horror film directed by Koji Shiraishi. The story was interesting and filled with Japanese mythology. The buildup from a random act of violence to a series of various related strange occurrences was well done and cohesive. The acting is good as the actors have to come across very natural. The music is one of the best parts of the movie-the sounds are jarring and add to the unsettling tone of the film. Although not as strong a film as Noroi, Occult is still a decent movie worth watching.

Really grew on me after I watched it

Very slow moving horror movie without many visual scares but with an overwhelming and creeping existential dread. Dark, depressing, and fatalistic, but oddly beautiful, building up to a very memorable climax and ending.

Very natural acting, great camerawork, and a really effective soundtrack by Hair Stylistics. I don't know why more horror movies don't opt for music like this. Also if you are looking for it you can find a bootleg ost very easily online to listen to.

Not for everybody, it is very slow moving, but if you are the kind of person who would enjoy a movie like this, you would get a lot out of it, and I would recommend.
