Then the last episode and a half happens and it goes really weird. The cap the season with an explanation, but it made this super short season a little draggy since it was off topic and weird.
So aside from that strange tangent, it is a tight and focused extension of the original series with a bigger budget if the costumes are any indication. You do need to know the original series to enjoy this one since most of the plot is based on storylines from that. If you don’t remember every detail, they give enough detail to jog your memory.
Overall, enjoyable as just a little taste of a series, but that weird turn was just too weird.

This series is good if you have seen the original. This one is about their daughter. The first couple of episodes seem a bit unoriginal and boring, but I urge you to stick with it because there is a intense last few episodes. The acting is the same in that way, kinda blah at first but then WOW. The twist at the end is expected by the viewer if you can catch it, but still crazy! Check it out if you have time!!

It was very nice to see Wu Jinyan back as Wei Yinglou which was actually prob why I decided to watch this to begin with who can't get enough of Wei Yinglou's antics, even though she was only support I very much enjoyed seeing her and a few of the old cast again felt very nostalgic.
If you watched Yanxi palace this is a nice short spin off to enjoy you won't be disappointed .

If the decors, the costumes, the musics and the aesthetics of Princess Adventures are as good as its parent story, the plot is unfortunately overall rushed and wrongly paced. We jump from point A to B without so much in between and make the lot not as interesting as it could have been.
But as disappointed as I was, I was very happy to see the cast and characters once again and see Wei Yingluo as a mother. It also let me know of Rain Wang, which might be the most beautiful Chinese actress I have seen in a while, and jump immediately in Colorful Bones.

Just like the parent story, I'm not familiar with MANY of the actors in this drama either. But it was a cute/CRAZY follow up to the parent story. I actually thought Rain Wang looked so SIMILAR to Qin Lan (Fuca Rongyin)!
This drama was a huge twist though, from Zhao Hua having some sort of "mental" issues, and then Fu Kang'an being led astray buy his uncle. The story was just so intense and sort of closed some of the loose threads we had from the parent story.
The only qualm I had was this drama was too short! I liked the shenanigans and I felt it was a bit rushed.

A hot mess
This show is a total mess. If you find certain plot points of Yanxi ludicrous, you'll find this show batshit insane. Plot makes 0 sense, character motivations make 0 sense, nothing makes sense. Not sure what's the point of this continuation even? To continue to milk the Yanxi name dry? It's only 6 eps so it doesn't waste that much time, but I would still highly advise against watching this. Acting is meh and the newbie actors aren't enough to salvage this hot mess of a show. If you crave more Palace dramas, watch Ruyi instead. Or better yet, watch Wu Jinyan and Xu Kai's upcoming historical drama if you want to see the continuation of their pairing. Was this review helpful to you?

Cute!
Giving this show a cute 7 stars because Ying Luo made me cry at the end. She didn't want to let go of her daughter?? Anyway, this was not as sharp as the parent story, and the plot and characters felt quite juvenile - no surprise since the characters are younger -, but this was nonetheless nice. I think I enjoyed this even more because I loved SOYP so much, it's literally my Roman Empire; saying goodbye to Ying Luo and co for a second time is just cruel. Her scenes ate as always, she literally mothered. I loved that we got to see her playful and scheming side, and how she let Zhao Hua do her own things after gently getting her on the right track. The story itself is honestly kind of crazy (ha!), but it's a cute little 6-episode show that won't hurt you. It's nothing extraordinary, but it delivers nice sets, costumes, decent acting, nice music and a dash of madness. Overall, cute show with some of my favorite characters?.Was this review helpful to you?

Spoilers
A spin-off from Yanxi telling the story of her daughter Zhao Hua and Fu Heng son, Fuk Anggan coming to seek revenge. The only problem, there is only 6 episode.
The produces could have spin a longer story, rather a simply revenge plot
But overall it was memorable, heartfelt, ( watching the children in Yanxi grow up)
Worth to pick it up (However, historically most of Ling fei daughter's died young, so it did not really matter who she ends up with... cause she will be dead anyway)

Watch the Original Yanxi Palace First!
I see most of the reviews are from 4 years ago when this originally aired on Netflix. It's an easy binge watch, maybe half a day due to the length of the episodes and there are only 6. It popped up on my feed and the story quickly sucked me in.The costumes and acting are beautifully done. Not having seen the original Yangxi Palace drama first, I did not have the nostalgia most viewers who have seen it seem to exhibit for the music and original series characters.
As a stand alone series it seemed very rushed, with not enough screen time between the ML and FL, simplistic plot and a few decent plot twist reveals at the end.
In the last episode, I had trouble believing Zhaohua was marrying Lhawang Dorji and kept wanting something to change. They were hardly together on screen. Nothing really dramatic ever happens between them, how can they end up together? The relationship developed between Zhaohua and Fuk'anggan, while fraught with lies seemed to have more depth and chemistry.

Somewhat Disappointing
Different from the original. Not what I was expecting. The original was entertaining, well acted, good story and even had humor in it. I laughed!Well, it the original was a hard act to follow. In this the lead princess Zhaohua was unlikeable. The story wasn't clear either. It did become clear when it took the weird turn in the house of the Step Empress. I was able to put everything together, then. Some didn't like it, but I did because it explained much. The actors took too long to tell the story.
I did enjoy seeing the leads from the original series, though.

This is a nice drama but it cannot compare with its parent story “Story of Yanxi Palace (2018)”. This miniseries is about Ying Luo and Emperor Qian Long’s daughter Imperial Princess Zhaohua. The story is only interesting in the last two episodes but, the storyline needed a whole series to provide the viewer with a more coherent and solid plot. The acting is not so good since the storyline doesn’t allow good character development and only Princess Zhaohua seems to be multidimensional. The only relationships and interactions that were meaningful on this drama are that of Princess Zhaohua and her parents. The cinematography and costumes are beautiful, and the music is the same one from “Story of Yanxi Palace (2018)”. It seems like the drama was done with teenage audience in mind; it has major plot holes and the two leading males were not convincing as leading actors in love with the princess. The story seems to be more about proving that Imperial Princess Zhaohua was very much like her mother Ying Luo. If you are looking for a short nice drama that happens within a historical period, you will find Yanxi Palace: Princess Adventures entertaining. Enjoy it! Was this review helpful to you?

Short but Sweet
Although this drama was pretty short for a Cdrama, I found that they were able to incorporate lots of different aspects into the storyline and I felt satisfied after watching only 6 episodes. Not to mention, the plot and the acting were amazing as well. The actors really brought their roles to life! The only thing I found to be a bit strange was the plot twist in episodes 5-6. I feel like that could have been developed better as it felt really rushed. I understand that they had a limited amount of episodes but they could have hinted at her condition a bit more before those episodes. I watched this without watching the first drama of the series. However, since this is about the main character from the original drama's daughter, I don't really think that you have to watch the first one to understand or enjoy this one. Overall, if you don't have a lot of time or are simply looking for a quality drama to watch, I would definitely recommend this! Was this review helpful to you?
