A surprising hidden gem

This was surprisingly a hidden gem of a show I decided to watch it out of boredom and somehow got hooked in. The cast are alot of new faces so i was kinda skeptical but It has a little bit of everything packed in a nice 24ep show so an easy binge watch . The characters on the main cast are likeable and its fun to see them develop and learn more about each of them. I was not expecting the romance but actually glad they added that in along with some of the more light hearted stuff. I'm not someone who generally enjoys detective dramas but i felt like this was well done. My only beef with this show was who ever audio mixed it has the sound and special effect noises way to loud so its hard to hear the dialogue at times but honestly it didn't bother me enough to not have me watch

1st of all I LOVED Yanxi Palace like loved loved it. So when I saw this was happening I was excited but also scared. All I can say is I never missed a 50 episode series as much as I do now. With only 6 episodes they do a good job of staying true the Yanxi palace universe as I call it but it was rushed and I felt could have been developed way better with more episodes and time. Though I'm not knocking it for the amount they had they still made it work.

It was very nice to see Wu Jinyan back as Wei Yinglou which was actually prob why I decided to watch this to begin with who can't get enough of Wei Yinglou's antics, even though she was only support I very much enjoyed seeing her and a few of the old cast again felt very nostalgic.

If you watched Yanxi palace this is a nice short spin off to enjoy you won't be disappointed .

I'm always intrigued by Qing Dynasty dramas so of course I had to give this a try. I felt from the start it tried to be its own thing even though the premise is a lot similar to Scarlet Heart which any drama lover will know. It was a fun watch it had its problems with the story in how things happened or played out and the how the time travel/ wormhole thing kinda left you head scratching but despite that I still really enjoyed it.

The characters were all interesting and left me wanting to know more about them and see how they grew and I thought everything was well acted. Think my only pet peeve was how much they focus on the older sister at a certain point in the story and I was left wondering who the actual lead was.

I felt the ending was a nice wrap up and didn't leave me wanting more like most dramas do.

My conclusion is if you enjoy Qing dynasty dramas its a fun mash up but take it with a grain of salt and don't expect too much and just enjoy the ride. Its still very much a binge worth drama kept me on my toes all the way through.
