An extremely painful story you will never forget
I don’t know where to begin; there’s so much to say. My friend recommended this drama to me; she said, “this drama made me not want to get married.” I thought she was exaggerating a little but it made me curious so I gave it a shot. She’s not wrong. My initial thoughts were, “oh it’s about a man cheating, of course,” but it’s so much more than that. There were so many unexpected turns and I couldn’t keep still while watching. This drama made me very emotional. It’s an extremely dramatic story which really pierced my heart. There were really beautiful scenes but most of them hurt. I love the female lead but there were a couple of instances wherein I questioned her actions because she was just way too kind. Sometimes I want to get up and do it for her, whack whoever needs to be whacked, you know what I mean.
I am not yet in that marriage phase in my life but this story really hit me hard. It’s the shortest but most dramatic Chinese drama I’ve ever watched. I don’t think I will watch it again because it’s just way too sad. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great drama; the writers and actors did well. I just don’t think I have the energy to put up with such intensity all over again.
This drama taught me a lot of things. It made me think a lot and I feel like I might actually start doubting people because of the betrayal this story portrayed. Sometimes trust isn’t enough. Overall, it’s a great drama, but expect a rollercoaster ride! I’m pretty satisfied with the ending. Great drama!

Chinese version of Big Little Lies?
On YouTube, I saw YoYo promoting this show as the "Chinese version of Big Little Lies." Watching 'Goodbye, My Love,' I actually got 'Big Little Lies' vibes off the overall mood of this. However, in terms of plot and story line, there aren't much similarities. Instead I found myself comparing it to Showtime's 'The Affair," one of my all time favorite shows. It has infidelity, set near the beach, and told from multiple points of view.Back to 'Goodbye, My Love,' the story of a husband cheating on wife is nothing new really, but it manages to keep this tired old plot interesting. There are so many twists and turns. And refreshingly, I didn't see them all coming like usual. The acting is on point, especially by the lead actress. Her character goes through so many emotions and stages. I think that was what I appreciated most about the drama. Nothing was black and white and all the characters had shades of grey. Even the characters that were seemingly the villains were flushed out.
Lastly, a warning to those who don't like open endings. Though I personally liked the ending of this show, a lot of people probably won't. Also, a special mention to the music. The opening and ending theme songs perfectly matched the tone of the show.

Surprisingly Good Drama
I stumbled upon this drama while browsing on Viki by Rakuten. The synopsis looks interesting enough and it only has 12 episodes with 45 minutes each. So I gave it a try. I ended up binge watching this drama in 1.5 days! The story is nothing new. The main theme of the drama is about infidelity. But they way they tell the story keeps you curious and interested with the plot twists and turns that I hadn't expected. I didn't like the ending though, it's an open ending and will depend on viewer's interpretation. I never like open endings like this (maybe the producers left it like that to have the possibility for a second season?)Was this review helpful to you?
