Soon Young is a young girl who is the head of her family. She lives with her mentally handicapped father, unscrupulous uncle and younger sister, Soon Ja, who is always ill. Younger sister Soon Ja plays with her Barbie doll every day and dreams of one day living in the United States. Meanwhile, Mang Taek comes into contact with an American man interested in adopting a healthy Korean girl. Mang Taek arranges a deal for the American man to adopt Soon Young. When her younger sister, Soon Ja, hears of the adoption, she becomes jealous and asks to take the place of her older sister. The history seems a little messed up in the beginning but it becomes very clear as it explains the pretty well done critical base behind it. It's one of those situations where you don't know what you would do.
The composition of the movie is also very good,it goes neither too fast nor too slow. I had no problems with that. There were just a few things that wasnt explained about the characters but these things didn't make the movie meaningless so it was kind of ignored.
And we can't forget the acting. Those little girls were absolutely amazing and the mentally handicapped father made no clue of his great acting.
I think talk about how much we have overrated the U.S., asian and whole world dream about America all his life.
People who by necessity or greed, accepts or helps make these horrible acts without thinking... It's sad to think that such situations exist in real life.
Great actors, great story, great everything.
