The big city is a heartless place, and contemporary Beijing, where the money is the new emperor, is no exception. Xiao Bei has come to Beijing to go to school, but the realities of life in the capital catch up to her, and she attempts to drown herself. As chance would happen, her saviour, Gong Ping, is a young man with no hands. Gong Ping rescues her in more ways than one; he takes her home to his single mother and is watchful for any further signs of attempted suicide. Slowly Gong Ping helps Xiao Bei regain her desire to live. But Xiao Bei's troubles aren't over. In an effort to help the orphanage where she and Gong Ping have volunteered, Xiao Bei has reverted to scamming couples in search of a surrogate mother. When her hoax comes to light, Gong Ping's feelings for Xiao Bei are put to another test. Edit Translation

I felt very confused during many of the scenes and though some things did start to make sense as I continued to watch the movie, I still was left feeling rather confused at the end. I'm not sorry I watched it though, just more so sorry that I didn't understand as much of it as I think I could have. I think I'll watch it again sometime in the future though, to see if it makes more sense to me on the second viewing.
