Jung Woo, an NTS (National Anti-Terror Service) agent, is assigned on a mission in Italy while he was getting involved with Hae In who works at the NIS (National Intelligence Service) but in the public relations department. The South Korean president's daughter is kidnapped by terrorists when Korea develops a new nuclear technology that will shake the world energy market. In a situation where it can become a national emergency, the US shows its support by dispatching its head of East-Asia at DIS (Department of Information for Security) named Son Hyuk. But most surprisingly, Jung Woo finds a "black agent" joining them, a top-secret organization within NIS that only takes on impossible missions and that it is no one other than Hae In. And there, the three make their fateful encounter. With Hae In's remarkable help, NTS rescues the president's daughter, and having revealed her identity, she is assigned as Jung Woo's partner while Son Hyuk is ordered by the U.S. government to supervise any further developments of South Korea. As South Korea gets closer to completing the new nuclear reactor, numerous terrors begin against them. Jung Woo discovers that there is a secret society called Athena that has great power over the world's energy resources and that they are the ones behind them. But as he gets closer to finding out the truth, mysterious events unravel and he finds pieces of evidence that indicate that both Hae In and Son Hyuk are involved with Athena. Reviews
Superficial film with a lot of guns.
The action scenes are filmed very well. We can enjoy chases and fight scenes, explosions, rifle fire and sniper hunts and at last handsome fighting boys. But it’s almost everything that I can say about this movie. The scenario is flat and not interesting. Something about a nuclear staff and there is a traitor in every room. The Korean style of the romance between enemies seems to be forced and unconvincing although the female lead Park Soo Ae is a real star here.
The cast is good (and pretty), the entourage in Italy and Japan are good as well.
The film is an attempt at a new approach to the theme of a gang war that is well known in Korean cinematography but the fighters have better guns and they work in secret service and they can travel around the world. I can say it’s a higher level of action entertainment.
The best part of the film is the title “Athena: Goddess of War”. I wish the rest were so good.
Mission Galore
Though it seem to resembles somewhat another Mission Impossible story having similar aspects like firepower, locations, women and gadget specialists, I ought to give at least nice credits to the firepower to the main agents almost at par with their Hollywood agent counterparts. Another were the choice locations in Italy, New Zealand and Japan. And of course the funny sidekicks. Encore also goes to the acts of Cha Seung-won and Jung Woo-sung for their roles as main agents.I also love the soundtrack of the series.
