SPOILERS

A much calmer episode with some character development and just a bit movement of the plot forward.Gao visits Liu Xiang but during the meeting Liu Xiang dies by what it looks like self-poisoning, therefore suicide. The incident is reported to the empress who takes it as a confession of guilt. Gao, Siyue and Erlang have a brief confrontation as they believe Gao is somehow responsible for this death, which actually is an obstacle to their investigation as Liu Xang, the last witness who could lead them to someone higher up, is now dead. When Liu Ran discovers the dead body of her uncle she is inconsolable, and things become even worse for her when Erlang tells her that her uncle had a hand in the murder of his father. There was a touching moment between the couple when Erlang tries to visit her in the room where she is secluded but she doesn't answer; it goes to show the ground Erlang needs to cover to become an actual partner to his wife, which he is unable to do right now. The Ghetto (the Unwelcomed Well of previous episodes, the place where Gao hails from) is finally unsealed by the authorities and the administrator goes to Gao to inform him about it. Gao feels a failure that he couldn't expose the real killer of his comrades and now that Liu Xiang is dead all seems lost. The issue of the stolen copper is not settled though: they all independently realize that a large part of the copper is still missing since the counterfeit coins they discovered in the meantime cannot account for all of it. They suspect that the Four Seasons, an secret organization in the capital, is responsible for all the deaths. Erlang visits the Ghetto and with the help of a little street bum he finds a hidden workshop where weapons are manufactured.
