"Who's the leading man of my life?" -There is no such person for that role.
Dramas never failed to deliver fairytales... with happily ever after themes, fantasies that could never come true in real life, with the most perfect characters without any flaws, and even upside-down character development that the lead might be a jerk at the beginning but till the 16th episode he's an angel. To think of it, it's really hard to find something in dramaland, that we could relate to.. or even say, "ah this has happened with me." "Oh, I've been in this situation"... "I know how does it feel." This is why Yumi's Cells is different, it never tries to portray something picture-perfect or flawless... rather shows how things-relationships-emotions work in real life, well realistic portrayal? is it sound boring? don't worry we've got a lot of cells to keep you entertained.
It lives up to its name 'Yumi's Cells' is only about her... her cells, her life, her relationship, it never distracts or goes on the wrong path. We see this story from her narrative from her cells narrative. It's almost 50% animation... I never imagined I would love drama with a cocktail of animation, but I did.. way more than what I imagined, Cells are the stars of the show, they are everything. I love how accurately it managed to show how the brain or our emotions work.
Kim Go Eun did an amazing job. Honestly, this role was challenging. Curious, why? Just think of it we're watching a normal drama... any incident happens we get to know how that person feels through his/her reaction-expression, we can never guess what's happening in their head (unless we already getting to know due to storytelling or know their exact thoughts) so at the end of the day, it depends on actor.. and their acting how emotion gonna covey to us. But here it's a different case coz we exactly know how she's feeling... what's her mood and what's happening in her brain (literally). So she has to show every emotion that we do know from her cells with her expressions. And she did it! even a slight change was visible through her micro emotions, she lived Yumi.
I usually talk about characterization in my reviews, but I feel this is insignificant here, leads are just like any normal person... like me, like you, like us. Facing normal real-life problems, real difficulties in the relationship, without any dramatization-cliches-tropes. We don't need something grand to happen to start or end any relationship... it happens with time, with small things. And this is the essence of it. It happens, it's okay! not the end of the world... as loving only one person is not the only purpose of life itself.
For those who might feel some characters are one-dimensional, like Sae-Yi, Ruby, and even Woong sometimes... it's not even the point here, coz we never get to explore any of them in real, we see them from one perspective which is Yumi's so how are we supposed to know every shade of them. This is not lazy writing but it wasn't intended to start with.
The amount of second-hand embarrassment I've got from this drama is insane. It's cute-sweet-cringey-heart fluttering-emotionally heavy-embarrassing-realistic at the same time, that's the specialty of it. And of course, the cells are show-stealer there wasn't a split second where I was bothered by animation... I loved watching them, arguing-fighting with each other. Helping each other while deciding important decisions snd being there for each other... they were like important characters of the show having their own persona. Ah the cameos of different cells were amazing lol
This isn't a conventional and normal drama story that follows the path that every drama has, it's different, it's unique, and quite refreshing.... but watch it to try something new, it never promised of being extraordinary.
Lastly...
Who the heck was the stylist?
It took me forever to get warmed up for their hairstyle -_-

Your destiny is a matter of your choices.
"Yumi's Cell" is indeed an unique drama you'll ever get to witness with an entirely different approach to showcase human psychological behaviour, their relationships and their lives. This drama is an example of how the simplest of stories can be made interesting, meaningful and valuable with the use of a creative mind, and an idiosyncratic storytelling method. I naturally came here for the cast but despite a decent performance from them what kept me hooked was "the cells." The cells took over the star-studded cast, I swear. Before anything else, let's spare some moment to praise and applause the writer of the original webtoon writer of the same title, Lee Dung Gun, who has done a very commendable job with their creative approach and analytical mind. This work will force the audience to keep everything else at one side and look up to the drama as the episode goes by.
If you see, the storyline and basic plot of "Yumi's Cell" is not anything new or of that sort but what makes it stand out on a far high level is the utilization of various kinds of 'cells' of the body; not the biological cells, but the cells representing various types of emotions, expressions and important factors of our lives. Then, the way everything has been executed with the appropriate use of science, psychology and technology, makes the entire thing even more interesting. Basically, most of them are brain cells, coordinating with the entire body and Yumi's mental health.
The drama is basically a romcom, with some "slice of life" of elements and whatever shown in here might seem silly, but my dear, these are the real-life relationship issues that every single couples go through in a dating relationship. The seemingly slow screenplay in the later half of the show, is nothing but the gradual buildup in a relationship, that we don't always see in Kdramas. The chemistry development and story progression is in fact very light and instead of the cast, the cells play the key roles here, hence it's a story of the cells portrayed through the human beings.
The Cells here are not the cells you think, these are rather tiny smurf-like cartoons or let's say human beings, playing different cells inside Yumi. Yumi, in the story, is a simple girl, living a simple life, maintaining the balance between her work and almost nonexistent personal life. The basic plot is about Kim Yu Mi (Kim Go Eun) & Gu Woong (Ahn Bo Hyun), them coming together, trying to date, ending up a relationship and then the most important part, maintaining it with their best efforts. Yes, that sums up the entire story, then what's interesting in it? It's the action of these cute little cells that narrates what exactly happens inside Yumi while all these things happen.
The justifying title shined very bright because the drama when says Yumi's Cell, it signifies solely Yumi and everything about her; It's only her who thinks, analyses, examines and makes choices for herself. The human-like cells and their convictions are what makes Yumi function as a human being and whatever happens is always a processs that relies on factors, that only Yumi has control over. The cells are in fact very humane, their actions are impetuous and has the reflection of naturalness. Though presented in the form of animation, the screenplay is realistic and relatable to a great deal. Again, the implementation has been done in such a way, the cell village and their interactions just feels like our daily lives; evoking every kind of emotions. It's infact also funny in regards of this, as in the stupid yet seemingly sensible causes behind the cells' behaviour and their responses with the given stimuli, that make it an interesting watch throughout.
The screenplay distribution between the cells and the real humans is very appropriately done, I must say. The cells, without any doubt, got more screentime than the cast, which is only fair but whatever the cast got was a perfect combination as well. The simultaneous screenplay through the live actions of the cells, showing their rapid & spontaneous response to everything, is such a cheerful and exciting thing that you keep wishing for more. Lee Sang Yeob PDnim is not a new face in the industry, but given the concept of the drama and his period of existence in the rapidly-changing technological aspects of production, he has done a very wonderful job in directing, managing and editing the entire drama and every single thing has been implemented very well.
The screenwriters, however changed for the drama, have done a good job in setting up the entire story. I can't judge their work while comparing it with the original webtoon because I haven't read it at all, so for me, their job was amazingly done and their experience actually shows from the script.
There are so many things about this drama to fall in love with and at the same time, there are few plots plus elements to get mad about. But then, while considering reality and judging from the perspective of characters, I tended to shift my way of thinking, which helped me to a great extent in understanding and relating to them. Because, irl, we never know someone very well to predict their moves and assume what they're thinking, that's basic human psychology.
Ahn Bo Hyun's effortless fashion sense was also something that had attracted me to the drama and for first few episodes I was so very happy seeing him but the biggest disappointment about the drama is the fact that, they changed it. Idk about anyone else, but I wanted Gu Woong to keep up with his looks; his long hair, his Bohemian beard, his choice of outfits, him in short pants, everything about him was so enticing, oof. I will always be mad about it TT.
A great message that the drama also served is that, every single being has some flaws and nobody is that perfect to be doing the "only right" actions all the times. We commit mistakes, hold onto it, then come to realise our actions, try to solve it, reflect on it with guilt and finally try to overcome it; this is life. Not just Yumi and Woong, it was also the major side characters like Seo Se Yi (Park Ji Hyun), Ruby (Lee Yoo Bi), Yoo Ba Bi or Bobby ( Park Jin Young), Chae Wu Gi (Choi Min Ho) and in fact the cells, all of them go through the same process. Some characters are one-dimensional and weren't much explained but again, the story is from Yumi's pov, so the side characters are what she thinks they're.
I am happy about Jin Young and Minho being here, which I was unaware of before the drama started airing; even more happy about their character arcs. Didn't except Minho to be playing such a character (you'll know what when you watch) though he's a very minor character who appears sometimes randomly; nevertheless, he also was a key reason for the happenings of the basic plot. Jin Young also is a minor character in s1 but from what I read about the webtoin in short, he shares a good amount of timing in s2 serving a major role in further in the story, hopefully.
There is no manual for dating, there's no order for the sequence of events that should happen in a relationship as long as it's meant to be. Don't force everyone into your ideals that are basically stereotypes and makes people think that deviating from it is a taboo, which in turn also affects their mental health. I said this because in the course of the drama ongoing, I've seen people complaining about the direction of Yumi & Woong's relationship and how that felt boring and honestly, it turns a lil slow from 9th episode onwards but what we should also remember that, constant failure is very real. And not everything follows as we wish them to; things not necessarily happen right the next time just because it was wrong in the previous one. This reminds me a quote from the drama "Start-up" that said, "Time doesn't heal all the wounds". I liked how the motive of the story changed from a simple romcom to a relationship progression from there, which at first, I thought would not be interesting.
Obviously, in a relationship one is more insecure than the other but those insecurities are not always from the experiences of past relationships but can also be the result of own's convictions and conclusions. It's okay to be indecisive when it comes to vital turning points of life, because it's not so easy to just clap and make choices instantly. We learn through thin & thicks over time and thar period time varies from person to person. Even in a room full of 100 people, every single one differs by 0.001% from the other and that's okay. Noone is 100% honest in their relationships, there are things that you fear to share even with the closest person of your life, assuming that might affect whatever is there between. All these things are closesly associated with our psychology and thinking process which has to vary, otherwise life would have been very simple without any pain, that is practically impossible.
The drama also throws light on One's "Priorities". Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important. When you know what's most important to you, making a decision is quite simple. But it's not the case in real. As I said, we learn things over time. Another element is courage that again reminds of this quote, "Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore." That also applies to relationships, because If you are lucky enough to find a way of life you love, you have to find the courage to live it.
The ending.... Umm yes it has a sad ending but sad endings are not bad endings and again the definition of happiness & sadness or good & bad is upon ones perceptions. It was made obvious that there'll be another season since the webtoon is awfully lengthy, but I was still praying them to wrap up though I knew what'll happen. Not like I don't want more, it's just I am very impatient and anxious to wait for a year. Anyways, I don't think the very ending was absurd and since we have another season left, I wish for good.
There could be things that won't please you but I must repeat, this drama is about the cells and not the human beings. Watching it with an open mind will surely help you like it and it'll naturally grown upon you. It's entertaining, cheerful and definitely a mood buster. For me, it was a beautiful and decent watch which I needed after watching 3 thriller dramas back to back and I am sure I loved the entire thing, especially the cells. So the purpose and goal of the story has been causally served, if you're in love with the cells. Please go for it.

In My Own Opinion
I love watching this show because the Cell Village literally gives visual justice to everyone's thinking and emotions. The story is very realistic and relatable. Of all the dramas that I've watch, (Cdrama, Jdrama and Kdrama) (minus the cell village part) the plot of this story is closest to reality. It shows the different types of relationships a man and a woman can have The Toxic Type, The Long Distance Type, The Friends Attracted to Each Other Type, The Affectionate Type, The Meant to be Type, The One Sided Type and so on. It also shows the ups and downs of man-woman relationship that it's not always rainbow you see and that the reality is no man or woman is overly dedicated to the person they like. Sometimes relationships experiences storm and dealing with it head on is the best solution. Temptation is always there, so GOODLUCK with those one man- woman persona of most of the ML in drama as this one sets a new standard. " THE REALITY STANDARD." I also like that it uncovers the different types of people you will meet and deal with in the work place. It also exhibits the different relationships with other people. The Confidant Relationship, The Colleague Only Relationship, The Like-Hate Relationship, The Superior- Subordinate Relationship, ect. Watching this drama in a deeper perspective, you will find that there is no way the story is light and fluffy. The story of this drama is base on the real experiences of day to day life of real people and that real people I am pertaining to is US. And what's going on our brain and how it thinks, reacts and functions was visually represented by the cute dimensional characters in the drama. Was this review helpful to you?
A simple and ordinary story told with the most imaginative way
Stories with many plot-twists, complicated storytelling are most of the times what we are looking for because they can easily catch our attention. However, a simple story can be good if it’s done right and in a creative way. That’s the case with “Yumi’s cells”.“Yumi’s cells” is a romcom but not a common one. It’s a light drama that everyone who loves romcoms can see and enjoy. If you have a bad day, “Yumi’s cells” will bring a smile to your face and brighten up your day. To be fair though, “Yumi’s cells” is not everyone’s cup of tea. The things which make the story enjoyable and unique can also work the other way around. Let’s see what these things are.
The story
“Yumi’s cells” tells the story of Yumi and her brain cells. Yumi is an ordinary girl, living an ordinary life. We are basically seeing Yumi’s love life and her daily struggles. There’s nothing special about Yumi’s life, nothing extreme or mind blowing is going to happen, so why is this story special? Here is where Yumi’s cells come into the picture.
There are plenty of stories where biological functions of the human body were explained as actions of small creatures living inside the human body. These small creatures can be portraying cells, organs, emotions and so on. In Yumi’s cells they are portraying her cells. Through the cells we see Yumi’s thoughts, emotions, habits, how she is making her decisions and literally everything about her character.
The whole philosophy behind cells’ actions is very creative and well written. Cells' thoughts and actions are very natural and spontaneous and it’s quite amazing how the impact of these is working on Yumi. It feels accurate and at some point, very realistic. Thus, the watchers can easily relate with Yumi and feel all kinds of her emotions and understand completely the cause of her actions. Apart from this, there is also a very funny perspective about the cause of many behaviors and also allegories of some body functions that makes the story really funny and enjoyable.
The Webtoon
The story is based on a webtoon by the same name, written by Donggeon Lee. The webtoon contains 512 episodes and the original run was from April 1st 2015 to November 13th 2020. The drama’s first season consists of chapters 1 until 206 of the webtoon. As I have read the webtoon, I have to mention some differences that make the drama good or bad at some points.
The storyline hasn’t changed much, the milestones of Yumi’s life are all there. One main difference is that they have cut many scenes from the cells and added more to the humans. That way, the screen time between cells and humans is balanced which is a good thing cause the story focused more to Yumi and not to the cells like the webtoon. They also cut some episodes from webtoon that were fillers. Thus, the story is more fast paced than the webtoon.
However, cutting many scenes is also a problem as it destroys the natural flow of the story. The story is moving way too fast and it doesn’t leave any space for the relationships’ dynamics to develop. That’s why some situations seem a little bit rushed or/and forced.
A personal negative about the cutting scenes is that many of them are my favorite parts of the story. I was excited to watch these particular scenes on the drama but they never appeared so it’s only logical that I was sad and disappointed about it.
Another difference is that they reconstructed some scenes by combining two or three different chapters of the webtoon as the please, without chronological order. They also added some extra scenes that haven’t been on the webtoon. This was expected to happen, as it happens all the time with the webtoon adaptations. Some of the episodes that have many changes are 5,6 and 7.
I don’t mind changes, if they don’t affect the story and the characters as much. There is one thing that bothered me, a lot. They made Yumi a liar and that pushed her into very awkward situations, many times and, of course, created unnecessary drama. Yumi is a very honest person and that destroyed her image a lot.
The production
Making a live action for the Yumi’s cells wasn’t an easy task. That’s because they had to mix live action with animation which is very risky. Fortunately, I think they combined these two genres perfectly.
As I said before, they cut many scenes from the cells and added more to the humans so there was a balance between the animation and the live action. That way, the watchers didn’t get tired of the animation scenes. The scene transitions between the animation and the live action were also very well executed and discreet which also helped the viewers to get used to the animation. The first two episodes will feel a little off but after them, you will enjoy watching this combination.
The animation style that has been used is 3D animation. Before watching the drama I had my doubts if the animation would turn out bad or good. After watching the drama though, I can say that the animators have done a very good and detailed job and I was very satisfied with the result. The only reason to dislike the animation I think would be because some people generally don’t like animation or are experts and see all the errors a common eye like mine can’t see.
Overall, Yumi’s Cells is not the romcom we usually get to see in dramaland (especially in kdramas). It had some flaws and I wasn’t fully satisfied with the adaptation but I’m happy that now more people know about this unique story. I hope in the future we will see more romcoms that won’t follow the usual clichés and give us something fresh and beautiful, like Yumi’s Cells did.

A Realistic drama
Not the usual ending for Kdrama but it is exactly how relationship ends in real life. The whole story itself is so realistic that you cant really tell whether its a drama or a real relationship. There are fluffy and sad moments. On the other hand I like how they put the animations specially the cells. Its like watching another drama.
Short Kdrama but worth your time.
Music is also matching the actual drama.
This drama can be tagged as a melodrama instead of a romance or romantic comedy theme..
And what I learned from this is yourself is your greatest enemy. And dont look for a person to complete you. Look for a person to be with you when your complete.

Real, intimate, at times devistating, Yumi's Cells is an adult romance take on Pixar's Inside Out.
That isn't to say that the Pixar animated tale wasn't adult in its own right, it very much was, but the story there focused on an adolescent and was the most adult when dealing with the drivers inside of her mind. Here, Yumi is at its most adult when we are dealing with the real world or the grown-up protagonist and, unfortunately, is at its most childish, and disappointing, when dealing with cells and their functionality within her.If I was honestly going to choose my largest complaint about the series, it is by far the animated portions. The animation itself is subpar, the characters all act like children, and how they handle, respond, and decide to go about things inside of Yumi, and at times Woong (Our Male Lead), is as if it is the first time any of these cells have had to make an adult decision in their existence. The cells are, well, a plot device to try and say this isn't just another romance but something different and basically serve as the comic relief of an otherwise very honest and real tale. I could have easily done without them and at times wish they weren't a part of the story.
That isn't to say they don't add a great way to see some of the inner turmoil of our characters, and is a refreshing narrative approach to keep from having to watch the characters constantly look off to the side while speaking to no one about their desires and feelings as most Kdrama's tend to do. ( This is probably in my top 3 overall complaints of Kdrama's as a medium.) It was nice to just see the actors ACT with their faces and bodies instead of their mouths, as the cartoons took the burden of letting us know their dilemmas.
However, when the story stays in the real world of Yumi it becomes a harrowing journey to behold. So strong, so emotional, so earnest in its take on love and life that it MORE than overshadows any faults that can be found elsewhere. Yumi is as real as a person can be and just as broken. As we watch her navigate her blossoming feelings, and simultaneously come to understand her past and all the baggage that was created getting to this point in her life, we very easily see ourselves, our friends, or our family members.
Kim Go Eun shines in her role. She is beautiful, but still common. Strong, but still unsturdy. Detached, but still warm. The subtleties she brings to our protagonist Yumi is raw, unguarded, and relatable. While you will find yourself frustrated with Yumi as a character at times, especially in the latter few episodes before we reach the end of the series, Go Eun will keep you firmly on her side, and make you understand almost every action she takes.
Ahn Bo Hyun is also winning in his role of Woong. He is equal parts sexy and adorable, kind and selfish, caring and cold. He is arguably the MOST broken of the two leads, and his flaws affect the story and their romance more than hers. That you still like him, care for him, and yes root for him, when there are times he is clearly in the wrong, shows how effective both Woong is as a character and Bo Hyun is in his delivery of him.
All the other characters are very much side dishes. Every single one of them come off just as authentic as our leads, but really only exist to keep the world Yumi and Woong alive and feeling full. The character of Sae Yi has the most impact on our tale outside of our couple. Park Ji Hyun plays her effectively as someone who isn't a villain as much as a person with their own agenda and motives. Sae Yi is almost a female Iago here, her influence on Woong directing his actions more than her outright doing dastardly deeds. She is still a real person and not a cartoon. While you may not find her the nicest individual, you will still find parts of you inside her, and see her as a real person. Something that more often than not is not the case for the enemies in Kdramas.
The series is steady in its delivery and pacing. It doesn't rush to get to plot points and doesn't lag never going anywhere. There is never a time, when watching, you wish that we could just move on. This is taking too long. Or, this is just filler and there could have been less. In fact, in one of the few times watching, I was disheartened there was only 14 episodes instead of the normal 16-20. I would have loved to spend more time here.
Season 2 is already confirmed, and shooting, and yes there are characters you meet in season 1 that seem designed to be dealt with later on in other seasons. Here we meet them, understand their beginnings, and get whiffs of what is to come, but they still remain mostly innocuous for the story of these 14 episodes. This is fine, since season 2 is happening, but would have been a detraction, and a waste of actors and time, if this story was all that ended up being made.
Yumi's Cells will stick with you. It will jolt your emotions, light your anger, spark your desires, and cause you to swoon at its stars and their romance. But it never sugar coats the world and life. People are subjected to societal standards so ingrained in them that they cannot move past the insecurities it causes. People have their own issues brought on by a lifetimes journey and all the pitfalls they have already worked against. People hurt and cause pain and this story runs through the gamut of it all. Undoubtedly one of the most honest tales I've had the pleasure of watching from South Korea. 9.0/A/4.5 Stars, shouldn't be missed by anyone who enjoys journeys of the heart.

Too much emotional baggage
I felt that the actors did a good job with what they were given. The concept of the "cells" was cute, but as we move further into the drama they are used more and more, and I felt it got very repetitive as a means to make more episodes. My biggest problem with the show was the characters. Yumi - we are told that this is her third relationship. I must say I can see why. She was immature and needy, and wanted a relationship just because she was lonely. I know that this is unrealistic of me, but part of the reason I watch romances is to see love develop, and I like to feel like the person has found their perfect love. This was a case of "love the one you're with". I also have a problem with people having a physical relationship when ultimately the relationship doesn't work out. That just takes away the "specialness" in showing physical intimacy as part of a love relationship. Ku Woong - why they made him so scraggly looking is beyond me. He was emotionally stunted and wasn't willing to stand up for the relationship. Seo Sae Yi - Ku Woong's "friend" that wanted to be more. She was manipulative and worked hard to destroy Yumi and Woong's relationship, and Woong let her. Ruby - just overall irritating throughout, with the high voice, trying to be cute.
We were led to believe that the couple fell in love basically by looking into one another's eyes. I didn't feel that they had a strong emotional connection, and I didn't feel any chemistry between them. Throughout so much of this show I wanted to yell at the tv "just say something!". There was an inordinate amount of time of staring into space, or staring at one another, to the point that I felt like they just forgot their lines.
Big spoiler here - oh my gosh, the ending! I sat through hours of a relationship that I didn't really believe or care about (because I'm not a quitter!) to just have them look at each other, unemotionally, and agree to break up, and then go their separate ways. Needless to say, I won't be watching the follow-up to this show.

best of 2021, best of "romcom"
tbh I'm not a fan of romcoms, or romance genres in kdramas, and it's not because I look down on them, but they're always so repetitive, and that's why this show was so greatit had a normal meeting, normal relationship, flawed characters, crushes, heartbreaks, goodbyes, new meetings. it was not "destiny", it was not "perfect", there were no evil mother in laws, no orphans, no poor fl/rich ml, no corruption, this was a slice of life romcom~
yumi had a job, she was independent even though she easily let love "change" her values. but as time went on she learned and grew.
the "evil" 2fl was not a random force trying to break them up, there was history, reasons and conclusions
also, woong was not loved by everyone just because he was the ml xD usually the jerkest of the jerks have their own fanbase and no one can complain about their many flaws, but here people accepted it
and, the people who criticized him learned to love him and get heartbroken in the end ;) he was not bad, he was not selfish, he was naive and inexperienced just like everyone else. he had his dreams and he wished for love, he just didn't know how to balance them and that's so relatable
I'm actually sad this ended so fast, I hope s2 comes out fast ;(
I've always wanted a show where the ml wasn't set in stone, and thanks to a spoiler that was thrown at me, I know the 2nd season won't be cut and paste either xD
this, this actually is kinda like How I met Your Mother xD you don't know who the "husband" is and that's fun, not for 7 seasons, but it's fun and new
tbh, since it is seasoned and there needs to be a "finale" the last ep was meh, but I just loved the whole journey. also the ost was lit, it had gaho after all~

Refreshing love story told - Inside Out style!
It's not every day that Korean dramas ever shown relationships so ordinary before - from the simple moments of coming home after buying groceries to going on their first trip together! Seriously, when have you ever watched a drama that has shown even a break-up before? I know I haven't! It's almost always been sunshines and rainbows for every typical K-drama couple once they get together. This drama gets down on all the little things a SO can do to the tick the other. It is absolutely refreshing seeing every little thing felt and portrayed by the cartoon cells. Through the cells and this drama, I realized how much communication is key. It takes two to tangle, and I love that both characters have their own flaws in contributing to the downfall of the relationship. So realistic, that I couldn't help but talk about every little scene throughout the drama with my friend and SO. But, I must admit some parts felt like fillers or moved too slow.
Overall, I definitely recommend Yumi's Cells for the most realistic and creative portrayal of relationships!

The most realistic KDrama I have EVER watched...
I love the realistic approach this drama takes to relationships and people's thought processes. I truly appreciate the webtoon writer's efforts to depict the feelings that come into play for every decision a character makes, and so accurately and realistically at that. I'm sure it must have taken a lot of analysis and an extremely high EQ. I did not read the webtoon but I do know the full story. Since the show is so well-made and seems to stay true to the original story-line, I have decided not to read the webtoon, but I am currently enjoying another work from the same author and I see the same qualities in this other webtoon as well (read Daily JoJo, it's just as good as Yumi's cells).OK, now off with the review we go:
STORY:
The story is literally the best and most realistic one among all the KDramas I have ever watched. It makes you relate to and agree with the FL so deep. Honestly, I didn't want to watch the drama at first because of the cells (I was like: Animation?! Really?!). But man am I happy not to miss out on this amazing piece of work, ESPECIALLY the cells. They might be animated characters, but they are what makes the story so realistic. They let you decipher every feeling and thought the characters have, and they do it in an adorable way. I don't want the review to contain any spoilers so I can't give you examples, but if you have ever dated before, you will find yourself relating to the characters and enjoying the cell village the most.
ACTING/CAST:
Honestly, nothing was outstanding about the human characters' acting. The roles were not that challenging. However, I still loved Woong and Yumi's chemistry. They reminded me of my bitter-sweet memories of me and my ex. What I truly enjoyed was the voice actors' performance. It's really hard to hook me up to animation characters, but the voices were well-casted and well-performed, especially the emotional cell. All in all, I enjoyed the acting enough, and I'd gladly forgive any acting/casting shortcomings for the sake of the story.
MUSIC:
I always say in my reviews (not that I have written many of them) that I have a pretty particular taste in music and my opinion doesn't really count in that department. While none of the OSTs made me go back and listen to them, I did find them well-aligned with the mood.
REWATCH VALUE:
I can say with confidence that I will go back to this drama multiple times in the future, especially when the 2nd season (and hopefully the third) come out. It definitely is worth the time.
OVERALL:
I give this drama an overall score of 10 because the story matters to me way more than the acting and the music. I loved it and enjoyed it to my heart's content. Hope you all enjoy it as well...

Lots of cute animation screen time - you either love it or hate it.
Completed - 6/15/2022 - 8.25I hesitated to watch "Yumi's Cells" when this drama first aired in 2021, as I wasn't sure if I would like all the animation. After finished watching the drama, I can say that I found them cute, but they took up a lot of screen time. I do understand that this drama is called "Yumi's Cells" and not "Yumi", but still.....
I find the animation cute and I love all the cells. I like their different personalities and they bring a lot of laughter to this drama, e.g. Naughty cell, Housekeeping cell and Hunger cell. However, it took me a while to get used to the back-and-forth transitions and the large amount of screen time. The frequent transitions to the animation disrupts the flow of the story and slows down the pacing, especially in the last few episodes. I got a little bored when the plot is not moving along and we got stuck in the same situation.
The acting is great. It's a fun character for Kim Go Eun to play and she was able to display a variety of emotions as Yumi. Ahn Bo Hyun finally gets a main role where he gets the girl. I also like his portrayal of Gu Woong. The rest of the cast is fine. Park Jin Young has a small role in season 1 and I don't think I see him enough to say that he's done a great job. He's pretty to look at but Ahn Bo Hyun has a hot body! (LOL) Ruby is a controversial character for me. I find her SUPER annoying 90% of the time but when she was teaching Yumi how to do 'aegyo', that was hilarious. I wish to see her more in season 2 but in a less annoying fashion.
The romance between Yumi and Woong was really cute in the beginning. Their personalities match and they do silly and adorkable things. Woong cares about Yumi and shows his affections through actions instead of empty words. The birthday episode really did show his affections, thus, prompted Yumi to ask that question. However, pride and the lack of communication get in the way. The damage is already done when Woong priorities changed. As much as I like Woong in the beginning episodes, I am very annoyed with his repeated lack of communication. You can still communicate with someone you care about without hurting your pride.
Since season 2 is currently airing, most people already know by now who Yumi ends up or not end up with. I would be very disappointed if I didn't know season 2 is coming, because season 1 did not end with Yumi feeling empowered and strong. I wish for her to realize that she could be happy without being in a relationship. She does not need to work like a dog to fill her life, like after her previous breakup. As the manager of the bulletin board said, there is no male lead and we don't need one.

Kim Go Eun Is The Gem On This Show
What A Wonderful Ride. This Show Is The Most Realistic A Not Your Typical Kdrama. Well The Synopsis Is Simple Normal And Everyday Life of Kim Yumi And Her cells How the Cells React in each situation Nicely Done. All The Cast Are Great And To the Voice actors/actress And To All Crew. Now What makes This Drama special,
Aside from the unique combination of animation × live action And The realistic Story Kim Go eun literally the yumi in us. The way her eyes and expression in each situation and the change of her emotion makes this drama so so realistic. Not so cringe but Not So emotionless. What an actress she is.
