Sigh, from a Black American!

Season 1 and season 2 of Penthouse were good, but honestly, season 3 was not needed, and is silly. I dropped Penthouse Season 3, before episode 2 even aired. If you don't know by now, episode 2 is when the Penthouse writers show their racism by having an Asian American actor dress like a stereotypical Black American man. Note: the percentage of Black American men who dress like that is far less than Black American men who do not dress like that. FYI it's also important to mention that I don't see a problem dressing that way. The reason why Penthouse Season 3, episode 2 is problematic is because when Black Americans go anywhere, for example South Korea, Koreans think that it's okay to approach black people by using discriminatory slang, like yo-yo, gang-gang, that or they are afraid of black people, thinking we want to rob them. FYI, I noticed the subliminal racism in season 2; the Black American actors were thugs, while the White American actors were having fun in a bar or were businessmen. If you're interested in understanding systemic racism please click on the following link [https://youtu.be/FdrNuSw0yII].

The reason why I dropped this show after watching episode 1 in season 3, is because it was too unrealistic. I know that it's a fictional drama, but there has to be something that we can identify with. For example, in episode 1, Joo Dan Tae / Mr. Baek leaves jail and is transported to a hospital, he has heavy bleeding, and he makes 3 stops before going back to the hospital. One of the stops that he makes is pulling up to the house of the governor (or some political figure) in a tractor truck, while bleeding out. LIKE, SERIOUSLY? What made me decide to call it quits, was the last 5 minutes of episode 1 in season 3, when they push Cheon Seo Jin off of the cliff. So, Shim Soo Ryun becomes the same person, she spent the last 2 seasons trying to imprison.

Nonsense plot, completely worse acting than previous seasons

Penthouse was my go-to K-drama but sadly, it only cultivated an interest in me for the first 2 seasons.

So far, 4 episodes of season 3 have aired - and I am totally fed up with the plot and the acting of each character, especially the plot for Oh Yoon He was really illogical. In this particular review, i will focus on my review of season 3 - episode 4.

1st: Plot
The plot in this episode was totally nonsense and all of the mishaps could have 100% been avoided. So many holes in the logic of the plot that could bring up questions in any viewer.
- Oh Yoon He tested the DNA of SSR and Seok Kyung and found out that Seok Kyung is Min Seol A's twin and SSR's daughter by blood
-> SSR could have tested the DNA all this time by herself? Especially when she knew that Jun Dan Tae has always been full of lies?
-> The result of the DNA test: OYH could have told SSR all this time through the phone??? Especially when she knew she was getting in danger as she followed miss Jin. She could have told SSR immediately - explanation could have been reserved til after.

- When SSR got on miss Jin's car to drive herself and Eun Byul away, notice that she DID bring her bag with her (containing the DNA test), meaning that she was really cautious before she got out of the car.
Now... she could have TAKEN HER CAR KEYS WITH HER, which would have prevented Ju Dan Tae from getting on her car and chasing her afterwards. The fact the she could have taken her key cars with her is totally LOGICAL, since she also remembered to take her bag and the DNA test with her and she was also on her guard as it was a very dangerous place.

I know the purpose of all screenwriters is to heighten the intensity of plot and to make viewers become more curious in the next episodes. However, considering that this is such a K-drama that requires logic (solving crimes, plot twists, etc.), leaving such a big number of holes and illogic in the plot is totally unacceptable.

- WHAT WAS GOING ON IN OH YOON HE'S MIND WHEN SHE THOUGHT SHE COULD RESIST THE FORCE OF A BLACK CAR LITERALLY GOING AT FULL SPEED by pushing against the white car, WITH 2 BARE HANDS??? This was totally nonsense omfg I can't even understand why the screenwriter made her do that (ofc, to heighten the plot by putting OYH in a near-death situation, making the audience question the death of this character in the next episode). But logically speaking, NO PERSON IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would do this...

2nd: Acting
Honestly, I was very annoyed at first when Oh Yoon He first appeared on screen in this episode when she came to the theatre and announced to everyone that she got 20% of the corporation's shares and she was also going for the director position.

Her acting has become VERY REPETITIVE - trying to look "superior", glaring at someone for a few secs and then widening her eyes and then either looking serious, turn away or smirking in a victorious way and then turn away. Honestly, just notice this pattern and you could see that it's been going on in this exact pattern ever since the last episodes of season 2 and all episodes of season 3 up until now.

Review of first episode. Will be updated.

So far the story has gotten extremely messy.

The pros of the series in season 1 and 2 was the extremely exciting plot with one plot twist after another and LOTS of drama, the amazing acting of the super well-selected cast and of course the directing and production/editing. Frankly, if you look into the actual quality of the story or the writing of the 3 seasons, a lot of the details will not make sense and there are some plot holes, but that's not the point of a makjang story. This drama is the makjang of makjangs, the true makjang king of over-the-top storylines and writing.

But we are already used to this from season 1 and 2. So why am I complaining? Well, firstly, it's because that even makjangs need to slow down and take it easy at some point. Because this series had way too many plot twists and deaths, viewers like us will doubt everything and will "feel" less because anyone can be revived. Shim Su-ryeon, Bae Ro-na, and now potentially killing off Logan Lee makes things too repetitive even for a makjang. There are some fans that believe even Min Seol-ah is alive.

The whole cast has gone crazy. Some were evil and insane from the start, some went crazy during the story. The most upsetting thing is that the only decent characters left (imo Shim Su-ryeon and Logan, maybe the Rona and Joo Seok-hoon) are left in misery. Another hugely annoying thing is Joo Seok-kyung getting jealous of Rona yet again after getting some much needed "development" when Su-ryeon came back. She will follow her father Joo Dan-tae again just to get Rona dealt with.

The inclusion of the two most important new characters, Jenny's father who just got out of jail and the real Joo Dan-tae (Mr. Baek) whose everything got stolen from him by the current Joo Dan-tae, have not yet been explained but so far everything looks like a huge mess. Right now Jenny's dad looks like an irrelevant character that the author planned on using to create more drama in season 3 and the real Joo Dan-tae has done nothing to help Logan and Su-ryeon and get revenge on the fake Joo Dan-tae. I'm sure it will get better with time but the writers better have everything planned out well, and the next few plot twists hopefully make a little more sense.

Most importantly, Logan Lee has to be alive for this story to be meaningful. The main heroine Shim Su-ryeon has suffered too much in the series and has turned insane, while the most evil characters such as Joo Dan-tae and Cheon Seo-jin have superhuman powers and still haven't been punished properly for their crimes. Joo Dan-tae stabbed himself, put the blame on Ha Yoon-chul, bled for more than an hour while escaping the hospital without surgery and went to kill Logan with a bomb and came back still alive and well. This is something that cannot continue for too long. There are teases of Oh Yoon-hee stabbing Shim Su-ryeon in the back yet again. If she does this then her character is completely ruined. Now that her daughter is still alive, she should do everything she can to repay Su-ryeon and Logan while getting revenge on Joo Dan-tae and Cheon Seo-jin.

This series still has a ton of potential to sort out all the mess, punish the evil people and those who have sinned should repent. Most importantly, I think the main characters who have suffered the most (Su-ryeon, Logan, maybe some of the kids) should have a happy ending for this series to have a real message. So far, it's just "don't be as bad as these horrible people" which should basically be common sense. In terms of drama and suspense, this series comes on top. But in terms of quality of the writing and sending a message to viewers, this season 3 still needs lots of improvements before it can touch well renowned predecessors such as Sky Castle. Looking forward to the other 10 episodes!

¿Qué?

No se ni como empezar.

recomendo SUPER, vou sentir saudades dessa loucura toda

1. A morte totalmente desnecessária da Oh Yun Hui e do Ha Youn Cheol;
