When Chu Chih Keng brings the orphaned Tu Hsiao Shuang into his home, everyone welcomes her except his wife, Lee Hsin Pei, who knows her husband's lingering love for Tu Hsiao Shuang's late mother. Chu Shih Yao, Chu Chih Keng's son, grows fond of Tu Hsiao Shuang, and she begins to reciprocate. However, Shih Yao hesitates to break up with the devoted Tso Chiao Jou, whom he only sees as a sister. After a tragic accident leaves him crippled and Tso Chiao Jou with a head injury, Lee Hsin Pei blames Tu Hsiao Shuang and forces her to leave.
