Would not watch again in this life

I’m going to start out by saying how this is somewhat similar to the recent hit Reborn Rich. You have the supernatural element of someone reincarnated and keeping their present memories in order to change the past. It’s the common theme of the good guys catching the bad guys.

It started out, gripping with a lot of interesting twists and turns. It’s always nice to see the good guys getting ahead of the game. However, the execution of the plot became pretty mundane towards the middle.

The bad guys’ moves became predictable and how the good guys saved the day also became pretty predictable. It was the same equation played over and over. For example, the good guy knew what the bad guy was up to so he showed him supposed secret information on a cheap word document that anyone could’ve typed up. The bad guy panicked, and the good guy won that battle. Next episode, same equation. The good guy knew what the bad guy did. Showed him some secret phone recording, bad guy backed off & good guy won that battle. It was the same rinse and repeat over and over.

SPOILER AHEAD ON ENDING

The ending was completely disappointing to say the least. Not only did none of the bad guys stay in jail, or learn from their past mistakes, you have a new villain on the rise. And the main villain supposed end was unclear and not resolved the way that we would’ve want to. It was a bizarre way to end the series. Fans ended up cheering for the end of all these bad guys only to learn that nothing the good guys did mattered. What a waste of 16 hours.

I may sound rude but, here i go!
This show had potential. The show was good, watchable and interesting. This drama felt fast paced but i was receiving well, I was seriously worried that might happen; and it did.
The start was good and fast paced to only end this way. The ending was not pleasing. I really was looking forward to what would happen, but in the end they wrap it like this. I literally watched in 2x speed from like ep 7 i guess. I went downhill and my expectations with it too.

Maybe i had my expectations high, but this was not the way i wanted it. I know i can't come with my own interpretation of ending to happen. But, i literally believed that everyone who was working along and including cho tae sub will see hell. They are all released seriously whaaAAATTT?? And cho tae sub till the end claming he can't be harmed, ran away faking his death. The way the show starts doesn't guarantee the ways it ends.

Side characters just felt like they existed for the main character, ik they are but, literally they get dragged into the scene only when the lead is in need. I really thought there would be something big happening but ughhh!! Am back to saying the same shit. It's disappointing. With such good cast, and start it should have been better, a s2 I'm not watching, if there was one. Leaving that; The action was good. Ost was nice. I like the ending theme songs.
The casting was good, but the screen time was really not served well. Like what the hell how can kim hee a being one of the main leads not get enough screentime. There should be decent amount of screentime provided for them. The acting is good too, i only have problem with the story and the pace. Which can't be solved.
I avoid revenge dramas, i got this, thought it would be good but ik now.

I'll try to look on the bright side!?
• Hee-woo saved his parents and they have a restaurant now.
•He also saved hyu-ri and Seung-hyun, they are partners in prosecution.
•Saved chunha, when he said he will own it, did it for his gf so yeah....
•Sang man and dude i forgot his name....anyways the bodyguard type of guy I'm sorry, had their lives changed, though, sang man had it rough:(
•sang man woke up!!!
•The secretary is not a grim reaper. If dudes makes a mistake no one will grant him again a life.....i guess.
I'm done. It's by far my opinion. I hope you respect. Byeeee

The second half is such a waste...

I must say first of all, the beginning of the drama is incredible. The end of the first episode was obviously confusing, but everything after episode 2 was genuinely really good. I loved the characters and ther interactions during the university part. The characters' stories, the MC's development, the humor, the pace, ect, were all great. There was a little bit of "romance" but not too much, which really fits my taste. I loved every bit of it. This really doesn't happen with a lot of series since I usually have a few complains but here I was really impressed and hyped.

Then why am I giving this fairly mid rating?
The biggest issue with this drama is that the writer forgot to pour new ideas into it. Once the MC graduates from university and becomes a prosecutor, the scenario becomes slower, more repetitive. The MC becomes a mastermind that gets all his plans right and follows the exact same scheme of thoughts and the same strategies to succeed. Every characters become the more boring version of themselves (like are you not allowed to have fun once you graduate from university in Korea?), and their development basically stops. The MC defeats bad politic guy after bad law guy to get to his main target and after the first two cases it's just boring and predictable. It becomes like one of these average good guy vs bad government shows, which is sad given how well it started. It's as if the writers lost all of their inspiration right in the middle of the show...
(Also, this show has way too many characters and never stops making references to characters from earlier episodes that are barely relevent to the plot, which makes it super confusing after a certain point.)

However, I must give credits where credits are due. Overall the actors did an amazing job and not a single one of them felt out of place nor unconvincing.
The production was also great. Though at times the plot felt a bit slow, I never felt like I was watching a poor quality scene. The show was also pretty good at building momentary tension.

A series with potential but..

I think this series is an adaptation of a Korean comic which I have not read and I think the beginning of the series the first 4-7 might interest you in reading the comic however what was once an engaging plot line with a pay off ended up being a haphazard and disappointing build up to a random ending which built up hype in between scenes just to throw it all away which I couldn't believe. The battle between Hee Woo and Cho Tae Sob was satisfactory up until Sang Man was supposed to meet him and then the balance between Hee Woo using his concealed conviction to take down Cho Tae Sob against Cho Tae Sob and his dominating political power he coveted from blackmailing and other illegal methods. This was because Hee Woo's close friend Sang Man was thrown off a building which was about 555m tall and ended up in critical condition, yes not dead but in critical condition and in a coma he was supposed to meet with Cho Tae Sob to discuss his shares in a company but he didn't show up because Hee Woo knew it was too dangerous. Instead Hee Woo showed up to the meeting with Cho Tae Sob and declared his true ambitions during that meeting, during that Sang Man was abused by Cho Tae Sob's men and thrown off a building. Hee Woo declaring his ambitions then was too early but everything was rushed because Cho Tae Sob was still in full power and there was 3 episodes left of the season..

In this series there is character development happening to certain characters which determine who they are in the show with certain morals, when tested with these morals for years they withstand following their desires; bribes, covering up crimes in the prosecution and high positions in the social hierarchy, however characters that have some development giving you understanding of who they are end up doing 360s that don't even make sense like Jeon Seok Gyu taking a better position and trying to silence Hee Woo and do things himself when he knows Hee Woo has what it takes to battle with Cho Tae Sob.

Cho Tae Sob was a powerful figure with control over the prosecution, media and seat holders in the assembly and he was also meticulous and he knew Jeon Seok Gyu wouldn't follow his instructions yet all of a sudden he thinks he will and gives him a position which gives him control of the prosecutors and makes him weaker not to mention his secretary all along was gathering evidence to expose him from day 1 and after this ridiculous battle to get rid of the corruption in the government, Cho Tae Sob is gone and a dead body that matches his DNA is found he disappears because Hee Woo exposes him and his secretary so when that ridiculous battle was over it turned out to be pointless because everyone that was arrested leading up to the fall of Cho Tae Sob came out almost right away because of a rich lady that owns a company wants to use Cho Tae Sobs club of pawns to her disposal to cover up her company's shady business and make as much money as she can while they get their positions back in return.

The plot had strange uses of fake character betrayals just to throw in a flashback every time to show us how that character didn't actually betray the MC even though we knew they had the same goal as the MC because of their past. There was a support role character that was influencing the story that just disappeared after a threat that wasn't effective enough to be honest to have him just not show up anymore and there was a chaebol plot line with family feud supposed to be happening at one point totally ignored to allow the MC and his partners to quickly gain authority over the company. I'm wasn't bothered to remember all the plot lines that were illogical but this series had a lot of potential that wasn't capitalised which was unfortunate.

Not up-to-standard

As a long-time Lee Joon Gi stan this drama was of course a must for me. I was a bit disappointed at how it turned out. The concept and cast are amazing. Solid performances from everyone. If this is your first drama or even your first prosecutor-trope drama or maybe even your first LJK drama, you will probably come out of it enthousiastic. For me, it was just standard. I felt like the main cast was mostly going on auto pilot and not giving us their top-game. Same gous for the story. Quite predictable, the surprises did not really chock and a lot of repetition, Again the hitman, again the rootop, again the corrupt politician... The ending was unnecessarily open, probably meant to show that corruption and the work of a just prosecutor never ends. Well ok, we got that. I skipped through the last 3 episodes and that is a baaaaddd sign for a drama w my fave! Still scored it 7,5 because LJK and the OST.

Worth Watching❤️

The most awaited Lee Joong Gi kdrama of this year. And when there is LJG there is power pack actions that you can expect. Another beautiful storyline with some super beautiful OST that kept me hooked into it always. I am still cheering for LJG oh my God! How smooth he and his acting is I am just totally in love with him. Though I had a expectation to see some more actions but it's okay. I gave a rating of 8.5 just because of some point in this drama that I didn't like. Like at the end of the drama the unsure death of Cho Tae sub. And at the beginning when the female grim reaper who used to work for Cho Tae Sub, how she end up dying in her past life no where to be shown in this drama. So it's still a mystery to all of us. But anyways, I overall enjoyed the drama a lot!! Absolutely worth a watch!! ❤️

Good Until The Last Two Episodes...

I stuck through this drama from when it first aired right to the very end and I'm just late putting in my 2 cents.

I really liked this drama and most of the reviews I've quickly scrolled through are similar to the thoughts I've had.

I will say that the last two episodes felt a bit incomplete for me. Perhaps because near the end, the ML's supporters basically couldn't help him anymore. One got thrown off a building but miraculously survives although in a coma, and the other side characters were "benched" because they were forced to be transferred elsewhere by the "powerful" villain through his connections. So throughout the whole show, the ML had all his supporters helping him but in the end, they got pushed to the wayside. The villain made sure that the ML was "alone".

In the beginning, we see that the ML, a prosecutor, tries to take down a powerful villain and in doing so he gets murdered. Luckily, he is brought back to life by a grim reaper. A "second chance" as you have it, to go back to the past... we're talking even before he starts law school. So with all his future memories intact in the past, he uses all that info, to thwart and take down the villain and his connections.

I cheered the ML on whenever there was a scene where just when the bad guy thinks things are going well, the ML ruins it for him because he was always 2 steps ahead. But by the last episode, perhaps I was hoping that the villain would be taken down by the ML in some kind of dramatic showdown. Like with a big arrest, a swarm of reporters flashing their cameras and adding to his further humiliation. Nothing like that happened. Just like the ML in the 2nd last episode, the villain was just... lonely.

I wished there was more storytelling and mystery about the grim reaper and the ML's mysterious coming back to life storyline. Maybe like one episode should've touched on it. I mean, really, he basically traveled back in time and we're not gonna talk about it that mystery after episode 1? It was kind of weird how they did that.

I did enjoy the show and I agree with the other reviewer who wished we saw the ML end up with the reporter female character. I don't know why they introduced her to us first, if she wasn't the end game. She had better chemistry with the ML.

That's just my 2 cents. I would've rated this show higher if it hadn't been for the lacklustre ending episodes.

Bad ending

This is a story of a prosecutor who comes back to life to finish a case.
First I was not that interested in this drama but after seeing few episodes I was hooked and wanted to see how the case would unravel and how will he win it in this life. The build up was good but the last episode was poorly crafted.
It started off pretty good and was going on well with the suspence and everything but the ending was to bad.
Not well defined.
Even the couple was suddenly sprung upon us.
Ending was really poor.

I've been feeling a bit let down with A Superior Day as of late, so I was glad that this drama finally start airing. Before, there was quite a few dramas that had a similar plot of having the main character going back to the past in order to change their fates so it was
interesting to see how this drama would unfold. Also I checked the webtoon out, and it's pretty well written too

By now Lee Joonggi was no stranger with regards to action and thriller dramas. After Two Weeks and Flower of Evil, safe to say we can expect great performance coming from him. Kim Heewoo was quite an interesting character as a rightous prosecutor who might be a bit too overzealous in doing his job. And the more we get to know him, the more I find Heewoo to be quite an endearing character. And it was pretty exciting to see him trying to redo the events in his past to change his fate as well as the fates of his family, friends and many other victims of Cho Taesub as Heewoo attempt to take him down.

There was quite a lot of mystery remaining unknown to us with regard to who was it that saved Heewoo from death and sent him back into the past, as well as the true nature of the main villain in this story. The writing had been pretty solid so I pretty much enjoyed the show. And for the drama, the ending differed a bit from webtoon... which was pretty understandable considering the few bits of changes made throughout the drama.

Smart Chess play with a lot of legal planning and zero romance

If it wasn't for the male lead probably this drama would have failed miserably ,, even the plot isn't bad but it's not thrilling either,, it started strong with mix of fantasy and fiction but it fell into a lot of planning and a lot of legal talk
Too much time spent in just preparing the chess board so the male lead can play his enemy and outsmart him in his own game
I'm not saying it's bad drama ,, it's really smart drama but it's not thrilling enough and I'm not talking about the fight scenes ,, I'm talking about how it lacks the element of surprise and the close calls of important characters in danger and so on
they took too much time growing the main lead into his ultimate shape so he can be at the same level of preparation and intelligence to beat his enemy ,,, they showed us from his college days how he had previous knowledge of what will happen so he can be ready this time and that's cheating in my opinion if it's a chess game ,, he has previous knowledge of his enemies moves that's why he can now make his own moves accordingly lol
of course it was check mate from the first episode that's why he needed that second chance to play again on his own terms this time around
the drama is enjoyable to watch but there were some episodes in the middle a bit draggy and boring but it's all building up for his fighting chance
Lack of romance was a bonus here ,, because romance doesn't fit in such story ,, it would be odd and out of place ,, the male lead is fighting for his own life and justice not for his lover and that's refreshing
If you like mature drama , have the patience for it and of course you love the male lead as I'm I recommend this drama for you
if you want to watch more action scenes or more fantasy or more thrilling drama has lots of chasing and dangerous situations this isn't it

The grand scale of revenge and Lee Joon Gi's presence make this drama totally worth it!!

My top actor Lee Joon Gi has returned to the small screen after about two years, and yes, he leads the show with such power. In particular, how he pretends not to know anything despite living his second life is interesting. Hee Woo knows all about the future of people around him and the upcoming big events in Korea. So he implicitly hands over a vital piece of information to people in order to put himself in an advantageous position. In this process, Lee Joon Gi’s poker face stands out. His flawless acting and chemistry with everyone are also one of the main reasons to watch this well-executed show. To me, it's very good that there is no romance in the show which some people were complaining about. I don't see why a second chance revenge drama should focus on romance..

Definitely a mixed bag

This is one is certainly a mixed bag for me. Honestly I think that Lee Joon Gi has had fair share of good and bad performances over the years but like a lot of drama fans, I was definitely impressed with him in scholar walks the night and again in his latest project last year in flower of evil. I have to say that I wasn’t sure what to expect with him here in Again my Life but he really knocked the ball out of the park. My mixed feelings are pretty divided so i think that it’s best if I try to say what I liked and didn’t like.

What I liked…
- Lee Joon Gi was awesome here and gave a good performance but I must admit that veteran actor Lee Kyung Young often stole the spotlight here too.
- The plot concept= it isn’t original. I’m going to say that openly and trust me when I say that I’ve read and watched A LOT of webcomics and productions with this plot premise but it still was pretty interesting and I really liked how they took it forwards in later episodes. ( Especially by exceeding expectations.)
- Execution and Pacing- I actually thought the series did a pretty good job with helping to frame the storyline and keep viewers entertained. I have my own pet peeves about how the storyline panned out at times but I can’t deny that alongside the fantasy, action and legal sides of the drama there was really something for everyone.

Pet peeves
OST- Oh boy I don’t really know where to start with this one. I have to make out that I didn’t think the soundtrack was entirely bad and there was definitely some bangers in there. BUT I must be really straightforward and say that after episodes finished, there weren’t many tracks that really stuck in my mind. Yeah maybe there were a few I could hum along too but for me imao a good OST is when you can listen to it time and time again and then randomly start singing it a few weeks or months later.

Some of the side characters- Okay, I have to say that I’m definitely divided about this one. Honestly I liked a lot of characters in this show but one character who really didn’t sit well with me was Kim Hee Ah. I love the actress Kim Ji Eun but her character was a little bland in retrospect and I definitely feel as though there was so much more to explore with her. ( A potential romance or at least a more defined friendship with the ML feeling missing from the show.)

The ending- I’ve noticed a lot of reviewers seem to share my views on this one. It’s a brilliant show even into the second half and there’s enough to keep you intrigued but the final two episodes just felt messy. The pacing felt choppy and the actual conclusion given was satisfactory but seriously rushed and didn’t really feel as though it belonged in the same show that had given us time and effort to work out details of the earlier storyline.

Overall thoughts; definitely a mixed bag as I’ve mentioned in my top comment. I didn’t think it was bad and there are so many positive things to say about this one. Though there were a few letdowns. 7.5/10.
