questionable
i watched some of this series back in 2022, but never came around to finishing it. after revising in 2024, it's still just as messy as when i left it.some of the saving graces for this series is the actors. looks, yes. chemistry, yes. erotic (though unecessary) sex scenes, yes.
but. acting can't save a messy plot. honestly, towards the end, i was just asking myself, "what..?" i sat down and finished it in one sitting, because every new episode was crazier than the last. the entertainment value is there, but it's kind of sick.
kim and porchay. didn't like it, definitely didn't love it. but, i didn't hate it. it felt forced, rushed, untouched, and messy. they meet up, we see them on screen together maybe five times, and porchay asks kim if he loves him? kim's whole reasoning for being there gets revealed by other members of the family regardless, so it was all pretty meaningless. no tension, no chemistry. and this could be due to acting issues, but there was no room for them in this messy plot. i don't know whether their relationship was supposed to go a specific way, but they were robbed of any kind of happy ending. felt like angst just to be angst, no actual meaning behind it. the only time i felt convinced was when kim was kicking some ass for porchay without him being aware of it.
vegas and pete. jesus christ. what the fuck was that? others who are into that kinky idea, be my guest. felt like some sick form of stockholm syndrome, where love doesn't even look like it would fit. but somehow, that's where we ended? vegas is shot and he still gets to live? it felt really sick, i tended to fast forward their scenes.. but they still had more than kimporchay had to me, and yet they probably got less screen time. if pete truly feels he belongs as vegas' pet then hey, i guess i'll let them have their moment.
kinnporsch... well. it was the main couple, they started out great, and i was definitely into the idea of them. porsche is a loveable guy, handsome, and seeing him interact with a rich mafia boss? yeah, i was down. but it just got worse and worse, especially considering all the horrible things kinn did to porsch, and yet.. "let's start over", "i forgave you a long time ago." it wasn't awful, and their scenes together outside were actually some of my favorite. we saw kinn smile, they seemed happy, with no real expectation of eachother. but i still felt underlying sickness, and their relationship truly never got to a solid, reputable point.
this story is definitely erotic, but it got to the point of being too much. the ending was pretty terrible, but it left room for more. if there was another season at some point, i think i would watch out of curiosity. it's rare to see a series get the "mafia boss" persona right, but they built kinn up really well, and he embodied a lot of what other series try to be.
for everything this series did right, there were so many left turns and wrongs. it's not the worst one i've seen, but the storyline gets pretty gross at some points and simply brushes over some really important themes. i don't know whether id recommend it per say, but keep these things in mind when watching it.

The Best!!!
This series' impact is beyond unexpected, the actors are well connected or suited to their roles or characters in the series. The Impact and chemistries between the couples and team chemistry are vital; this series is a masterpiece. The storyline and build-up of the scenes were all flowing like a river, it's not that type of typical series that has the same plot, and ending. The production really works hard in every detail of this series, I was totally amazed by the mindblowing action stunts and many more, every episode they create an incredible scene that will always be remembered by the audience.
Back from the series, I really like how they build the characters in each episode. I like when the love story of kinn and porche was shown not in a rushed or slow, they didn't forget in connecting it to the genre, not typical romantic scenes like in other series, the romantic scenes ranged from romantic to wild. Pete and Vegas story is not idealistic but they portrayed it very well, we can learn from them the toxic relationship. I love them by the way, Pete and Vegas roles were really meant for build and bible. hoping for them to have their own bl series.
When it comes to the overall rating in the series ill leave it with 9.5 because the story, especially the mystery in the past i just think that it could have been better, there's a little bit of confusion but overall still good.
Everything in the series is all good, ill recommend this to all of you, I love the characters, the actors, and the story.

Questionable plot, carried by the acting
Generally enjoyable, questionable plot that gets lost around the middle, side ship is better than the main, and the entire show is carried by the acting.PLOT
Starts off pretty strong with some minor plot holes that most people would be okay with brushing off. Around probably episode 6-7 is where the plot holes start getting glaringly obvious and hard to ignore.
Loses most tracks to the original plot (poor bartender becomes a bodyguard to pay for his brother's college and their house) pretty damn quick, too. By the end, it's turned into all but a murder mystery.
Everything seems to have very, very convenient ties back to Porsche, who was originally, again, just a poor bartender.
CHARACTERS
the good: Porche, Pete, VEGAS, Tankhun
Vegas is the biggest saving grace for this whole series.
the bad: KINN, most of the other bodyguards, Korn
ACTING
Bible, Build, and Apo carried this whole fucking series. Bible ate up all of the screen time and I found myself wondering when the next Vegas scene was coming, his acting was so good. and Build and Bible's chemistry was so good that they somehow made that ship work (below). Apo carried the entire KinnPorsche ship on his back, someone get this man a back massage.
SHIPS
KinnPorsche - To recap, we've got a noncon first sexual encounter as Porsche was drugged, a major power dynamic at play, and that power dynamic is consistently used as leverage? Plus a host of trust issues and miscomm. Gotcha.
Jokes aside, I was rooting for this pair. They were generally likeable, had fairly good chemistry, good sex scenes, and a good sprinkling of true compatible and cute moments. However, as I already said, Apo carried this whole fucking ship.
KimChay - This one is weird, they don't have chemistry, Kim treats Chay like shit and then is upset when Chay cuts him out. More screentime dedicated to this pair would have done them well as I feel like we missed some character and ship building.
VegasPete - By FAR the most chemistry of the three main. Their entire situation does give very big Stockholm-y vibes, which I don't love. HOWEVER, their first time did have explicit consent, and they have the best communication between any of the couples here. I wish we got more VegasPete. Also, Build and Bible did such a good job, especially in those really rough scenes. My one hope is that we get a season 2 or a spinoff dedicated to mainly VegasPete and a healthy relationship progression.
FIN
The end of the series was generally unsatisfying because of how it ties up the "loose ends" and the murder mystery it turned itself into. I wish it had taken that time it spent on Porsche's parent's murder into VegasPete, but beggars can't be choosers. I enjoyed watching it for mindless entertainment, but it's not top-tier cinema. The action scenes are nice, though.

The Torture Kills The Rewatch Value - unless you're into that
The Good: The acting is good. The sensuality is good for the main pair. The side couple of Chay and Kim is bittersweet but ultimately very nice. The main couple will stay together forever until the Earth explodes - I have no doubt about this, so the show has that going for it. Some shows struggle with chemistry, but Mile and Apo are all-but-married in real life, so it makes sense that their chemistry is on point. The music is beautiful. Jeff wrote some of it, so obviously those are good. But whomever took the opening song and turned it into beautiful instrumental pieces also needs a raise because it was gorgeous. The Bad: The drama of being in the mafia is hit or miss or how realistic it is. This mob spends, conservatively, 200% of its budget on their bodyguard training facility, and almost every bodyguard we meet is objectively a nice guy and not actually cut out for being in the mafia. Kinn is too soft to run an effective mafia. Of the brothers, Kim seems the most cut out for the role of leader and he would rather die. This mafia managed to spit out three heirs, they're all on the lgbtq spectrum, and none are as ruthless as you need to be to run a mafia. This family is gonna end the business with this new generation. Also the plot twist in the last ep or two is actually pretty fucked up and was soooo unnecessary. This show really has it out for the whole "kidnapped and held hostage" trope.
THE WORST: Speaking of! The main reason I rated it so low for rewatch and overall is Vegas and Pete. The side couple of Vegas and Pete is a huge point of debate in the fandom. Some people love it. I personally hate it and had to start skipping their scenes. There's bdsm and then there's torture and then there's Stockholm syndrome, which is what we have here. Pete does not love Vegas. He's mentally broken and beaten and abused on screen, and then convinced that Vegas cares about him, and he buys it. He can't function in normal society after his capture. And I wouldn't trust Vegas to pet my dog much less to own one. I trust nothing that comes out of his viper mouth. We've seen him lie and play the sad vulnerable part and then turn around and betray everyone in his life. He warped the mind of multiple people in the show, tries to then kill them, and even had whole speeches about how much he hated people or was going to murder them or whatever. And yet the show wants us to believe he's just misunderstood. He may be a victim of abuse but that doesn't change the fact that he is also an extreme abuser.

Not At All A Fluffy Gay Drama
Upon revisiting this series, my perspective has shifted from my initial impressions when it aired. As a fan of gay dramas who later discovered BL, I didn't view 'KinnPorsche' primarily as a BL, but rather as a gay drama with some BL elements, especially due to Porsche's experience of falling for a man for the first time. The story revolves around Kinn, the second son of a Mafia boss, who seeks protection from Porsche, a martial arts bartender who saves him one night. Although Porsche initially rejects Kinn's offer to become his bodyguard, he eventually agrees when Kinn threatens the safety of his family. Their relationship fluctuates between strained and playful as Porsche adapts to his dangerous role as Kinn’s bodyguard. When Porsche's feelings for Kinn take an unexpected turn, the lines of love and hate gets blurred.
As I approached this series from the perspective of a gay drama involving the Mafia, I wasn't as taken aback or shocked by the violence, including shootings and killings, as some BL fans might have been. It's important to consider the context of the series, which clearly presents itself as a violent Mafia-themed drama, and not a lighthearted BL.
The portrayal of sensitive topics like sexual assault and rape is not romanticized in the series, and it accurately depicts the aftermath by showing Porsche’s trauma. It's essential to be mindful when watching content that explores these themes and to understand that victims' reactions can vary greatly and may not align with Hollywood portrayals. Since I took this as a gay drama involving the mafia, I wasn’t shell shocked or consent policing the SA and rape scenes like a lot of BL fans who came into this series from the 2gether BL crowd. If you didn’t take issue with the violence of the mafia shooting and killing each other but with the rape and SA, then you have no business watching this series about the mafia underworld. This isn’t a magical fluffy BL where people stumble into each others arms and are suddenly in love.
Furthermore, the characters in the series are criminals within the underworld, which naturally involves morally complex and dark situations. Expecting a fluffy and idyllic romance would be misplaced.
In conclusion, 'KinnPorsche ' is a gay drama that delves into the world of the mafia, and it's crucial to appreciate it in the context it presents itself rather than imposing expectations from a fluffy BL perspective with consent policing and a SA/rape savior complex.

Too unserious to be the Euphoria of BL
I went into KinnPorsche with a lot of hype around the series after having watched a lot of BL and related media in 2021 when it was first getting rumored and made into reality having just finished amazing series like Until We Meet Again and Manner of Death. Those shows highlighted BL's growth as a genre and that was proof that some exceptional shows in the gay genre could exist and also have intrigue outside of the plot romance while also taking itself seriously. Unfortunately KinnPorsche did not live up those titles at all. There are intense pacing issues and a distinct lack of -real- drama for quite literally the first five or six episodes, considering how the pilot introduces Kinn and Porsche and the (initial) pretense of why they are together; Kinn is the heir of the lead crime family in the area and needs a bodyguard in Porsche. So many episodes are spent in this 'training' arc that is very campy and there's quite literally nothing serious that happens until about five episodes in when Porsche is present for the 'teaching of a lesson' that goes haywire. Porsche is more of a sassy live in crush that throws quips around until the plot decides to get serious about 8+ episodes in and we have overlapping side stories finally bringing the forest from the trees together and reminding the audience of the overarching plot. Sprinkled scenes of intimacy held me in suspense and yes they were nice but I didn't think Kinn and Porsche's chemistry was that great, either, they are just very attractive guys but I didn't feel any chemistry beyond that. I wasn't hooked until the very last episode but felt like it took way too long to get a coherent overarching plot amounting to something and to get satisfying comeuppances from the various characters. Didn't like Vegas much and I kind of hated Pete and Vegas, it just seemed out of nowhere but I did enjoy Kim and Porchay, Porsche's younger brother.
There's a story about family and loyalty and deception in KinnPorsche but it takes too long to find itself and meanders drunkenly through campy arcs for way too long to then have to rely on tired tropes to deliver. KinnPorsche to me wasn't offensively bad, but I can't say I thought it was good, either. If there's something to takeaway, I enjoyed the fighting scenes in KP way more than any of the BL aspects.

I think my hopes were way too high...
Coming off of Love In The Air a lot of friends online recommended this series to me and hyped it up (maybe too much) because I mentioned LITA being one of my favorites solely because of the chemistry between the characters. I typically don't mind plot holes in a series if the Romance and Chemistry between the couples carry. First 4 episodes into KP and I’m kind of bored ands uninterested in the mafia violence stuff. Maybe I just don't enjoy too much action in "Action Romance" genre in BL all that much. I'll still finished this series because I do enjoy the Romantic moments between the couples and the different dynamics each of them have. The NC scenes were WILD and I'm not sure if I like them or not. I know a lot of people like to slander a series because of abuse, non consent, etc. I typically don't mind if this is the main point of conflict in a series that's trying to get resolved. One could argue there might be too many conflicts that are trying to be resolved in this series and the abuse, SA, and lack of consent don't seem to be any of them.I think overall, I'm just kind of neutral about this series. If I went it with less expectations maybe I would've enjoyed it a bit more

The ONE for me.
I'm gonna have to say this. This series is probably my absolute favourite on yet. Keep in mind I'm not the type of person that likes stuff easily. It's really hard to explain how just on point this series is. The acting, editing, production, plot and the OST is something I'm never gonna be forgetting cuz of how satisfying it all was. Every single actor made me fall in love w them regardless of them having an evil or good personality.
!SPOILERS AHEAD!
The only thing I wasn't a big fan of was the story of the characters Vegas and Pete.
I really can't wrap my head around the fact that they even got together after what they -specifically the character Pete- went through.
But the acting was chiefs kiss.
The rollercoaster of emotions I went through was real. The way I ugly cried when Vegas shot; I was really embarrassed w my actions :P I'm
As I've already said I absolutely loved this series.
If it has a Season 2 then I'd definitely watch it.
The series also left us on a cliffhanger w the Kimchay bit. So I'm very much expecting a good ending somewhere (PLEASE).

plot could've been better fr
personally the storyline was messed up.probably got all the hype because of the beautiful cast and it's a new genre in the Thai bl industry.
Kim's whole ass investigation added zero value to this movie and obviously totally useless.
the ending added no significant value to this movie
needs better script writers.
There was definitely no character growth except for Vegas.
The only person with a legit story line in that movie was Vegas.
the fact that Kim and Porchay didn't grow together as a couple or have a magically ending is messed up. Cause why the literal f**k is Kim focusing on an investigation that didn't hold water instead of character growth and understanding his feelings for adorable Porchay?
Don't get me started on the unnecessary plot twist cause wtf
The ending was wrong in all possible ways.
what was the whole reason of hiding your supposed half/adopted sister from her family for so long?
And they just openly accept her without questions or her showing zero remorse for what she put her children through is messed up fr.
Pete going missing and nobody gives two f**ks about it like.........
Kinn having the brain of a goldfish and finding it hard to put two things together is just sad.
The love and warmth that existed between the bodyguards were ♾️
Vegas anxiety and trauma was displayed beautifully and the fact that after spending time with Pete he began to see his worth made it more beautiful.
It was nice to see how the positivity Pete had and genuine concern for Vegas impacted in his growth as a character. Showing how Pete is too and how despite that fact he was treated like poorly he could still help Veags grow and also become more open about his own pain and see the similarities between him and Vegas.
the connection the had was magical and definitely helped them grow as a couple as it should.
Porchay deserved better than a broken heart and dyed hair.

Foreshadowing was done so masterfully!
I held off on writing this review, mostly because this was my introduction to Asian dramas, Thai dramas and BL dramas in general. I didn't really have any expectations going into this, so I wanted to give myself time to watch some other series and get a good point of reference when it came to the review. Having said that, I think this was an amazing introduction into the BL world for me.The storyline is nice, there are however some shortcomings and there are certain things that were left open or without an explanation - like the motivation behind the inside man. I thought of almost everyone else except him, but I still don't know why he decided to betray the main family. Also the family relevations about Porsche (and Chay) was a bit too much and completely unnecessary. It could have been and it should have been done differently.
I love how much though was put into the side characters as well. I was ready to just remember everyone by bodyguard 1, bodyguard 2, friend 1... There are a lot of side characters and I think it's amazing how I had no troubles knowing exactly who is who, how they are, picking up some of their traits. That takes a lot of work and dedication, so kudos for that. The chemistry (and not just romantic) between the actors was great, they all did an amazing job portraying emotions, often only through their expressions. And I think saying the visuals of everyone were on point is an underrated statement. OST was amazing as well!
Another absolutely brilliant thing was the foreshadowing - there were a lot of little hints about what is happening or what was going to happen throughout the series, but I feel like I didn't fully register all of them as I watched the series. It was only when things actually happened that I was like "oooh, so that's what that comments ment!". This is also why I rewatched the whole thing pretty much right after I finished it. I really wanted to see how many such details I missed.
We get to see 4 couples in the series: Kinn & Porsche, Vegas & Pete, Kim & Porchay, and Time & Tay.
Time & Tay: they are Kinn's friends who are already a couple when the series starts. All I am going to say is that Tay deserves so much better. At first, I wasn't really sure if their actions and comments are meant as a joke or are we supposed to take them seriously, but episode 12 cleared all of my doubts. The two probably got the least screen time between all the couples, but they slayed it.
Kim & Porchay: This is one pairing that I found really interesting. Porchay is probably the most innocent person in this whole series, while Kim seems like someone who could rule the world with very little effort. Kim is the youngest and doesn't live with his family, he is an artist, but at the same time, he knows much more about what is really going on than Kinn. So the duality of his character was quite interesting to watch, especially in comparison with Porchay who was delighted to meet his favourite singer. I do really feel for Porchay though, he was practically abandoned by his brother (even if Porsche was trying to ensure a better future for his brother) and was left in a very vulnerable position. Their relationship is kept to a bare minimum, but it was one that really stuck with me.
Vegas & Pete: from the first interaction show in the series, it was foreshadowed that the two will be together. I do think their relationship does begin very problematically, including what precedes it, but at the same time, I just cannot hate Vegas. He grew up in a very messed up household and was taught to obey his father. I think that true Vegas comes out when he is taking care of someone, which is shown in his interactions with Macau and later with Pete. I do think he finds it hard to completely leave behind what was engrained into him by his father. Pete does appear as a very superficial character at first, he is fun and silly, and that's it. But as the story progresses, we get to see a lot more of his personality. He is wise, strategical, caring, supportive. I think this is what makes him a great match for Vegas who needs someone who will show him love, who will love him for who he is as a person, who can see through his shell.
Kinn & Porsche: they are the main couple. Their relationship was quite messy at times and it lacked communication when it was the most important. Kinn as a character does seem very cold and ruthless at first, but after hearing him talk about his life, we do get to see a different side to him. As he and Porsche get closer, we do get to see his caring side more. Porsche is... wild. I don't really know how else to describe him, but I think he is perfectly imperfect. He gets himself into trouble constantly, is kind of clumsy, noisy and is good at messing things up. I feel like this is what makes his character so human, so realistic. I was amazed by how much a single expression from Porsche (Apo) could tell us about his feelings. The amount of raw emotions put into some of the scenes left me speechless.
I do have to make a comment on questionable consent. There are a quite a few spicy scenes in the series which were done really beautifully. I urge you to check the BTS where the actors talk about them. It's very refreshing to see such mature outlook on NC scenes. But back to the consent - both Kinn & Porsche's and Vegas & Pete's first time are a bit problematic for different reasons. I really appreciate that we got to see that Porsche and Pete were wary of what has happened afterward. I think it's important that such issues are addressed, because it shows that what has happened was not necessarily completely consensual, which can lead to trauma.
The 18+ rating on the series is justified. Not because of action / violence scenes, not even because of the NC scenes. The characters are extremely complex, there is a certain level of maturity needed to really understand everything. And many people, even when they are 18+, are not capable of that.

Was it perfect - hell no! But it was good.
I loved this BL. It was definitely not perfect. This was kindergarten mafia, with not very competent bodyguards, the story line with questionable turns and lots of wtf moments. But the visuals that this show brought and the style were amazing! Each ep was like its own movie. The hot cast and the sex scenes that will blow your gasket. It had everything - cuteness, sweetness, innocence, passion, love and hate, torture, jealousy, obsession, rivalry, angst - all wrapped in crazy family dynamics sprinkled with some blood. As a fan of toxic - I wish we would have gotten more screen time of VP!!!Was this review helpful to you?
