Affair of Half a Lifetime (2002)

Set in Shanghai, China, during the 1930s and 1940s, the story centers around two sisters from a struggling family, Gu Man Zhen and her older sister, Gu Man Lu. A college graduate, Man Zhen finds true love with one of her colleagues, Shen Shi Jun. Meanwhile, Man Lu, the oldest of four children, supports the entire family, sacrificing her pride and reputation to become a nightclub hostess. After her marriage to Zhu Hong Cai, Man Lu realizes that her husband is attracted to her younger sister and arranges for her to be raped by him. In the meanwhile, Man Lu tells Shi Jun that her sister will reject him because of the difference in their social status, separating the two lovers.
