A show that really makes you think
Good Old Days has a unique concept and pretty different from GMMTV's usual fare. I started late on this show, but, once I got going, it didn't take me long to get caught up. Certainly, some stories are stronger than others, but all of them captivated me in their own turn. While the show ties up loose ends by the end of the series, at the time, none of the stories really had a happy ending and that's alright. It makes the show more real and the characters more human.First of all, I appreciate shows with an anthology narrative. Each of the 6 stories exist on their own and yet are tied back to the running narrative of Hey's life as the shopkeeper. It's something GMMTV doesn't tackle very often, but they did an amazing job with this one. If I had to rank them I would put them in this order: 1)Bond and Relationships, 2) Road to Regret, 3) Memory of Happiness, 4) Love Wins, 5) Somewhere Only We Belong, 6) Our Soundtrack
However, the stories at the bottom aren't bad, just not as good the ones above them. This show tackles a lot of difficult (and dark) issues but in a very real way. The characters are forced to face these issues one way or another and they all have to sacrifice or lose something before they come out on the other side. None of these stories have a true happy ending, but rather a satisfactory ending. The objects in this show are also "stars" in their own way. It would be very easy for the object to just exist in the background of the story, following the characters, but all of the objects carry so much meaning and you feel that. In some stories, the object is the focus of the story and in others it fades into the background but in an ever present way. I never felt like I lost sight of the objects' importance and the weight they were carrying for both the characters and the story. It really captures the idea of that "every object has a soul."
With such a large cast, it's hard to address all the actors and actresses, but I think they all did an amazing job and gave great performances. I especially liked Krist and his role as the shopkeeper. His character development is very different because we don't see his story until the end, but up until that point he plays the role of omnipotent shopkeeper very well. In these types of shows, usually the shopkeeper is some old, worldly person, but the irony of Hey is he experiences the world through other people and yet that's how he able to understand people. I thought Krist did an excellent job capturing this essence of the character.
The only real disappointment I have with this show is they wrapped everything up so nicely. I don't know how extensive the source material for this show is, but I would watch a sequel series with new stories. Good Old Days is definitely worth a watch and is definitely a higher show than most. It's really a show that will make you think and reflect on life and how people face their problems.

A lovely selection of glimpses in to peoples lives... done right
Things I do not generally enjoy: Healing, multiple mains, episodic/antholagies, emotional banter... So I was basically about to drop this after the first quarter episode... But then someone got me to think again and oh am I glad I did because between the annoying emotional healing stuff there are actually a whole bunch of interesting fun stories... Stories of people standing up for themselves, people making mistakes, regret... Chasing dreams without the whole against all odds b.s. that often follows...Happy people, sad people, not so many annoying people... a whole bunch of broken people who just need to take a break to be able to either move on or move back...
What I love about the drama is the cast, yes I am shallow and I have seen many of these people before and more or less love em all so yes I am bias, and I am not ashamed to admit it. I also love the complexity of each story it is not all black and white, good, bad. I finally fell in love and if I do don't get that person I will never love again type of deal... that I admit to enjoy watching too... however not always giving people the happy ending with the person the story built up to be their happy ending felt really refreshing. So I would say the romance in this was really diverse and interesting. The family ties gave interesting stories and came from several angels, not all my cup of coffee but they did work as a whole...
Okay this may be my messiest review yet, but in short, some of the stories here had me tearing up, others made my heart flutter and some just got on my nerves (sometimes the same story for all). So I did indeed enjoy watching this and defiantly recommend this to all you romance and slice of life lovers out there.

Makes you appreciate what you have
This had a great story concept. I’ve always wondered about the personal stories associated with the objects found in second hand shops. The only problem with the script is it does fall short on the execution with the first two storylines. However, it did a great job transitioning into the next storyline. The series has an outstanding cast that did a great job with their characters. It also had beautiful cinematography and great music.Very Brief Storyline Review (Don’t worry, no spoilers):
Bond and Relationship (Episode 1 & 2) – This was ok. The main problem is they tried to pack in too many story elements in this section.
Memory of Happiness (Episode 3 & 4) – This was ok. The script felt incomplete which made it lacking something.
Road to Regret (Episode 5 & 6) – This story was a lot better than the first two. However, there was a miss opportunity in completing Got’s storyline.
Our Soundtrack (Episode 7 & 8) – This was a good story and was the first one that felt complete.
Love Wins (Episode 9 & 10) – This was a great story that also felt complete.
Somewhere Only We Belong (Episode 11 & 12) – This was a great story. I loved how they incorporated the other 5 stories toward the end.
Random Note: The story hints in the teaser trailer for the first 2 stories were more interesting than the actual stories we get in the series.

There're small and big SPOILER. Read with ur own risk
Finally watch some Thai drama that's not BL. Haha... Although still with some familiar face...This quite good drama but unfortunately, for me, they close the curtain with something still hanging around. Let me explain... But of course that's mean there's a little bit spoiler in the end.
This tell story about an antique shop, that put the value of each item by the story behind them. So each time someone want to sell an object, they must tell Hey, the shop owner, the story behind it. And this drama tell us about 6 different stories, each story completed within 2 episodes, and close by Hey story himself.
Below I'll tell you a little bit about each story, but fair warning, also with SPOILER ALERT!!! So read with ur own risk.
==================================================

> This story also tell us about the missed opportunity. Cause by the end of the story, when Phu finally gather up his courage to ask Mint out, it's already too late.
2nd story. Memory of Happiness
> Story about 2 high school friends, Piang & Jap. After high school they separated & one day Piang decided to try reconnect with Jap. But unfortunately they separated again, cause Piang decided to work in the other city. But finally at the end Piang decided to back to their city again.

5th story. Love Wins
> Tell story about Mew & Maew, university sweet heart & their long run relationship. Mew comes from wealthy family, while Maew comes from ordinary family. That's make their social status a little bit different & that's also make Maew feel inferior & feel the need to prove himself to Mew's family.
> And that's when the problem started. Because overtime Maew is getting busier with his carrer, and Mew feel getting more and more neglected. And over time they more and more fight with each other.
> But like the title in the end love wins...
> This is the best story in this drama. Me cry like river over their story. This story about how to endure every problem in a relationship.
6th story. Somewhere Only We Belong
> The story about Hey & Mai. Hey from childhood already left by his parents to his grandpa care. After his grandpa died he turn his house to game shop & there's when he met Mai, a high school student in her last year.
> Mai whose very stressful cause graduation exam & her mother pressure, find comfort in Hey & game. But due to Mai decided to go to Canada for school, they separated.
> This story tell us about a man that feeling attachment to the history & hard to let it go.
The missing feeling before the closure I find in Hey story. I feel when they close the curtain, Hey's story still unfinished, even though they already reconnect with each other.
Overall this is a wonderful story about relationships, between family, partner & ourselves.

A collection of short stories that are connected because of the antique store, Good Old Days. Each story is 2-episode long, and not a lot of depth is given to the characters. But enough to tell a simple story. Most of them have a connection to a family member and/or romantic interest. Some stories are better than others.
Ep 1-2: Bond and Relationship - my second least favorite story and almost did not hook me in to continue watching. Luckily, I find Lee (ML) attractive and watched it for him.
Ep 3-4: Memory of Happiness - I enjoy this one. The leads are likable and I think the story is believable.
Ep 5-6: Road to Regret - my least favorite and I only watched the first 10 minutes. I find the three main characters loud and annoying, and did not want to continue on.
Ep 7-8: Our Soundtrack - I like this one as well. The song is catchy (I found it on Spotify!) and the story is easy to follow. Not too deep but enough to keep me interested.
Ep 9-10: Love Wins - the title is the cheesiest but it's my favorite. Their love touched me even though I had a hard time getting into the story in the beginning. But following the couple and their challenges of a long-term relationship keep me engaged for the most part.
Ep 11-12: Somewhere Only We Belong - a decent one to end the anthology. Though it's quite predictable, it is sad to see how it all ended.
Completed: 7/11/2023 - Review #330

A beautiful collection of different life-related stories…
A beautiful collection of different life-related stories… Each story gets about 2 episodes. All executed so well with the directing, actors and whole production.I did learn a thing or two from each storyline. This series sure dropped a couple of life lessons, pulled our heartstrings and this last storyline - Somewhere Only We Belong - is the most emotional of all.. Sometimes we all need a little slice of life even if we watch dramas to escape reality & for entertainment.
The store keepers story being the last story was brilliant.. satisfied my curiosity about him.
The last story Ep11 & 12 - Somewhere Only We Belong hit home deep and was so nostalgic for me…
I did enjoy watching… Many might drop it as it’s somewhat slow paced.

Ri, chorei e me sensibilizei em tantos trechos. Não é cansativa em momento algum, faz muitos pensamentos e memórias próprias aflorarem. Um dos melhores trabalhos dos últimos anos, com certeza. Was this review helpful to you?
