12.12: The Day (2023)

This movie is based on the assassination attempt on Chun Doo Kwang who is the main antagonist in this film and this shows the failed assassination attempt on him after the coup.

One film is based on the coup d'etat carried out by dictator Chun Doo-hwan which puts him in power, while the other captures the Gwangju Uprising and massacre of the protestors one year later, which Chun is notoriously responsible for.

Political thriller drama films taking place in 1979. One is based on the assassination of president Park Chung Hee in October 26, while the other is based on the Coup d'etat led by Chun Doo Hwan on December 12 in the same year, just a few months later.
