Big disappointment after first 2 seasons

As expected, the Chinese managed to destroy what started out as an absolutely superb historical Rom-Com. Season 3 lost ALL of its hilarity/humor and settled down into a depressing, angst-filled finale. The book officer shows up and tells her that she has to disappear for 'misfortune' to stop plaguing ML so she plays the noble idiot role, and we have to go through 3-4 episodes of him forgetting her and taking up with the former FL (the doctor). All I can say is that this interlude was thankfully short due to the short nature of the drama. To resolve this separation, the screenwriter has ML 'break the rules' by remembering her, and everything goes back to how it was prior to FL doing the noble idiot thing. Everybody remembers her again, and the doctor is no longer ML's love bug. Because ML broke the rules, book officer says that FL can now stay without having to confine herself to the cold palace...but no, in the final episode, she has to leave again because misfortune has still overtaken ML...even though the rules had supposedly been broken 5 episodes ago. What the heck?!

Ok, I get it. You've got to get FL back to reality because she can't remain conked out forever in front of her computer. I knew there was always going to be a problem with her staying in her imaginary world, but by golly, couldn't you have come up with a better way to resolve it? Ok, you have ML show up at the end as a real person in the real world, she signs his book and he just walks away?! AND SHE LETS HIM!!!!????? You can't say 'hey, let's go get a cup of coffee' or something? What kind of ending it that? It's not like she knows his name and can go find him later. If they'd just had had them getting together in real life then I wouldn't have given this drama such a low rating.

Take my advice - watch the first two seasons and forget about this one (except for maybe the first 1-2 episodes when MC finally get together). End the drama in your mind after season 2 and don't bother letting the writer end it for you because the ending was completely and totally unsatisfying. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. They need a season 4 to fix this awful ending.

UPDATE! Good news - or at least I hope it is - I saw that there's a Season 4 on WeTv. Hopefully, it will mend this awful ending!

Closure.

I watched both Season 1 and Season 2 and so, I had to watch Season 3. It was, perhaps, not as entertaining as the first two but I felt that it provided closure to this drama. Essentially, all three seasons make one whole drama and so, I’d recommend watching all three. :)

What I liked:
- Ending provided closure for the two leads.
- Happy ending for most characters.
- Ending showed the sadness of the FL as she had to be separated from the ML whom she loved deeply.
- Ending showed that true love will overcome obstacles and that true love doesn’t run smooth (?). ML’s memories to do with FL were erased as FL had to go back to the real world (and exit the reel world). But, he still had lingering memories of her. Eventually, he remembered…
- The leads loved each other truly.
- FL and ML still met in the real world.

What I didn’t like so much:
- Slightly repetitive in that there were quite a bit of recaps. (But understandable.)
- Ending was a bit slower and less fun / entertaining than the first two seasons. (But understandable too.)
- The ML had to die/ would die as long as she remained in the reel world.

Overall, still a nice enough watch and I liked the closure provided.

Season 3/5 The plot thickens...

And when the plot thickens, the things get to be too serious!
It was to be expected after two funny and fluffy seasons that some things will have to be sorted out sooner or later and those things are not fun to sort out. So this season was very light on humour and heavy in difficult decisions!

The emperor and our novelist are finally openly in love and being lovey dovey while the entourage is rolling their eyes at all the fluff. But very quickly things start changing for the worse: the conspiracy fromented by the Dowager Empress and the PM is getting into the high gear. At the same time things keep happening to the emperor which are unexpected: the plague (COVID? Anyone?), him getting sick and week more and more often. And the reason is the FL whose unexpected presence completely changed the storyline and the emperor is quietly fading. To save him she needs to disappear.

I liked this season as much as the other two and was not much bothered by the absence of humour. I wanted to see how they were going to wrap the story up. And, frankly they did a great job! The story is basically a search for the man of your dreams and how great it would be to meet him. Our FL got to do that!

I will be repeating myself, but everything is excellent in this drama: from writing, acting, production values, music. I love the music!

Cute

This series has thrown my rating system into disarray. Objectively, this is the hallmark movie of C-dramaland in that we get a story that's fast-paced, romantic, and watchable yet it has the depth of a puddle and a very linear story arc. Nothing special, still, it's exactly what is needed to cleanse the palate after watching a dense drama like Legend of Mi Yue (which I disliked).

Is it fair to rate it so high? Yes, because I'd like to send a message of support to the writers and production team so that they're encouraged to keep honing their skills and hopefully improve their outputs regarding quality, storytelling, and production values

Personally, this series (including seasons 1 and 2) are one of my two all time favourites ever! Some people probably don’t like it but I’m a romantic and found everything about it, stupendous! Sometimes I found other Chinese series too long, but these particular ones, I wanted them to go on and on and on - I am not complaining as I thought 6 minutes was great as it made the waiting that much more exciting to see what would happen next, but because I loved it so much, I wished each episode was 30 minutes longer. The main actors were absolutely amazing and I fell in love with them both, with their humour, their love for each other, their facial features etc., especially the emperor, whose emotional scenes made me so attached to him even more. Their crying scenes came from the heart and it touched me!! I cannot say enough about these two lead actors and I do hope desperately to see a whole lot more series and movies of theirs. I adored the eunuchs who were all hilarious! I think all the characters played their parts to perfection. I’ve watched all three seasons at least 10 times as a whole since it screened this year and I plan to continue watching it!! Well done to all!

Fine

This type of story already had watched . But still you will not feel bored by watching it . But as it was 5 minutes duration of drama so may be this irritate . First two parts were good ,this also good but not happy with the ending . Many scenes made me confused as I was very bad in remembering chinese name so who was talking about whom made me confused. Those who likes love story ,they can give a try to it . About acting ,every characters were good.
I like some parts of drama. I like the second season .

Ending part

Last part of the story where we get to see where it will end. Will it happy ending, which mean FL can grow old with ML & when she died she return to real life or sad ending where she need to leave....?

Btw I'm gonna wrote spoiler, a little big, if you don't wanna know just skip reading my review then.

In this part we see how lovely Yian Yi Yi (YY) life in the palace. How YY & Qin Yu (QY) begin their life as a couple. And also at the end we get a glimpse of what a life without YY in the picture. What do you mean, you ask...? Haha... This kinda big spoiler so I'm not gonna wrote here. If you want to know just watch it yourself, or just read the end of my review. Haha...

In this part finally we can also see what the effect & consequences for YY to stay in the story world, especially to QY. Really interesting we can see turn out when real person (YY) comes to story world, there're consequences for the character in the story world itself not only for the YY herself.

Overall this one good complete short story, where when you compile every part/season from 1 to 3 its only about 6 hour. Given take with 45 Min duration it's about 8 ep or 30 min duration it's about 12 ep. Lower the star cause I hate when MDL or the writer just separate the drama like this....

The spoiler!!!!! Read with your own risk:

What become questionable when the book officer just turn everything around in the end to make every character forget about YY & just erased her presence in the story. The question is: Why don't he just did that from the start...? Why must he let everything happen from the beginning... Haha... That's what I mean when I wrote we get a glimpse of what a life without YY in the picture.
