This is the story of a Japanese husband and his French wife who becomes pregnant. They move from France to Yokohama, Japan only to suffer his inability to land a job. Fortunately, there are some savings and a few possessions that can be sold for money, but poverty looms nonetheless. By the time he has a job the couple's daughter is six-years-old and the mother is suffering illness necessitating the husband taking his wife back to France leaving their daughter behind.
