SCIENCE NEVER LIES BUT HUMANS DO

Thailand never fails when it comes to Horror. Ghost lab is a simple story of two doctors trying to prove Ghosts exist. The visuals and horror scenes were scary :) THAI Horror is not just a genre, it's an emotion. There weren't many jumps scares but it was an epic thriller-horror and I enjoyed it so much. It was so nice seeing Nychaa, Ice Paris, and Tor together. The acting, cinematography, music, and direction were amazing. I loved it. The ending is so beautiful. The movie not only focuses on Ghosts but also on the human mind. The chemistry between Tor and Ice is raw and interesting. The movie is worth watching and I recommend it.

Deep Dive into the Human Mind and Obsession

First time reviewer here, but I especially felt compelled to write a review for Ghost Lab. I am extremely unfamiliar with Thai dramas and actors, but the acting (and the storyline) was phenomenal here.

Ghost Lab stars off very lighthearted and almost comical, but you quickly get the feeling that there’s something very wrong. As you ride along with the characters, you take a dive into the psyche of not only the main characters, but their families as well. Ghost Lab attempts the explore the limits of human emotion and obsession through exploring ghosts and the afterlife.

10/10 would recommend giving it a watch!

THIS IS SOOO WORTH THE SPOOKS!!!

Did I watch more than half the movie through my fingers? -Yes. Did I wet myself? -Probably. Is this movie worth all these troubles? -DEFINITELY!

I haven't watched a paranormal movie this good in a long while and I feel refreshed. But I have to admit, I stopped the movie at 1:02:10 and went to bed today morning at 4:28 am, or else I wouldn't have been able to sleep all night(dawn, maybe?) and then completed the movie right now at 11:42 am. Such a pup, am I not? Hehe.

The cinematography is so good, the acting is spot-on, neither too much nor too less. The actors did really well. Stepping out of dramas and doing a movie this good, you gotta be kidding me! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. And an alert: This shouldn't be viewed by children under 16, though they say 18 I think it's a PG 16. It will make you check under your bed for the boogeyman. I had shivers sent down my spine(and my thighs for some reason) during that laugh after that first contact. I thought the storyline was a bit meh~ before watching but now I remain silenced. The plot twist shook me to the core. I mean that was unexpected. Because P'Vee looked so convinced about the suicide, but his mom stopped him. Good for him, bad for you know who.

Them going loco for the experiment made me throw my phone, seriously. Everything was PURrrr~fect. Just the hallway part near the end when P'Vee was getting beaten up was a bit too... "green-screened", I mean it was too obvious to tell that it was a fake setup compared to the other green-screened scenes.

It is a solid 9.5/10 from me. GREAT MOVIE!!!

The queer coding is next level, I loved it.

Absolutely on point acting and next level psychological thriller like Forgotten.

Basically, you think you know what it's about, but you DON'T.

And God is it a tearjerker! I'm a mess rn!

From the moment he was trying to hurt and maim himself and said please come back, ffs it was obvious how desperate he was. And you can disagree with me but they were in a weird threesome with Mai, I mean "for the experiment " was basically code for 'I have feelings for you but I don't know how to deal with it ' since they were both pretty much using the 'ghost lab' as a way to cope with everything and to have a reason to be close to each other.

Just look at the minimal screen time the gf has, she's basically just conflict for their love.

Even that cutesy ass scene where Paris 'jokes' with Tor and basically gazes in his eyes whn theyre at the vending machine alone at night, and says something like Its The Power of Love P MO omfg so much content like this.

But that ending ah. Pure perfection.

I watched it from when Tor falls to the ground and ends up in the morgue and Paris comes alive in his dead body, it should have been gross, but it wasn't. I watched it five times already ㅠㅠ

It was just the most beautiful, poetic scene I've seen, kinda like that Untamed scene where Xue Yang does with Xiao Xinchens dead body, and it's not gross it's just really really sad.

Also, I might have finally lost it BUT WHY WAS GHOST PARIS SO DAMN SEXYYYY

Tor is one of my favorite Thai actors since he played as Phai in Hormones the Series (back in 2013). Seeing Tor and Ice acting in a film is one of many “featuring” that I've been waiting for. Especially seeing them with no longer wearing school or campus attributes. lol

With a different genre, this film immediately entered my watchlist since the teaser appeared a few months ago. So my expectations are also quite high for this film.

Even though in reality this film did not meet the expectations that I put at the beginning, still this film treats my longing for Thai horror.

how much are you willing to do to prove something?

trigger warning: rape, suicide
To be honest I had a totally different impression of how this movie was gonna be like after I watched the trailer, but I was wrong. This movie is indeed a movie about ghosts, but combine that with science and you get a totally different thing, not scary at all, for a moment you might even think you're actually learning something. I was actually invested in the project and everything but by the second half Wee was doing some questionable things to prove his experiment, honestly the movie lost me when he almost tried to r@p3 his friend's girlfriend to call his attention, I thought "oh, he's gonna pretend to kill her so that Gla can finally make his first appearance as a ghost and save her" but god, I was wrong. I'm actually really glad he didn't get to do something.
If I'm to mention something else, it's that I really enjoyed seeing Paris (Gla) and Tor (Wee) do these serious roles, I liked their acting a lot. And well, there's not much soundtrack to talk about but the sound effects were as good as they can get.
Do I recommend it? If you're into Medical dramas and love horror movies, this one might be for you. If not, then it'd be either triggering or annoying, so be careful before watching.

Better than I expected

This was more tragic than scary. The characters were a pleasant surprise from the begin to end. The acting was phenomenal which is a given. The cast really played their heart out. The story really takes a turn in a second half; it was suspenseful and heartbreaking all at once.

Do give this a try if you like a human emotion-driven horror with some jump scares. There was a lot more of a psychological element than I thought which kept the characters and story complex. What makes this “scary” is not anything in the supernatural sense but the characters’ road to self-destruction and obsession. It’s sad to see them have to sacrifice for their dreams in a way that hurts themselves and others.

The ending is a perfect and satisfying wrap up. That’s all I can say.

hella wild

my first impression of this was that there'll be a wholesome movie about two guys exploring the unknown. the more you delve deeper, it becomes an interesting view on how one can be intensely obsessed in uncovering inexplicable events and the afterlife.

this is not entirely an extraordinary movie but i like how we're left at the edge of our seats every minute. the thriller aspect was nicely done and blends well with how unpredictable the main characters were. with the unpredictability, there was a sense of humour that sparked because you ask yourself, "is he gonna do it??? lmaoo no way". i felt that sometimes the expressions of gla was a bit over-exaggerated but he definitely made up for it as the movie progressed.

overall, this was a fairly entertaining thriller that explores obsession and grief in a unique way.

Ghosts won't haunt you, the lab doctors will.

How much a person can be willing to sacrifice to get a closure or to prove a point??!!??

This movie exactly delves into the above question and makes you feel heartbroken at the end.
The protagonist's sacrifice and selfish intentions will make you question "Was it all really needed?"

Talking about the story, it started off really good but seemed a bit off towards the end... Atleast for me the ending should have been something satisfying rather than a tragedy.

The concept of the story was really good and I expected too much from it therefore a bit disappointed,
otherwise the acting, plot everything was great.

There were little jump-scares here and there (powerful ones though) and the story is not exactly that terrifying but the tragic lives of the leads will definitely give you nightmares due to sadness.

All in all a good attempt to entertain for almost 2 hours.
Lastly I really want to appreciate the actor who plays Dr. Wee in this.
He can pull off any look and character, be it a stud / hero kinda look or a nerdy scaredy cat look (like in this movie)... He justifies all his roles❤️

Hope you watch this lab story without ghosts around you! Hehe ;D

Nope.

Thought this movie had a fun premise, but it pretty much face dives off a cliff midway when one of the characters decides to kill himself for the sake of his experiment. See, I don't really think the movie justifies this. Not for two doctors who seem scientifically inclined. The doctor who kills himself is shown to have a pretty good life, however this little stint into the supernatural quickly convinces him that suicide is the only answer to move forward? I have a hard time buying that and don't think the suicide scene was earned at all. There's a sequence where one of the doctors' mother dies where he is thinking to himself "The human brain can go 3 minutes without oxygen" which is supposed to be set up for the audience to know that the movie is going to temporarily kill a character and resuscitate them (the movie actually does this at the end), but two supposed geniuses aren't smart enough to try this before resorting to the nuclear option? Just based on this, the two characters are ruined, coz if I can think about trying this, there's no way they couldn't have. This is even shown to be effective...

Now, after that mess of an occurrence, the movie follows the surviving doctor as he further gets consumed by the experiment, probably blaming himself for his dumbass partner's suicide as well. This genius also decides to kill himself which would render his partner's sacrifice moot, but gets saved by the ghost of his dead buddy. Lucky that that's how things work in this universe. So now you have this guy communicating with a ghost in the afterlife who's supposed to have the same goals as him, but that is not once realized in that final part of the movie. Basically, all the ghost uses him for is typing up loose ends caused by him spontaneously taking a bullet to the brain. Then the ghost's character flips and starts trying to murder him only to flip once again after choking him to death, to resuscitate him. So, maybe I missed the motivations completely and perhaps there's some afterlife fuckery going on which makes ghosts act differently, but I really don't see a compelling throughline here. I'm assuming the message the ghost wants to put across is to not let your life be consumed by something to that extent, which I couldn't take seriously enough given who the message was coming from (both, this movie and the dead doctor). If he really did only want what's best for his friend, maybe he shouldn't have possessed his corpse, bent his leg in four different ways and thrown him down a stairwell (lucky he didn't die there. That chandelier looked like it was supposed to land on him).

Besides this, I still take some issue with this movie's approach to ghosts being that easy to find. I mean, easy enough to just assume "this is how it must work" and then that is how it works, for every hypothesis. It's a pretty juvenile premise, but I guess I can grant it that for the sake of the underlying story. Too bad, I didn't really find much worth in that story. What I think is missing here, is the factor that changes the dead doctor's motivations post suicide, which the story wants to assert is that he deeply regrets killing himself and doesn't want his friend to see the same end. You want me to believe that his drive to further his experiment was strong enough to prompt suicide but not strong enough to actually help further that experiment coz of the regret of leaving behind his family and loved ones? Yeah, there's some missing character development at some point in here that just disconnects me from these characters.

"Every day we live is like science experiment. We set hypotheses and our expectations. We try to control the variables. Some are controllable. Some aren't" says the main character, as he does exactly none of the things he is talking about while conducting his own research and experiment. No hypothesis, no control over variables (which weren't even named). They didn't even define what they are researching - ghosts.

For someone who does not know anything about scientific methods, this would be a really good horror thriller focused on the dark side of humans and their desires, fears and obsessions, with the use of supernatural elements. It was well produced, the set design, costumes and the design for the ghost were truly nice and well prepared.

For anyone who knows a bit about scientific methods... it would be frustratingly dumb and unrealistic, and not because of the ghost and supernatural elements. Here's the thing: you cannot make the main characters people of science (I would call a person who finished medical school one) while making them conduct research as well planned and executed as flat earthers do. Writers should have either made the research more realistic (especially at the beginning, were Wee was not that obsessed and emotionally attached to it - hence he should have been more objective) or made main characters normal people who did not have much to do with science in the first place - then the poorly conducted experiments would make sense.

It was like watching people fight for who is going to get Darwin Award first - both deserve it equally. Since I was frustrated with the set up and the massively flawed and senseless research at the beginning, it was hard for me to connect to the characters and actually care about what will happen to them and how the movie would end.

Overall, if you either: don't know much about scientific method of research or are able to ignore that part of the plot and not put much value to it, you will most likely like it or even love it. Sadly for me, poorly done science done by people, who should know better, frustrates me to the core.

Netflix’s Silly Experiment

Synopsis: After witnessing a haunting in their hospital, two doctors become dangerously obsessed with obtaining scientific proof that ghosts exist.

'Ghost Lab,' wastes intriguing ideas for cheap scares. Not without its moments of horror and suspense - and, surprisingly, heart pounding melodrama, but the movie fails to effectively convey promise of its story. The premise is captivating, but the execution and overall story leave much to be desired.

VERDICT _ SKIP IT !!!The movie is very boring. The acting is hard like rock - predictable and cheap cinematography.
