the both movies has a similar concept of horror thriller and supernatural entities. It's set in Thailand but produced and written by a South Korean team. It's also a supernatural horror/thriller centred around local superstitions with a plot that slowly unravels and keeps you guessing.

Different genre, but the setting is really similar and also the way they portray nature and Thai village lifestyle through beautifully well done shots. Furthermore, Buddhism is an important piece in both stories, it reflects about spirits and the next life.

Although Malila has creepy elements which could be categorized as horror, it is above all a dark and contemplative film.

Both horror films go around a possession case set in a village/rural area, either from Thailand or South Korea. As The Medium's producer, Na Hong Jin's work constitutes a big force of influence, making it obvious its resemblance with The Wailing.

- both are in found footage/mockumentary style
- both are about a religious community with shamans
- death of relatives

they are different in plots but terrifying in a similar way
