It was all I ever wanted from a romance plot
I'm not a big fan of C drama or K drama. I have watched only a few of them during my 6years of following TV shows. So, I almost don't know any Korean or Chinese actors/actresses by name. I'm telling this to make it clear I didn't like “Hidden Love” this much because I'm a fangirl of the cast members or whatever (as some people may assume).I watched this 2 months ago on my 18th birthday completely by accident. I wanted to cheer myself up on this so called “big day”, and it was recommended on some app, so I started watching it with the expectation of a very ordinary romantic series which is fun for one day or two, and will be forgotten the next week with lots of cliché. HOWEVER, I can tell without a doubt it was one my best experience of watching a series or a movie. It was all I ever wanted from a romance plot. This series is literally a proof that a romance can be engaging and lovable without any stupid unnecessary drama which are only in the story to waste time because the writers don’t have any better ideas. It was pure joy for me.
The plot is pretty simple and not new, but the way it is processed, is absolutely a breath of fresh air.
Although including some cliché, the series broke a lot of norms in romance plots and can be called subversive; The story didn’t include a love triangle; It didn’t have an evil character who would destroy the main leads’ relationship; It didn’t have a bad boy ML who is arrogant about other people’s feelings and depressed and half naked all the time. It didn’t break up the main couple over stupid BS which are unrealistic as hell; It didn’t have unnecessary filler plot only to kill time and have more episodes.
We have a teenage girl, SANGZHI, who’s got a crush on his brother’s friend; she makes every excuse to be around this young man. She does some very stupid things like going to another city all by herself with made up excuse to see him, but at the end she is very realistic about the fact that she can’t be with him and keeps all of her feelings to herself for years (such a big burden for a girl at that age) and moves on which shows her growth despite how hard it can be. When she is actually close to her dream, she acts very mature and careful. quite Opposite from some other female leads, she understands that the male lead can’t be at her service 24/7 (referring to episode 16); instead of nagging or breaking up, she asks about his feelings, make sure if he’s ok, and tries to make him happy and secure.
And there’s our male lead, JIAXU (definitely my new fictional crush lol), who has gone through the worst; He was shammed by everyone for his father’s action; He had to watch his mother slowly dying; He was forced to pay debts at a very young age; but this didn’t turn him to an asshole/bad boy. Instead, it made him more responsible. He is very respectful; He cares about people; He loves to help others. When he becomes sure of his feelings about SANGZHI, He doesn’t hesitate to confess his love for her. And we can’t talk about him without mentioning his flirting ability. It is in another level. Never seen a character being this flirty and respectful at the same time. I know it’s a little cringe, but I want to gush over his appearance for hours. I mean just look at him (SANZHI, sister, you had every right to have a crush on him). His physical look really blesses the eye.
And I adored ML’s performance. His eyes are very expressive. He is surely talented, so is SANGZHI’s actress.
SANZHI and JIAXU as a couple, are definitely one of the best in all kinds of medium I have seen. Their chemistry is out of this world, thanks to the main leads’ acting. The way JIAXU’s actor plays with his eyes and looks at SANGZHI is just amazing (made me want to pause the series and just look at his eyes for minutes). The way they position their bodies shows a deep intimacy and very natural affection. These two will give you gallons butterflies every episode.
Everything about this show, from plot simplicity to actors’ performances and chemistries, really made my 2023 summer. I will remember the time I spent watching it as a memorable birthday “gift”. I will definitely come back to it every once in a while.
P.S. sorry for the bad English. It’s not my first language.

The cutest slipper commercial in the universe!
The biggest problem with this drama is that the part I wanted to watch starts only at episode 8~. Until then there were quite a few uncomfortable moments, due to some really weird casting and cinematographic choices. The young FL is supposed to be a 14 year old, but the actress playing her is like a second grader in elementary school, her interactions with ML were nothing bad in terms of plot and script, but the suggestive lighting & framing is really really weird at times. (I had a hard time getting past this part tbh)Every romance drama has some flair & flavor to give a little contrast to all the sugar. This one has very few scenes outside of the leads' personal world, but what little there is, tends to be rather boring, or just plain bad. (concerns of ML's parents, ML's family things, ML's stalker, stalker's boss friend, workplace things)
Another minor gripe I have with the drama is how much FL is treated like a teenage princess in her relationship. This seems to be a recurring theme in cdrama roms these days, but I'm just not a fan.
---
So why is it still 8/10?
Well, we watch romantic comedies for the actual romance and that is really absolutely out of this world good in this one. The chemistry, the visuals, the mood, the acting, the red ears, well really everything pertaining to romance (well other than the princess thing) is 10/10 awesome. I always understood why Lusi is touted by many as THE romcom queen, but personally I did not like a single one of her dramas due to various reasons. I feel she is far better in this one than in anything else before & there is some real acting chops here, beyond just being a top of the line comedienne. (and ML of course is the perfect partner)
I too found the brother-sister relationship very amusing & wholesome, but I don't think it's possible to have such a brother in real life. :-) (I'm talking about FL's real blood related brother here of course.)

ONE OF THE MOST REWATCHED DRAMA IN MY LIFE till now(DON'T MIND THE HATERS )
Everything about this drama is perfect except it should have been 30 episodes longthis is adapted from my fav comfort novel which I have re read numerous time
the drama made some changes which I am not mad about as things which work In novel areas doesn’t mean will work in dramas
Zhao lusi and Chen zheyuan NAILED IT!
like do you understand the plot the dilogues the scenes are what I have read already about bazillion times but still I rewatched this drama for 5 times
do you realize just how insane the chemistry of the actors and the characters need to be to make someone like me who never rewatches any drama to make me watch it this many times
I am so glad Secretly Secretly But Unable To Hide it came alive as Hidden Love
it's been almost a month but I am still unable to move on from it
It's like HL casted a spell on me?
I am surprised how some people were quick to come in conclusion about HL with 3-4 epis like why is the need of drama to be of more than 10 epis when people like them are ready to conclude what a drama is going to be about without watching the entire drama but their conclusion was opposit of what the drama or character were about so you could easily say a hate campaign on HL is going on
Don't mind the haters apparently they are fans of rival actress of Zhao Lusi so they are here to complain about the drama so that the ratings will drop
People here who think this drama is controversial must have never seen a couple with age gap
Both the characters had an age gap of 5 years but really is that the problem? He never forced her to accept his intentions towards her, he respected her,They both helped each other during difficult times of each other,He loved her dearly , and over all had A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP
People here be complaining about one thing that they met early? but so what The male lead never had any romance feelings for FL and treated her like a sister of a friend and when ever male lead met FL he informed her brother about it or it was always in the presence of her family
So i don't understand what was in this drama for haters to judge it mindlessly
Like there are so many couples with an age gap just because you don't prefer someone older than you as your partner then that doesn't give you the right to mark couple with an age gap into your p category that's just being hella partial and disrespectful
I am pretty sure people here complaining about the age gap must be bunch of kids who see their friends being in relationship with their age group people
If i want i can argue with all these haters with facts but them i would be giving them more attention and waste my time
DON'T MIND THE HATERS THE DRAMA IS A BOP!

Loved it
I wish I could say this was overrated, but it's actually not. In the age of open relationships and "situationships", it was really refreshing to see such a pure love story. The opening kind of gave me a heart attack, though. The actress playing her actually looked about 10, though they said she was 14 at that time. And they should have cast a younger ML as well. The child with him was very uncomfortable to watch, considering the end. I'm happy the actual story started when she was in university; otherwise, he would really be a pedo. I like Sang Zhi's character. She knows what she wants and works towards it. When she started liking him, it was puppy love. He was kind of a hero figure to her. He was the brother she wanted. When she heard him getting a girlfriend and kind of confirmed it, I think that's when she understood how much she actually liked him. But I was really happy to see how maturely she handled the situation. She knows he is taken, so she starts focusing on herself and lets him go. I think this is the right approach. Otherwise, it would be very disrespectful to his girlfriend. Even when they meet later, she keeps her distance. But whenever he needs anyone, she is there. And though not romantic, he also liked her more than a friend's sister. But it turned into a romantic one when she took care of him in the hospital. And during the phone call, when he understood he liked her and she probably liked him back, he wasted no time. I am actually a little surprised at how easily he accepted the fact that he liked someone he had seen growing up. I thought he would be more reluctant, given his friendship with her brother. But as long as they are both consenting adults, I actually have no problem with this type of relationship. Even when she was younger, she was so attuned to him. She knew when he was sad just by looking at him. And I loved how his gifts were not flashy but personal. I liked how her family was so protective of her. Yes, parents should be concerned. Especially if he is older than her by 5 years. They communicated instead of beating around the bush. And their concern was not baseless. If they had met the stalker girl, they would have never approved. But he proved with his actions that he is serious, which every parent wants. I love how they put effort into their long-distance relationship; it's important.Mainly, I loved how pure their love was. They trust each other wholeheartedly, as they should. I just know they will be the couple who will still be in love in their 80s. Honestly, I loved the show. Such a fresh breath of air. If you can handle the first 7 episodes, which are about her in school, the rest is worth it, trust me. Going in my comfort watch. This was a story of her coming of age and his forgiving himself for things he had no hand in. He was a closed book, she made him open up. They both helped each other grow up and become the people they are today. I will miss them.

Perfectly Sweet, and perfectly performed
This was the second Zhao Lu Si drama I've watched. The first I had enjoyed, Dating in the Kitchen, but this one I simply LOVED. It definitely didn't hurt that, to quote Zoolander, she is a really, really, really ridiculously good-looking (especially her stunning smile), but what what stunned me in this Drama was her acting. She was so very, very good at her job, which was to make it look like she wasn't acting. She nailed it.Another major reason why I gave this 10 was because there was none of the toxic misogyny of recent contemporary and youth C Dramas. No ice cold tsundere ML who knows everything and is freakishly good at everything and bullies or gaslights (or both), the FL into worshipping him. The dialogue given to both leads was refreshingly real, and Chen Zhe Yuan's Jia Xu was a likeable lead. His character got better and better as the Drama went on, leading up to oh so sweet ending, and Chen delivered a fine performance. Zhao's Sang Zhi got the best lines though, her sweet but firm self-conviction was great to see and the exchange with the very troubled Jiang Ying was outstandnig.

"Hidden Love: A Heartwarming Evolution of Innocent Crush to Everlasting Love"
Hidden Love, a masterfully executed drama, fearlessly explores the complex themes of unrequited love and age difference, delicately avoiding any potential for discomfort or unease. The series deftly captures the essence of a young girl's infatuation and takes audiences on a captivating journey as it evolves into a passionate, enduring love between the lead characters. The chemistry between DJX and SZ is nothing short of electric, igniting the screen with their palpable connection. From DJX's charming yet teasing remark, "You are not my girlfriend yet," to the heartwarming kitchen scene, viewers will undoubtedly find themselves enamored with SZ's transformation from a timid teenager to a courageous woman who unconditionally stands up for her man and their love.
The aesthetic choices throughout the drama evoke a sense of refreshing tranquility akin to a gentle summer breeze, punctuated by moments of conflict and introspection that add depth to the narrative.
An additional source of enjoyment lies in the endearing love-hate dynamic between Sang Zhi and her brother, Sang Yan. Whether it's the exasperation Sang Yan experiences while tutoring her or their playful banter, the on-screen chemistry between the two siblings is a delight to behold. Not to be missed are the scenes where Sang Yan fearlessly confronts SZ's bullies, transforming from a comical brother figure into a fiercely protective guardian.

Hidden Love has undoubtedly secured its place as one of the standout dramas of the year, earning a spot on many viewers' re-watch lists. It skillfully blends elements of romance and comedy, intertwined with moments of conflict resolution, resulting in a truly engaging viewing experience.
For those who have fallen under the spell of Chen Zhe Yuan's acting prowess, exploring his other works such as "Mr. Bad" and "Our Secret" is highly recommended.

Hidden love review
I honestly loved this show so much, in just 25 episodes this show managed to become my favorite show of all time. Before watching it I thought the description sounded cute and it was new so I decided to give it a go. It was quite tiresome waiting for all the episodes to come out on Netflix but every week I waited and it was so worth it because the storyline was cute, the acting was amazing, and the chemistry between Zhao Lusi and Chen Zheyuan was blooming. It was so amazing and the casting was perfect. I can’t think of any flaws this show had.Was this review helpful to you?
A Simple Life is Enough
This was a very comfortable show to watch when your own life is hectic. It had such comforting characters and relationships, with conflict that makes sense. It's a perfect example of, you can tell a simple story that's realistic and it's still entertaining and engrossing. A story does not need overly inflated and toxic drama to be entertaining.I loved and empathized with every character, and even though it was a little slow at first, it quickly found its pacing and was enjoyable the rest of the way through.

Heartwarming Love Drama
Hidden Love is a captivating drama that takes viewers on a journey through the stages of love, showcasing the growth and evolution of its characters. From the charming performances to the heartwarming storyline, this drama is bound to leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling.
One of the standout elements of Hidden Love is the exceptional talent of the child actress portraying the female lead. Despite a slight age gap, her portrayal of the character's childhood phase was endearing and believable, capturing the innocence and charm of young love. While some viewers may have preferred a slightly older actress for the adult role, it did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the drama.
The bickering relationship between the brother and sister in the teenage part of the drama was a delightful addition. It added a layer of fun and humor, making those scenes enjoyable and entertaining to watch. The interactions between the siblings were refreshing and added a lighthearted touch to the story.
As the drama progresses into the university phase, viewers are treated to a mesmerizing display of ageless romance. The chemistry between the leads is palpable, and the slow-paced development of their relationship keeps audiences engaged and invested. The steamy kisses and romantic gestures from the male lead were unexpected but greatly appreciated, adding a touch of passion and intensity to the story.
One aspect that stands out in Hidden Love is the female lead's perceptiveness regarding the male lead's hard work to provide for their future. Her appreciation of his efforts highlights a mature and understanding relationship, further deepening the connection between the characters. The drama's emphasis on love, understanding, and family bonding creates a relatable and heartwarming experience for viewers.
Moreover, the male lead's determination to become worthy of the female lead for marriage adds a realistic and relatable aspect to the story. It showcases the growth and development of the characters, highlighting their dedication and commitment to one another.
In conclusion, Hidden Love is a remarkable drama that successfully captures the different stages of love, from innocent childhood to passionate romance. With its charming performances, delightful humor, and realistic portrayals, this drama is a must-watch for those seeking a heartwarming and engaging storyline. Each character contributes to the overall beauty of the narrative, leaving viewers captivated until the very end.

A wholesome drama to make your heart flutter
Cute, this cdrama is utterly adorable and there's no other way to describe it. Normally I don't gravitate towards contemporary cdramas, I'm a historical/Xinxia girl, but I will watch almost anything with Zhao Lusi in it so I decided to give this one a go. And I'm really glad I did, I loved it so much.Story:
So this drama follows Sang Zhi starting from middle school and going into college, all revolving around her relationship with her older brothers best friend Duan Jiaxu. Personally, my least favourite part was when she was a minor. I wish it'd started with her in college and shown brief flashbacks to them meeting when she was a kid because though the age gap isn't massive and the relationship only begins when she is an adult, it's kind of weird to start a romance show with the fl being a middle schooler and the ml being in college. This is the only thing I don't particularly like about the show, idk I just don't really care for the teenager crushing on the adult trope. I love their romance and I ship them so much but I just wish they'd changed that. So that's why it gets a 9.5 instead of a 10. But besides that, I absolutely adore this show. Sang Zhi is such a fun, sweet protagonist and I love her relationship with her brother. Also as a Love like the Galaxy watcher, seeing the mom again but as a good parent this time was so lovely. As for the romance, it is so sweet and healthy. Coming off a drama where the Ml repeatedly betrayed and hurt the fl, I was in need of a Ml like Jiaxu. He is responsible, he is respectful, he is protective, he is the perfect boyfriend. His only problem is he needs to have some self respect, why he wasn't filing a restraining order against Jiang Ying was baffling. After I paid that debt and told her to leave me alone but she didn't, I would have made sure she couldn't be closer than fifty feet to me or my loved ones for the rest of my life.
I know they'll be making a drama about Sang Yan and unfortunately it seems they won't be casting Victor Ma so I don't know if I'll be watching or not because this version of Sang Yan is the best one so I can't imagine another person playing him. Speaking of actors, they all did phenomenally. As I said before, I will watch almost anything with Zhao Lusi in it so I'm very aware of how incredible of an actress she is. This drama was no different, she did amazingly. Chen Zhen Yuan also did a very good job, this was my first drama of his and I was very impressed. As for the side characters, I wish we'd seen more of Wang Wang, especially about her relationship with the athlete. After the confession, what happened? Are they dating? Did he say no?
Overall I really enjoyed this drama and I think it's really good for any beginners or people who love romance dramas. I'm really happy I watched it and I hope you will watch it too

Not fluffy as it's seems *hidden gem*
I start this show just for fun it was like I'll watch ep or two but it's really really goodThe one thing that kept bothering me that the young actress was toooo young to convince me that she is in love..
The FL luci wad really good at acting she made me cry laugh feel frustrated all those emotions at same time
The ML was good at acting and as you keep watching his portray as cool not cold person will make sense his background and struggles
The older brother was so funny caring annoying typical brother_sis relationship
The reason I gave the story low rate that I kept worrying about the young child.and the story itself isn't a new one
But it was the most realistic
*Spoiler*
The scene at airport was really heartbreaking anyone who had been in one side love will have felt her pain

Read if you want to know what MAGIC awaits you
I loved this drama that I had to drop all my thoughts about it out into the world T-T My love for this cannot be HIDDEN >-<I don’t think I have any dramas rated as a 10, but this was such a gem after a long time that I had to bump it from 9.5 into 10!
Everything was perfect for a nice rom-com. They didn’t spend too much time on the innocent youth part so they got to develop the sizzling chemistry. NGL FL’s voice was super annoying as a teenager. She tried to make herself seem young, but I can’t imagine a teenager acting that meek and naive. Luckily we got our normal Lusi by ep 13. No conflict lasted long. They respected each other’s wishes and worked to make each other their priority. The way he asked her permission to “woo” her was absolutely adorable! He also clearly started the relationship by explaining his life and the problems he is facing. They communicated as a couple. The way she empathized before knowing his backstory and even more so after he told her.
Her bro is such a real bro that the writer had to have modeled him after someone. He was always bullying but with all the love in the world and is her most fiercest protector.
The way the parents were protective of her is completely understandable and weary of her being with ML. They showed she grew up like a princess in their eyes.
There were no backstabbing friends (at least after middle school) unlike other cdramas. Even that friend that liked the guy that liked FL. They were all so supportive and loving.
The acting was spot on by every single actor! The way Lusi cries is so real. She had me in tears with her. ML’s cries were like all the IRL dudes I know. Trying to keep it in and wiping tears in secret and when it’s really emotional, letting out in the most heartbreaking whimpers.
None of the bad clichés. It was refreshing to not have the last minute break ups, the stupid accidents and crazy second leads.
They were truly adorable together. Relationship goals. No joke. They were cute and hot…sometimes all at the same time…when together. The marriage proposal was so cute too. I totally fell for it and thought her friend was going to get engaged.
