LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!

HL has become my favourite top 1 drama where I smiled like a fool, laughed till my stomach hurts, and even cried. There weren’t a dull moment and I wouldn’t change anything as the storyline, cast members and OST are perfect the way I like them to be. The dynamics between all of the casts was also something worth mentioning. The chemistry between ZLS and CZY was amazing! Both of them were able to portray their roles very well.

TBH It’s been a while where I find myself obsessed over a drama (in a good way)! I would repeat the trailers, finding more BTS videos, and rewatching some of the scenes while waiting for a new episode to be released. I usually don’t rewatch most of the dramas but this I’ll definitely rewatch it soon!

Feeling conflicted

It was very much a wholesome slice of life/coming of age show driven by characters and not plot. It was a bit slow and dragging at times. The way they handled the age gap thing made me uncomfortable for 90% of it. I thought her being in high school went on for way too long and they got too close for my liking. I would have been much more comfortable with their relationship had he simply been her tutor, not paying much attention to her outside of that and her having a very simple one sided crush on him instead of this brother sister relationship they developed. And also if the timeskip was longer than just 2 years and they had pretty much forgotten about each other until they meet again by coincidence and then fall in love. There‘s just not enough of a difference in maturity between 16 and 18. Everything was the same as it was before and adding to that, she was not a very mature 16-18 year old either.
I also don’t like how quickly DJ accepted not only that he is in love with her but also made the choice to pursue her. I was hoping he‘d be more conflicted and ponder it for longer. I was totally with the brother and thought his initial reaction was very much warranted, but was then disappointed to see him pretty much accept it right away after punching DJ a few times.
It‘s unfortunate bc I liked both actors and characters individually, their chemistry was actually very good too and they had some really sweet moments towards the end. But I was on the fence about them throughout the whole drama.
Overall, it was enjoyable but too many major issues to rate it too highly.

Tbh, I'm a fan of cheesy romcoms and this one had all the tropes I usually like from this genre, but I don't think it was as good as people out it to be?

Briefly, let me explain.
I understand how the first few episodes she views him the eyes of adoration, but his flirtatious nature was already present from the very beginning and that was really off putting to me. I know some people can have flirtatious personalities, just like he does, but to act like that towards your best friend's sister who is 5 years younger than you? When she's still a minor? Nah I'm sorry but that really threw me off. I'm not screaming pedophelia like some other people here but I still found it a bit weird.
With that being said, they really did have good chemistry. The later episodes were so sweet and they were adorable. Nothing I would say was mind-blowing, but compared to other C-dramas it was pretty good. Their acting wasn't bad, they managed to make scenes which could've been extremely cringy feel fairly natural, I was surprised. But with that being said there were still times where it felt forced. I don't blame the actors per se, more so the script itself felt unnatural. It is fiction, but it felt like a fan novel come to life at times, especially in the dialogue. That made it difficult for the actors to act convincingly 100% of the time. It would go back and forth with natural and non-natural.
Plot wise, nothing special. It's been done before, it's nothing new, they didn't add anything new to it. It made it easier to watch, yes, but I honestly had to skip through some scenes cause nothing really grasped my attention. I gave it a high rewatch value due to it fitting as a comfort show, and the music was nice.

Overall, it was a cute watch. Nothing I would say is special but I understand why people like it. It's easy to watch, they chemistry is nice, and they actors are attractive. But besides that nothing in it made it the masterpiece that some people make it out to be. We all have different opinions, so if you enjoyed it to that extent, I'm happy for you, can't relate though lmao

watch it, you won’t regret it !!!

This has to be one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched. The actors did such a great job portraying their roles. I’m one of those people who don’t mind clichés, but sometimes I just need something “new” and different, you know ? Well, Hidden Love didn’t disappoint. The plot is unique, so bonus points for that. Just a heads-up for those who don’t like the age-gap trope : the ML was 19 when he first met the FL, who was 14 at the time, but it’s important to note that they DID NOT have any sexual/romantic interactions until much later in the show. The FL was of legal age when the ML started developing feelings for her. Personally, it didn’t bother me much, but I get why some people might find it icky.

Now I’d like to talk about the main characters a bit.

Sang Zhi (FL) : She’s childish at the beginning of the show, but I promise it’ll get better (they skip 2 years foward to when she’s 19 in 8 ep, so dw). She’s quite shy and introverted, which isn’t much of a problem, not every fl has to be badass or wtv, but even after she gets with the ml, she has issues with intimacy and i’m not even talking about sex, just simple things like kissing. I found that a little annoying, because Imagine getting the man of your dreams, who’s not only hot af, but also respectful and considerate and not wanting to kiss him. Even when she did it, it felt kinda forced, like girl, kiss him like you mean it ? Aside from that, I liked her character and the way she stood up for others and herself.


Jia Xu (ML) : He’s the most considerate ML I’ve ever seen in a drama, he literally pays attention to her every little move. He’s too good of a man to be realistic tbh. Their relationship is healthy, no unnecessary fights or arguments, just pure love. He’s like a fatherly figure to Sang Zhi, but not like in a weird way, it’s just the way he cares for her so much and always puts her first.


Overall, I loved this drama and I’ll never stop recommending it :)

one of my best and favorit chinese drama

Hidden love, one of the best Chinese dramas I have ever watched, the story is light and sweet, the chemistry of the actors is very good, especially Zhao Lusi and Chen Zhe Yuan, the plot is also very good, easy to follow, there are no bad characters, and there are many good examples, such as how warm and loving family relationships can shape a person's character to be good, full of attention and affection, friendship, hard work, everything is good, I have watched Hidden Love 12 times and am not bored at all, because their acting looks real, I really like this drama, this drama brings a lot of happiness to me, thank you to the writer, screenwriter, director and actors and actresses as well as all those who have made this drama a good drama, many people underestimate this drama, but it turns out this drama got so much support. Simple but amazing

Modern Cdramas are either hit or miss especially romcoms as they tend to be cheesy and cringey. This is a bit of unexpected surprise. It is simple but executed and told well. The chemistry between Zhao Lusi and Chen ZheYuan is so natural and organic. Their brought their A+ game.
Although the first 6 episodes is somewhat slow but it does pick up after and their story becomes magical. When Sang Zhi meets DJX again in his city where she attends university, SZ secret love is no mote, it’s out in the open for DJX to uncover.

A Heart-Warming Romance Story

The theme of the drama, the soundtracks, the chemistry between Zhao Lusi and Chen Zhe Yuan were perfect. It'd be nice to see these couple in a drama again.

The bond of brotherhood between San Yan and San Qi was so beautifully created that I couldn't help but be jealous. I think sibling relationships are always the same no matter where in the world they are, and the series handled it very well.

The love between Duan Juaxu and Sang Zhi is truly enviable. Even I had butterflies in my heart while watching the series. I'm afraid to give spoilers if I write something more about this gorgeous couple. LOL.

If you want to watch a kind, heart-warming, a little fun, romance youth series, you should definitely watch it. You won't regret it.

THE BEST C-DRAMA I EVER WATCHED

I hadn't watched Chinese Dramas for so long (binge-watched S. Korean ones) but when I came across this drama (and its ratings), I decided to make a comeback to C-Dramas. I must say that that's the best decision I ever made till now because "Hidden Love" totally changed my perspective of C-Dramas (previously, I thought they were good but cringe). This drama genuinely captivated me from start to finish. However, as much as I adored it, there were a couple of elements because of which I gave it a 9.5 and not a perfect 10. But I'll write about that in the end of my review. Let me first tell you what actually made this drama so so so good!

So, what truly made this drama shine was the exceptional acting. The main lead actors Chen Zheyuan & Zhao Lusi took their characters to a whole new level of depth and authenticity. It was as if they breathed life into the screen, making each moment truly memorable. The ML's (Duan Jiaxu's) eye expressions were to die for! The FL's acting was phenomenal too. The supporting characters also did a great job & that's why I gave the acting part of this drama a 10/10.

One of the aspects that made this drama stand out was its ability to create an immersive and heartwarming atmosphere. It felt like a warm embrace to me. This is where the drama truly excelled, portraying the delicate intricacies of relationships, friendships & emotions. I loved the bond between FL (Sang Zhi) & her brother Sang Yan.

Now, let's come to the couple of areas where the drama fell just shy of perfection (in my opinion). Firstly, the supporting characters (Sang Yan, Wang Ruolan & Jiang Ming) didn't receive as much screen time as I would have liked. While the main leads shone brightly, I wanted to delve deeper into the lives, thoughts, and emotions of the supporting cast. Providing them some more screentime could have added an extra layer of richness to the drama.

The second point that I found kind of strange was the sudden change of the ML's feelings for the FL. The ML admitted his feelings for the FL out of nowhere & it felt so abrupt that I couldn't help but notice it. While the chemistry between them was incredible & undeniable, I wished to witness the different stages of his emotional transformation more vividly – from initial denial and hesitation to eventual acceptance and determination. A more gradual progression would have made his character's growth of feelings even more compelling.

*Edit : Another thing which I was concerned about while watching this drama was that they chose such a young girl for playing the role of 14 years old Sang Zhi. Since there is a 5 years age gap between ML & FL, they should've chosen a girl who actually looked 14 instead of 8 so that viewers won't feel disturbed. Just remembered this point & wanted to add it but otherwise it's alright. Kindly continue reading the rest of my review below.

In conclusion, despite these minor setbacks, this drama remains a beautiful and emotionally resonant experience & it's far by the best C-Drama I watched. It enveloped me in a world of genuine warmth and heartfelt moments. The exceptional acting and the portrayal of intricate human relationships make it a must-watch. While it might not have been a flawless 10/10 for me, it certainly left a lasting impression on me ❤️.
